Ship Casino Gambling - any big winners

I did a few searches here on HAL and google but did not come up with much on the question of can there be and have there been big winners on a cruise ship casino?

 

I have read that the odds are all tough compared to regular large land casinos?

 

When I mean big winner I mean enough at least to pay for your cruise!

I wouldn't announce it either.. We have two Friends who have won big though & just put their winnings it in their cabin safe & didn't look at it again until they debarked..

 

That's the smart way of doing it..

I don't mind answering. On a HAL Cruise back in 2005 my husband and I won a progressive jackpot of around $8,000. It paid for cruise, airfare, excursions etc and bought my mom a new freezer.

They demand ID for tax purposes (from US citizens) and we declared it etc.

 

We have had more luck on HAL ships than on any other cruise line or land-based casino. We are not big gamblers and my husband is GREAT (better than I am) at walking away a winner.

I did very well , last cruise . I just play Bj . The key for me is limit my time spent playing and always leave the casino with more chips than I arrive with . Sometimes I had to play longer than other sessions just to break even but at the end of our 11 day trip I cashed 25 black chips .

On my allure cruise in 2012. There was a woman who was playing max ( 4.00 ) on a penny progressive machine and won a little over 20 k,, yes I typed 20,000 But me nope nothing. Lol. I live in Vegas so I know the odds. Hehe

My biggest casino win has been on a HAL ship (less than $1,000). I play for fun, not a big gambler and have won some on land based casinos too - and have spent more time in them than on ships.

A fellow I know won $2000 a number of years ago. He had to go back to his cabin and get his passport to prove he was Canadian before he received his winnings. Canadians are not taxed on lottery winnings.

The most I have taken home was about 1K, accumulated over 14 days. However, had the pleasure of sitting next to someone who pulled in 16K on one hand of "Let it ride".

My aunt won twice in one day at the casino. I can't remember if the two totalled $1100 or if one prize was $1100. She was playing the slot machines.

 

Later that same cruise, she won a cruise playing bingo!

 

I think she had horseshoes up her butt!:D

The only ship slot Casinos that ever paid me are Ncl.Carnival and Rci .Princess Celebrity and HAL are very very tight .i try to avoid then as a result

Once in a very rare while we will play slots. I would say the biggest winner in the HAL casino is HAL. It sure would be exciting to win though. But not likely given how seldom we gamble. I think about winning the lotto, but then realize I actually need to buy a ticket sometime to win.

1st. Night put $20.00 in penny machine,played all week

And cashed out on last night $800.00.Payed bar bill :-)

A friend of ours won $25000 on the slots on a Carnival cruise a couple of years ago.

My wife won $5,000 on the Nieuw Amsterdam last year on a slot machine. They payout in cash which a little bit of a pain but we managed :p. They did send a 1099 so we get to pay taxes on those winnings.

A while ago, I read over on the Princess forum that someone won $57,000 on the penny slots on the Royal Princess! It was just a few months after her inaugural sailing.
