Suite Questions

Is this a new perk? Have been in Celebrity RS and PS and never been offered escorted boarding , (like RCI does for their Royal Suite Guests).

Also, just to be clear, is Celebrity offering drinks and appetizers for upper suites now in Micheal's until 8:00PM?

Will be in the Infinity PS in October 2014, and I'd like to know what to expect.

Happy Sailing,

tnt

This [escort and drinks/appetizers but not necessarily times] has been reported by some suite guest since Michael's Club has been converted to the suite lounge. I do not think that there have been enough reports yet to say exactly what is being offered on all ships at this stage. Please report back with your experience so that we can continue to build a picture of what is being phased in when.

When we tried to use our Elite and Elite Plus coupons on our latest cruise, the sommelier always said "forget about those, I can give you a better discount than that!". OK, we were purchasing a lot of the more pricey wines and he had to "disappoint" us on the first evening because an even more expensive desert wine my husband wanted was not available [and, that, after we needed to ask the maitre d' in Ocean Liners for the sommelier because he had ignored us], but it was clear that [at least some of] the sommeliers have considerable discretion about prices. In view of this and your story, it never hurts to ask ...

I agree about the considerable discretion. When we have used a coupon for a nice (reserve list wines) we have been offered even better discounts on reorders.

We certainly didn't complain and the MDR sommelier offered. When the Murano sommelier said he couldn't do that we didn't argue as we didn't want to get the MDR sommelier in hot water. We just ordered our more expensive wines there :D

Happy sailing,

Jenna

Exact response I would have given.

Thanks Sue.

We were in a CS last October on Infinity. When we were checking in, we were handed an evelope, I was given a red rose, and we were given 2 vip pass badges to wear. We were escorted straight away directly through security (we were taken to a security scanner and put straight through), onto the ship and into Michaels lounge for drinks and a buffet was set out.

To be honest, we didnt use the lounge much during the cruise, but whenever we went we were always offered whatever we wanted to drink, and it was all very pleasant :)

Who knows, we do, it's just another option.

Whoever has their fingers on the remote ;)

Choices are good.

Do you think a universal remote works to decrease volume or click OFF the TV?

Hidden in pocket, of course.:)

Thanks for the post.

Well that would work, but would be terribly rude.

Why not do the civilized thing and simply chat with your fellow guests in the lounge and come to a consensus on what to watch or what volume level things should be instead of making at all to your specific liking only?

The lounge is intended as a gathering spot to meet fellow passengers, and the TV is on to watch a sports match or some special event together and enjoy the camaraderie of tour fellow passengers. The cabin televisions are perfect if one wants their own individualized programming and settings - especially if in a suite with the larger televisions.

Thanks. Do you remember the times drinks were offered prior to dinner times? The reason I'm asking about this is that I emailed Celebrity about extending the times that the Vouchers, (or drinks in Michael's) were valid prior to MDR seating times. I asked if the time could be extended from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM to accommodate those with late MDR seating, and was told "no."

Was wondering if this is currently followed, or if they have relaxed on this cut-off time a bit.

Thanks,

tnt

Last year Michaels Club was open for everyone from 7pm, so that would appear to fit in with what you have been told. With the new suite 'extras' being brought in from April next year this may well change.

I honestly think that with so few people who have access, and so few using it often, it won't be an issue. There is just so little to watch at sea anyway, and most are like you, they cruise to get away.

Just so I am clear, we are in a Royal Suite on Millie in two weeks. So Michaels will be available to us for free drinks every evening before dinner? I haven't read about this perk anywhere.

Are you sure about your statement? I know it is open all day, but does it always include free cocktails for High End Suites and Zenith? I thought I read that the free cocktails were only during a 2/3 hour period.

The reports have been that any beverages [within reason] are available at any time in Michael's Club for high-end suites and Zenith Captain's Club members on all Celebrity ships. However, at this stage, this is an unpublished perk until April 2015 when the new suite class is implemented. It has been reported that the beverages are available even when the bar is unmanned but this has not been reported by everyone. There have been other, isolated reports of other perks that neither appear to be fleet wide nor consistently applied. There is no reason to expect the Michael's Club perk to be discontinued but, as it is an unpublished perk at this stage, nor can anyone complain if it is not received at this stage.

On the M Class ships Blu is on the top port side of MDR. Where will suite dining be ? I understand on the S Class ships it will we top port side.

All we know for "certain" is that it "will be located in a newly crested space just off the Main restaurant. On Millennium Class ships, the restaurant will be located on Deck 5 Port side".

We are in a suite in September 2014 and always purchase the premium package as we love the Martini Bar and have our pre dinner drinks there as we like the buzzy atmosphere of this bar.

Whilst appreciating the new upgraded perks with a suite I cannot imagine it would be much fun sitting in a quiet room every evening with how many people?

I may be wrong on this count and will certainly go along to see what is on offer.

For those of you that have tried Michaels Cub under the new offers what was it casually like ?

Thanks

My experience on the Eclipse was anytime. There was generally someone available from 8AM until 9PM every day. I didn't usually venture in there outside of these times to know what the procedure is when it is unmanned.

I had mimosas in the morning, as well as lattes and cappucinos from Cafe al Bacio and fresh squeezed juices. Bailey's coffee or a cappucino in the afternoon. Wine and a decent bar selection in the evening. If they didn't have it, but could get it from Ensemble outside, they would.

