Nassau safety

I was wondering about getting off the ship in Nassau & how safe it is?

Very safe, taxis to Atlantis run about 4.00 each way. water taxi about 3.00 each way, short walk to the straw market. happy cruising

As in any unfamiliar area you need to be aware of your surroundings. There's plenty of crime in. Nassau. Use common sense and you should be fine.

I'm 59, and 3 yrs ago, my moped ran out of gas and my son kept driving. I was stranded for 2 hrs...the locals could not have been nicer. One let me stand in his garage for snow hour! Several stopped and offered help.

 

I take the local bus to the Sheraton all the time....me and the locals! Great people!

Basically, Nassau is safe. Staying in high traffic areas and not wandering around at night is a good idea.

OP, some posters adbvise against going out at night but two weeks ago I saw plenty getting off the ship in the evening. Just be aware of your surroundings as you would anywhere at night.

I bet you have neighborhoods in RI that are more dangerous than the tourist areas of Nassau. Anyplace can have crimes, so don't get all 'touristy/stupid" wherever you are!!!

This is actually a good warning which all should consider.

Even "Scubagirrl" who is a resident and always so helpful on this board and someone I totally trust & respect tells us to stay in well policed areas.

Too funny, auto correct ! When it snows in Nassau, that's when I'll look for a new itinerary!

Our friends told us when they took a taxi back to the ship in Nassau and they was a large baseball bat wedged near the gearstick. They didnt dare ask about it.
