About the beer package

My husband prefers beer to cocktails, especially around the pool and in the casino. If he buys several beer packages (6 for 5) can he take the cans around the pool or into the casino? I don’t recall ever seeing anyone carrying a beer can around the ship. Will they provide a mug or glass for the beer at the pool or casino?

There is a beer package in addition to the alcohol package?? Geez, add that to the coffee card and the soda sticker and my head will be spinning from confusion. I better study up on all this before I leave on the CB in August!

The beer "package" is just a bucket of beer with a buy 5, get one "free" and has always been available on Princess ships - it's not something new like the alcohol package.

Yes, if he buys a bucket of beer (6 for 5), he can take the remainders to his cabin, take them to the casino, take them to the shows, etc - wherever he likes really. I've carried my beer bottles around with me, taken a few back to the cabin, etc. Not a problem - just like carrying a cocktail with him. If it's glass bottles, they will poor in a mug - don't want glass bottles around the pool deck. plastic bottles or metal cans - no worries.

Enjoy your sailing.

The bucket of six is purchased through Gifts and Services before the cruise and is delivered to your cabin. It is cheaper to buy than to wait until you are on the ship. It is six beers for the price of five $23.95. That figures out to $4 a beer. We bought two buckets on our last cruise and had them delivered to our cabin and put them in the frig in the room. If you wait to buy on the ship you will pay the 15% tip also. You can call Princess Guest Services and they will handle it for you. You pay up front when you call in the order.

As previous poster said, pre order from the onboard catalog. I only drink beer and really like beer. I ordered 26 packages for our 15 day Panama Canal cruise. I always had COLD beer in my fridg regardless of the time of day. Good investment.

Not all the beer types are available thru room service. I ordered 5 pkgs before my last cruise wanting bud lite, could not get the 6 for 5, so I turned in 5 of them at pursers desk and then ordered the regular buckets offered on board. Not as great a savings, but still a good deal.

I'm trying to run the numbers on this to see what the best deal is. If I pay $23.95 for five beers then I must assume that a beer is $4.79 each. Is this also the price at the bar for a beer? If so then I compute the difference between the pre purchased beer and the on board buckets as follows:

Pre Purchase

Six beers for $23.95 equals $3.99 each.

On Board Bucket

Purchase four beers for $4.79 each equals $19.16 plus 15% makes the total $22.03. Divide this by five to account for the free beer equals $4.40 each.

I would save 41 cents per beer with the pre purchase. Not a big deal, but maybe worth considering.

I pre-ordered two of the six for five packs on recent Island Panama cruise. Cards left in room, room service brought when requested - two sixes would not fit in fridge. I am 99% sure that I ordered a third six for five pack on board from room service (not the five for four bucket at a bar). Pretty sure it was not more than the pre-order before cruise.

In my earlier post comparing the pre purchase of six beers for the price of five with the on board purchase of five beers for the price of four, I assumed a beer price that is not correct for the on board beer. Thanks to another posters list of all alcohol prices, I am able to do a better comparison. All of the below figures are based on the price of four beers plus 15% tip then divided by five to compute for the free beer.

Bass Ale

Beck's

Blue Moon

Dos Equis $4.55

Budweiser 16 oz

Bud Light 16 oz $5.06

Heineken $4.83

Coors Light

Miller Light

MGD $3.91

This shows that if you are drinking Coors or Millers, you are better off buying the five for the price of four bucket on board even with the 15% tip.
