Does Volendam have Self serve Laundry?

Recommended Posts

Will be traveling via train to get to Vancouver. Then 7 day Alaska then 3 days back home via train. Since The train will take several days by mid week i will need laundry -- unless, of course, I want to pack a "ton of clothes". Do they have a laundry I could use?

I think so. The deck plan shows a "launderette" on Deck 3. Others may know more about what's in there, but I remember coin operated washers and dryers from other ships. You might want to pack a zip lock bag of your favorite dry detergent, and some dryer sheets.

Yes, a self-service laundry service is available. Limited number of machines are available in the 2 locations (if I recall correctly). To avoid all of the machines are in use, I suggest a very late night use or as soon as the facility opens. It used to be they were available 24 hours a day, but I think the rooms are closed during the wee hours of the morning.

There are chairs, not many though, in the room and I suggest one staying with your laundry during its use. I have seen laundry being removed from machines when no one is in attendance and dumped on the floor so that the machince could be used by the new guest.

Sailed on Volendam last September. Our laundry had 8 machines total, 4 washers and 4 dryers. There were also 2 ironing boards/irons. There is no need to take detergent, the detergent supplied is low suds, and is eco-friendly. Take some dryer sheets. We went to the laundry on embarkation as we had been on the road two weeks, it got very busy as our load finished. Getting to the iron can be challenging in the time before dinner to plan accordingly.

There is also an "all you can stuff" blue laundry bag in your stateroom, as an alternative to doing laundry while on vacation. The cost is about $20/bag. As a family of four, we can really stuff! We have done this numerous times and enjoyed every minute of our cruise.

I was thinking there was a charge for the dryers, but on my Amsterdam World Cruise segment the washers were $2 but the dryers were free. I don't know if that is just a perk of Grand Voyages but it might be.

Definitely bring your own dryer sheets but detergent is provided.

When we were on the Amsterdam for 14 days in Alaska (2012) there was a charge for the dryers.

Maybe they got new ones.
