Legend of the Seas is sailing from Brisbane in 2015!!

if the Legend has to cruise from the Grain Terminal because the p&o Dawn or a Princess ship is at Portside it wont be good

You would assume that RCCL would schedule their turnarounds so as not to have them conflict. It is not as if there is a ship going into Brisbane every day of the week so there should be plenty of gaps.

Are you sure it can even make it to Portside?

Rhapsody can't, and is their marketed sister ship. Legend is technically smaller though. Most of the difference comes from being shorter. As best as I can find, the height difference is only 4 ft - 1.2 m between the two. It is 14m shorter.

I'm not sure whether it's height, or turning length (or both!) that are the issues for Rhapsody, but given there isn't a lot of difference between them, Legend may also be stuck at the Grain wharf.

Also, both are longer than Sun Princess, which is the longest able to make it through, so it could be that they are both too long.

Yes Legend can fit under the gateway bridge and RCI have announced (and this is in the video that is included earlier in this thread) that it will cruise from portside, hamilton wharf. There is even a digitally engineered image of what is suppose to look like legend going under the gateway bridge in the video.

Thanks, I hadn't watched the video.

just hope they arrange their itinerary to make sure no other ships are at portside other wise they could be at the grain terminal

Found this from a newsletter mailout...no actual dates but it does give us a few clues..

Legend of the Seas will begin its 2015 summer with a 15-night Westbound Panama Canal crossing, departing in April from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to San Diego, Calif. From there, the ship will embark on a trio of sailings across the Pacific to Singapore. A 10-night Hawaii cruise from Ensenada, Mexico, will take guests to the islands of Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii – with a cruise by the world famous and still-very active Kilauea Volcano – and conclude at Honolulu, Oahu. From there, Legend of the Seas will sail a 17-night itinerary to Sydney, Australia, via the French Polynesian islands, Fiji and New Caledonia. The ship will then complete its half-way-around-the-world voyage to Singapore via the north coast of Australia.

While homeported in Singapore, Legend of the Seas will sail a variety of three- to 10-night roundtrip itineraries throughout Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam through mid-November. Vacationers also can choose among two consecutive 14-night itineraries in September, a southbound sailing from Singapore to Perth (Fremantle), Australia, followed by a northbound return, both taking guests to Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Western Australia.

Legend of the Seas will then transitionfrom Singapore to its new homeport of Brisbane on an 18-night itinerary, departing in late November. During the cruise line's first season sailing from the Australian city, vacationers can choose among a wide range of eight- to 11-night, round-trip itineraries that take them to Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Loyalty Islands and Fiji in the South Pacific. The shipalso will offer seven-night Queensland sailings which feature an overnight at Cairns. Additionally, a 14-night New Zealand itinerary will take guests to Auckland, Tauranga, Napier, Wellington, Akaroa, and Dunedin, as well as cruise Dusky, Doubtful, and Milford sounds.

Thanks for that information.

Whilst the shorter cruises out of Brisbane, during our summer, don't appeal, the other longer cruises do.

The fact the cabins on the Legend of the Seas don't include a fridge is enough for me to give this one a miss...

I can't remember whether we had a fridge on the Legend but the lack of an electric jug on the Radiance certainly upset me more!

We very rarely use the fridge but we certainly enjoy boiling up the jug early in the morning and again late at night - if or when we feel like it!

I know on one of our cruises we didn't have a fridge - almost sure it was the Rhapsody - but the steward was more than happy to bring us an ice bucket if we asked for one to keep our wine cool. Also brought clean wine glasses each day if we required them. Nice to have a cool white wine on your balcony if you so desire!

The whole point of bringing Legend down is that she is able to get up the river to Portside. They don't have that many ships based in Brisbane, so scheduling shouldn't be a problem.

...and it is of a size that can dock in Cairns.

An overnight giving 2 full days in Cairns is a real winner.

During our winter I would be very happy to settle for cruises from Brisbane to Cairns ,

or Cairns to Brisbane .

I agree David , an overnighter in Cairns would be great. No Yorkeys Knob tendering , just walk off/on would be much easier and much more enticing. Call into the Casino and win your cruise fare back ..... well maybe:)

I agree, the Yorkeys knobtender process is real pain and so time consuming.

As for winning your cruise fare from the casino, the odds are stacked against you on that one. :D

If we keep asking, we may finally get our winter cruises north to Cairns, also Darwin, via Thursday Island, if they ever get really creative!

Interesting , would be a great itinerary. I can see you have cruised all over the world, whereas we have only cruised locally. A bit of creativity would be great and I am sure would interest a lot of cruisers who are tired of the Noumea , Vila etc cruises currently offered. I do note P&O Australia are offering some different destinations in their latest list of cruises.

A few standard cruises to the islands and a few slightly differing itineraries would be a happy medium and i am sure would enable better passenger satisfaction.:D

We kept asking and asking for a circumnavigation cruise of Australia and they kept saying that Australians did not want that and would not book it. Finally Princess put their toe in the water and offered one and guess what?

It sold out in 2 weeks, such was the demand.

Now they are all jumping on the badwagon and doing Round Australia and Top End cruises.

If we keep asking for winter cruising of the Queensland Coast and the Top End then perhaps someone in the cruise lines Head Office may listen and give it a go.

At least RCCL have recognised that they need a ship of a size that will fit Brisbane and Cairns.

Great strategy, hope it keeps working.

We want more cruise lines to offer winter cruises to increase competition. :D

Love the idea of the 7 night cruise out of Brisbane. Such a beautiful place in the world.

If we have to fly to Sydney to cruise its not much more to fly to Brisbane.

Love the ideas of different itineraries. Give us more variety & increase the return cruisers.