I think the atmosphere will likely depend on who the other suite guests are. There were usually only a few couples in Michael's Club on most nights, although it was definitely busier on formal nights (when they usually brought in some music). Some people utilized it quite a bit, and others I never even saw in there.

It's definitely going to vary cruise to cruise and ship to ship and by hour of the day based on the particular traveler demographic on the particular cruise.

Even hotel concierge lounges sit empty most of the day, getting busy just for an hour or so at breakfast and dinner time, so it's not much of a surprise this lounge also seems dead most of the time. It's really a place for suite guests to pool in, see what snack is there, grab it and continue on. Or grab a quick drink, say hello to whoever is there, and take it and wander off to a more busy destination. This is how I used it anyway.

However it is a perk that is needed to keep Celebrity in line with outer cruises lines in offering a dedicated lounge for its suite guests, so I am happy they have provided it. And at the same time didn't miss not having access to it on my last cruise when I was in Aqua, as there is such a huge selection of bars and intimate spaces on the ship to choose from.

I agree with this, just as a hotel has a "concierge" lounge, it also has a generally more busy lobby bar with a very different vibe. Each has a purpose and travelers will have a preference which they prefer at any time.

Just noticed that this is available in Michaels. Does anyone have any details, eg times, menus etc?

I was asking about the premium continental breakfast that is mentioned on the celebrity website in the details on Michaels. I Di put that in the title for my post:)

My question referred to the info given on the Celebrity website, I have pasted it below and marked the breakfast reference in red.

Michael's Club

A private lounge for those in Celebrity, Signature, Royal, Penthouse and Reflection Suites, as well as for Captain’s Club Zenith members. This luxurious club features a large-screen TV, reading areas stocked with magazines, newspapers, and books, plus a premium continental breakfast. Complimentary pre-dinner drinks and tapas are served 5–8 PM daily. Its dedicated Concierge can help arrange your specialty dining, shore excursions, even handle inquiries about various ports of call. Desk hours vary by itinerary. Michael’s Club is available 24 hours a day.

Thanks for further clarifying by referencing the material you were quoting from. Even with the availability of info on the Celebrity website and on Cruise Critic regarding the suite class enhancements, there still seems to be confusion or lack of understanding about Michael's Club and the changes this lounge has undergone.

As you may have learned from other posts on this thread or through other reading/research you may have done since the original question was asked, the lounge (Michael's Club) is open 24/7 to suite passengers (Celebrity Suite and up) plus Zenith passengers. This "premium continental" breakfast is most likely similar to that served at the Elite breakfast, but could vary from cruise to cruise and ship to ship. I cannot speak to hours that the food is actually available, but some of the other cruisers that have spent time in Michael's could hopefully shed some light on it for you.

If you are booked in a Celebrity suite (or higher) on an upcoming cruise, I hope you will check out the amenities in Michael's Club and report back to us on your experiences. :)

We are in a CS on Infinity in July and I will definitely report back. Apart from breakfast I am interested on whether it is worth having a drinks package given the range of complimentary drinks in Michaels.

We were on the Solstice last week to Alaska in a Royal suite. A continental breakfast was offered in the mornings (hours fluctuated somewhat depending on port arrival and departure schedules, but breakfast was available for several hours each morning.) There was an assortment of breads and pastries, fresh fruit, meats, and cheeses. Choice of beverages included fresh juices, coffee, fancy coffee beverages such as lattes, teas, alcoholic drinks such as mimosas and Bloody Mary's, etc etc.

In the late afternoon/evening hors d'oeuvres were offered from roughly 5-8pm, again dependent on that particular day's schedule, as well as cocktails, wine, beer and so forth. They did try to offer a variety of different food selections each day.

One afternoon there was a fancy tea service complete with small, elegant sandwiches and scones.

On three separate occasions there was live music offered in the lounge. One evening also we had the opportunity to meet the Captain and some of the navigational officers.

I have read frequently that people pass by Michael's Lounge and say they find it deserted. On the Solstice at least, the lounge forms a kind of backwards "L" shape, with the bar and food area not viewable from the front doors. The bar/food section is where most of the action was taking place.:)

There is also a dedicated suite excursion concierge to offer a variety of unique and private excursions, not necessarily expensive, but reasonably priced for cruise ship shore excursions.

The dedicated Michael's Lounge concierge had official office hours listed both in the morning, and the late afternoon/evening, but she was there frequently at other times as well. The concept of Michael's Club lounge is a work in progress, but it is a delightful amenity to offer suite and Zenith guests, and we enjoyed it immensely.

Edited to add: Beverages are available at other times of the day as well, not only when food is being served. There is no additional charge for any beverages, alcoholic or otherwise, nor is there any additional charge for any food consumed.

I am an avid Celebrity cruiser but this is my first time in a Suite. we have booked the Royal Suite on the Summit and I Have been reading many posts about cocktail parties (with sandwiches/canapes), snacks, shrimp cocktail, etc. in the cabin. Are these FREE items or is there a charge? Also, is the hot tub a real hot tub or just a glorified bathtub with jets? In other words, does it have to be filled every time you want to use it or does the water stay hot? Thanks.
