What would make Oceania (even) better?

Thanks for the information and diagrams. In Martinis, do you know what the open space is at the left (where that small black "thing" is)?

Apparently trivia has been held in Martinis so it isn't such a far out idea. I was thinking about the Horizon Lounge on the larger Regent ships where trivia is held. If there are no seats, there are no seats -- not much can be done about it. The theaters on Regent are much more conducive to teams getting together for trivia (there are tables, etc.) but for some reason, it is never used for trivia.

I guess I was just trying to get across that, IMO, ideas should be welcomed whether good or bad. Making a poster feel badly for posting just isn't kind. :o

That black thing is the piano, on a stage-type area. During evening trivia, the host stands there.

I think we should keep the piano... the music is nice during "pig swill" (happy hour) ;-)

The casino brings in revenue the grand staircase does not :D

The grand staircase adds class to the ship, the casino does not. Charge a small fee for trivia to make up for the lost income, I am sure people would love to pay to get a great room to have it in.

Casinos provide intermittent reinforcement, which is a strong draw for many folks who will spend far more dollars than could ever be replaced by a "small fee" for trivia (which BTW, also is an intermittent reinforcer).

Oceania will continue to hold Trivia where it suits it's own needs, one of which is to assure any event venue is filled to capacity - a commonly accepted sign of success. And what hospitality/entertainment business would shy away from a successful product that costs almost nothing to produce?

That said, the easiest Trivia overcrowding solution that would not negatively impact other areas or events is to do what our local pub does on Tuesday's trivia night: take reservations.

Yes, evening trivia is usually held in Martinis. The reason for that is that the evening trivia is a "different animal" from the afternoon trivia. Namely, it is usually hosted by the staff and not the CD, it has a "lighter" atmosphere and it attracts a different and much smaller crowd. This size of crowd usually fits in fine into Martinis, although late comers frequently have to scramble for tables and seats.

And that is precisely why I like evening trivia. That afternoon trivia has become a very intense international competition that I do not at all enjoy while presumably relaxing on vacation. Real life is competive enough!:)

having just come off a Seabourn cruise I am convinced O has got it right!

only 1 minor change I would suggest that is the morning coffee delivered to the room with breakfast, the flavour is awful even when they assured me they had changed the brand it was still awful. The butlers now bring me either espresso or latte depending how I am feeling.

Me too. We dropped in on this a couple of times, joined a bunch who welcomed us, and had a great time. Who wants to be competitive on a cruise? (In fact, on Regent, we usually have just had a drink at the bar during trivia, so we can listen to the quiz without bothering to participate (although sometimes we have, but it's lots less organized on Regent.)
