No more balcony smoking on Carnival

Recommended Posts

Well I just cancelled a cruise on Carnival AND a cruise on Royal Caribbean due to their smoking policy. We will be moving to NCL and hope we like them since they are obviously more open to different types of people.

We also very much enjoy the casino and have heard great things about their casino perks and that you can actually win. Carnival has terrible slot machines and not very good perks.

Looking forward to trying a new cruise line.

LOL....and your responses are obnoxious....get over yourself. Learn to be tolerant of other people...its a two-way street.

OH MY GOD!!! SOMEONE IS SMOKING a CIGAR OUTSIDE!!! (AS you sail on a traveling human waste production vessiel and massive carbon burning ocean hole cutting machine)

You probably get more toxins in your body at the buffet than being 3 balconies over from a cigar smoker....

This is the BEST thing I have read ALL day. I love it!!!!

So at the 13 page mark of the discussion has any one side changed the other sides point of view yet? No? Didn't think so. Funny how that works, eh? ;)

These monthly I'll-get-the-last-word-in-dammit-marathons are usually good for twenty pages anyway. I'll be back to check on you guys after I get back from the store. I'm out of bacon and maple syrup.

Adios.

Best...post...ever. :D:D:D:D:D Would ya pick me up a lobsta tail?

Due to the smoking policy changing on CCL, I am now moving my cruising addiction business over to NCL. I have always been a courteous smoker no matter where I am at, so if you are on a balcony next to me, I am approachable:D.

I have also read of the great casino perks the NCL offers, which is a bonus since we love to spend lots of time in the casino:eek:.

I am sure that other CCL smokers will also be coming this way.

Thanks to the poster on the CCL board that said "COME ON OVER TO NCL"...

Here I am and thanks for the invite:D

Same here. Have always enjoyed Carnival, but it is time for a change. Plus nicer ships on NCL than Carnival. Also, go Pittsburgh. Love the area. Spent a lot of time out in Westmoreland county where I have a lot of family. Love the Steelers too.

Had to comment about that you said about Carnival's slot machines. They are the worst on land or at sea. Whole casino on Carnival is a rip off. Looking forward to trying out Getaway, hopefully late Nov/early Dec this year.

I admittedly did not read the entire thread but assume that it is pretty much the same. I do not smoke but my husband does:)

We honestly said we would like to try another line but this was the catalyst .

So we would like to cruise Christmas - my 2 adult sons will be in an inside & hubbs and I with a balcony - any ship suggestions to look at would be great.

Meanwhile it is fun getting to know another line - reading the boards ect

Let me guess, you are a liberal who voted for bammy right?

Actually no....not at all, exact opposite actually... but way to go to bring politics into a discussion about smoking on a balcony or not and how much it ruins your world, your cruise, and how I am the most awful person in the world because I decide to do so....

As if we all couldn't tell you were judgmental of people before.....that comment seals the deal.

You do realize this entire back and forth was started just because I SAID I ignore the private balcony no smoking rule right?...that at night I would smoke a cigar when the neighbors are not around..... NOT that I have actually done this...and you were my neighbor, and it bothered you....just SAYING I would....on the internet. This, somehow, has offended you, a complete stranger.... so much that I am "rude, obnoxious, arrogant, and an example to your children of what not to grow up to be like"......

Let that sink in for a moment....

Uh, how fast do you smoke? One long drag on the whole thing?

Okay 5-10 mins till its out?

I was on NCL few years ago and all three people in the cabin next door smoked what seemed non-stop. When one was finished, the other lit up. They must have been doing a tag team round robin chain smoke thing. The smell lasted for hours with a few minutes of non-stink in between.

Actually timed it once to make a point to a complainer at work. A bit over 3 minutes.

It lasted hours? Boy did you just lose all shred of credibility.

And as other posters have stated, each of us leaving CCL and coming over to NCL due to the smoking policy should send out 2 emails. One to CCL letting them know we are moving and why, and one to NCL with the same information. Lord knows the anti-smoking zealots spammed the hell out the inboxes at Carnival and got their way. Unless the smokers do the same, NCL may just bend to the tide. ;)

If people are chain smoking, the smell most certainly can last for hours. We had the unfortunate luck of being next to chain smokers once. It was disgusting. They were out there constantly.

Cruising during Christmas Day is pricey, could you go the week before? There is a great buy on the 7 day on the Jewel out of Houston. The 2 BR Haven Suite is around $2,699 without discounts such as military or AARP for the first two people and I think that your two adult sons would be free sailing as the 3rd and 4th through today only bookings. So, without actually plugging in the details, I think it would be around $1500-$1600 per person for this incredible cruise experience. You would have your own balcony to smoke on and then have the ability to smoke on the huge upper level Haven sundeck. Also, the ship within a ship concept of the Haven is a wonderful perk. Last year my husband and I had this suite for just the two of us. We closely watched the prices of the Haven suites go down and then pounced on the chance to move from an aft suite to the 2 BR Haven at no additional charge!!! Hubby used the second bathroom as his personal bathroom (!) and the second bedroom as his dressing room. Every evening we would go to a show, have a couple of drinks and then I would change into a swimsuit and relax in the hot tub while my husband took a late evening nap on a sunbed in the Haven. We were the ONLY ONES using this space from around 10:30p.m.-midnight each night!!!!

Some people may overlook the Haven as a possibility to cruise in because of the price point, but with great sales, once it gets broken down per person, it can become an awesome value. Some of the benefits of being in the Haven are, priority embarkation and disembarkation, priority tendering, dining at Cagney's for breakfast and lunch, reserved seating in the theater, use of the butler and concierge. Of course this same week you can get into a balcony for $589 and the inside is $539 p.p. excluding taxes and port fees. The next week, being Christmas is $899 and $799, so a premium for that holiday.

Out in the ocean?, on a moving ship? Sorry that just doesn't jive with common sense

Agreed! The total over the top exaggeration from non-smokers is comical! :)
