m*u*g* Posted June 19, 2014 #177 Share Posted June 19, 2014 close this--not a current event
Rare LMaxwell Posted June 19, 2014 #178 Share Posted June 19, 2014 close this--not a current event It contains the follow up to the event, but not the closing details of the matter how the island settles it. Should the Costa Concordia thread be closed too in this case?
cjdixon4 Posted June 19, 2014 #179 Share Posted June 19, 2014 close this--not a current event It might be simpler for you to leave the thread. Others may want follow-up info.
Ocean Boy Posted June 19, 2014 #180 Share Posted June 19, 2014 close this--not a current event How about you just stop reading it and let the rest of us decide for ourselves.:)
The_Big_M Posted June 20, 2014 #181 Share Posted June 20, 2014 How about you just stop reading it and let the rest of us decide for ourselves.:) Indeed. The poster can close the thread, if they don't want to read non-current events. :)
tidygirl Posted June 21, 2014 #182 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Do you have any idea of what type of currents are produced by ships' props especially with other objects close by like piers, pilings, and another ship?We were there the week of April 19th and was talking to a local he told us there was an accident and at least the one man was in his 50's,but since the accident they are now backing the ships in instead of pulling in to prevent an accident like this from happening again due to the pulls of the ship going into reverse. cruzincurt Posted June 21, 2014 #183 Share Posted June 21, 2014 We witnessed the accident while on the Silhouette. What they need is to install walking bridges to the isolated tie-down anchor locations, like they have in Cozumel. No need to be in a small boat. bokkje Posted June 21, 2014 #184 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Just as a followup, Captain Remo started a new rotation aboard Independence on 6-14-2014. Looks like he didn't get the boot. He starts his rotation 6-28-2014
ATC cruiser Posted June 21, 2014 #185 Share Posted June 21, 2014 Still need to use sideways thrust to depart the pier and that is what flipped that boat. By backing in, the bridge has a much better view of those remote piers.
ahecht Posted June 21, 2014 #186 Share Posted June 21, 2014 He starts his rotation 6-28-2014 Ahh, the "Current Captains" thread must be wrong.
KirkNC Posted June 21, 2014 #187 Share Posted June 21, 2014 According to a report by CNN, " two men died in St Kitts on Wednesday during a berthing accident involving Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas. The men were apparently assisting with mooring lines when they were thrown overboard from their boat as the ship pulled out of port. Eyewitnesses suggest that the cruise ship may have pulled out before the men had enough time to clear the area. The small boat was apparently swamped and capsized. Although wearing life vests, one man’s vest became unfastened as he was thrown into the water." copied from http://www.maritime-executive.com/article/Two-Killed-in-Cruise-Ship-Berthing-Accident-2014-04-03/ With sympathy, Salacia So sad, everything we do has some element of danger.
