Drink packages

First cruise. Sailing on Royal Caribbean Alaskan cruise. Wondering about drink packages. My husband and I enjoy having two -- possible 4 glasses of wine in the evening.

Possible scenario could include a glass of wine each before dinner, one each during dinner and a couple glasses before bed time. Looking at the $40 package which indicates unlimited glasses of wine or beer.

We are not aficionados. Good, moderate California wines are okay.

Wondering if we could order a couple glasses of wine at a time with our drink packages and pour them into personal tumblers or bottles to take back to our cabins for private, quiet consumption as we prepare for bed time.

Best to ask this on the Royal Caribbean board.

Other cruiselines require a few minutes between alcoholic orders.

Price out the cost of the package v price by the glass.

The best reason to purchase a drink package is convenience. On a port-intensive cruise to Alaska there is no point in crunching the numbers to see if you are "ahead" of the game; you probably won't be--so you have to decide if it is better for you to pay one set amount and forget about it instead of paying as you go.

As others have said, you will only be served one glass at a time per person. If an officer spots you "hoarding" wine into your personal container they will assume you are doing so to share it with others and have the right to cancel the package without refund.

If you want a glass of wine for a nightcap in your cabin, just stop at a bar right before you retire for the evening. You are more than free to carry the glass with you--no need to drink out of a plastic cup like the scuzzos in the 7-Eleven parking lot.

You would need to consume 6-8 glasses of wine or 10-12 beers per person per day to make the package worthwhile. You are also allowed to bring a bottle of wine each at embarkation . Ask your steward for wine glasses in the cabin but bring your own opener. happy cruising

RCI used to have a wine package where you bought a set number of bottles....you could take the entire bottle to your cabin. Or, as someone else said, just stop at a bar, and get your drink on the way to the cabin. You may take the glasses anywhere except on the pool deck. (plastic only there!!)

Just to clarify for the OP, the RCI wine policy is two bottles of 750 ml wine per stateroom at embarkation - not one per person. Solo travelers, for instance, can bring two bottles for their stateroom.

And as was asked, you also certainly can bring glasses of wine back to your stateroom with the beverage packages as well. Just may need to make a couple of stops at the bars to do so, but the amount you can bring back not limited.

Sorry we can't do any more of this. Too bad .....
