Whatever happened to the Sovereign of the Seas?

Recommended Posts

Actually... there were two Crown and Anchors on the Sovereign. One Port, One Starboard. One is on the Oasis and one is on the Allure. And I actually found out about it when they were added to the ships -- I know someone on the construction team. There are two more in storage. But, yes, Captain Johnny does tell the story!!!

Wow! I'll be sure to take a picture when I am on the Allure in May :-)

Hi,

I cruised aboard the Sovereign of the Seas in the summer of 1988 (when the ship was only six months old). Back then, the Sovereign was doing seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises. The ship was a true trendsetter and the first ship with a large atrium, glass elevators, etc. In the late 1980's the Sovereign was in a class by herself (similar to the Oasis / Allure today). In 1995, I did another seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Sovereign. This was an interesting itinerary because it included both CocoCay and Labadee. I have many wonderful memories of this ship.

Was also my first cruise but not as a passenger. I got a job as a bus boy and lasted two days before deciding the working conditions were not for me. Never got to see her public areas other than the restaurant. I need the model ship from her to complete my collection :)

This is Sovereign in December 2013 as we pulled in to Salvador De Bahia, Brazil on Splendour of the Seas:)

Unfortunately we never got to sail on Sovereign in Royal colours.

I was fortunate to sail on the Sovereign twice in the late 80's. I am pretty sure I saw it October 2012 when we boarded a transatlantic on the Liberty out of Barcelona. What a nice memory I had of that ship and happy the Majesty is still cruising. I'm on that one tomorrow, Monday.
