No more balcony smoking on Carnival

Recommended Posts

When I smoked, not all that long ago, I was at a slot machine in AC, in the smoking section. A women came and sat next to me and started coughing, etc. when I lit up. I asked her if she realized she was in the smoking section and she said yes, but she liked that particular machine. I put the cigarette out and eventually moved to another machine far away from her, also in the smoking section.

Funny in a way because there are also machines I liked in the non-smoking section so when I played those......I just didn't smoke.

When I smoked, I always always always asked anyone sitting next to me, smoking section or not, if they minded if I smoked. I realize I am the minority though. Most people just don't care. Not saying this is you - it's obvious from your post that it's not you ... I'm just basing this on the posts I have read here.

Like you said 75% of AC casinos are non smoking. If I'm in the smoking section I have no intention of not smoking if I so chose. However I always always make sure the smoke is Not going into the face of the person next to me even if they are a smoker there are several machines I like (like the one on my avatar) that are in no smoking sections and when I'm playing in that section I would never even consider smoking a cigarette.

I was playing blackjack a few weeks ago and was sitting at a smoking table (only 2 available) and the dealer was a non smoker even though the table was smoking I saw she was uncomfortable so I took a break and went to smoking area for my smoke. But when I came back there was a couple that both lit up and for some reason their cigarettes smelt so horrible I actually said something to them about the dealer being uncomfortable and that they make sure to not blow smoke towards her. They didn't listen of course. For that dealer I felt truly sorry for her having to deal with people like them.

What non-smoker would stand in a smoking area to begin with?! Some of these posts really crack me up.

Gee and you have never wandered into the smoking section because "they have the machine i like" puhhhhlllleeeeaaasssseeeee

Unfortunately I meet someone like you in every casino I go to

I don't care one way or another about smoke or smokers. I just find it interesting that people would plan an entire vacation around how many steps they have to take to have a cigarette. As someone who smoked for 25 years (quit for 2 now), that seems bizarre to me.

I have friends who smoke and who do not. They go to casinos together often. At times the ones who do not smoke need to tarck down the otehrs (for whatever reason) so they walk over to teh smoking ection to find them. they do not stay there for an extened period of time but they do stay long enough to find the rest of the group. Kind fo odd though that you want to smoke anywhere but you think non-smokers should never be allowed anywhere near you. Just sayin...

OK. I'll buy into that except when there is a group of people smoking continuously for a long period of time. It isn't the same smoke but instead a steady stream of smoke.

On our last NCL cruise there were two twenty-something guys who quickly picked up two girls. They all smoked and spent all evening on the balcony smoking. We were a little surprised that they didn't avail themselves more of the party life until we realized they preferred smoking.

Fair enough...in a situation such as you described there could be a somewhat uncomfortable feeling for you.

I would hope though that four Twenty Something guys and gals could find a way to have some fun without simply sitting on the balcony smoking!

Even in the situation you described it sounds like it was a one evening thing. What drives me crazy are the people saying that they couldn't enjoy their balconies the entire cruise because of the smoke. They say things like the smokers next to them were on the balcony 24/7. Well in order for them to know that they too would need to be on their balcony 24/7. While we enjoy our balconies as much as anyone I suppose....there are so many great things to do on a cruise I just don't understand (or believe) that anyone would spend 24/7 on a balcony.

Isn't that exactly what the non-smokers are saying? They don't want to be a football field away from a smoker because it will linger for hours, stink up their clothes, make their hair fall out, should I keep going?

It has nothing to do with 24/7. I doubt anyone wants to "enjoy" their balcony at 3am. There are prime times for using the balcony. I liked to use mine in the morning while drinking coffee, or in the evenings after dinner watching the sun set. It's quite possible that every time during the cruise they wanted to use their balcony they found that the people next door had a similar schedule.

It is not how many step you have to take it is convenience..if i want to have a cigarette in the morning before I am dressed why should i have to get dressed to go have one. If I want my Butler to deliver breakfast to my suite so I can relax why bother if i have to go somewhere else to smoke? I understand your point but it is very inconvenient and I like to not stress on vacation. By the way we are VERY considerate of our neighbors when we smoke on our balcony.

Unfortunately then Mike (for you or anyone else that feels like they are effected this way) It comes down to luck of the draw. If NCL decides to ban it then that would take away the luck factor...however if they don't it should never be an unknown for people booking balconies that they are in fact in a smoking allowed area. I can understand that they might not like it or agree with it but it is what it is.

I don't smoke. I think it's funny the smokers think the non-smokers seek them out, that's all. Regardless, if someone is in a smoking area in the casino, it's really rude to cough, wave your hands, or make noises.

I have received my first response from emailing NCL. They are reviewing their current policies, and will have a decision in 1 - 2 weeks.

I was responding to the person who was all amazed that someone who does not smoke would ever enter a smoking area. Nope I didn't join just for that but they are quite entertaining and comical.

My brand new what?

;) The spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors are making me pull my hair out LOL I really hope the author corrected her "letter" to NCL. Good grief.

Stop the "they and us" thing, princess. I replied as an experienced smoker. If I want a cigarette and I'm somewhere I can't smoke, I go somewhere I can. I don't rearrange a family trip. Good grief.

But it didn't when you were a smoker though did it?

Yeah, it would have seemed bizarre then. I was regularly faced with situations where there were designated smoking areas. If I wanted a cigarette, I'd go to one. If I didn't want to go to one, I wouldn't have a cigarette. It's really not a complicated concept.

Actually it was for some variable length of time every evening. I assume since there were so few other places they could smoke, they decided to just stay on their balcony.

I'll try that logic next time I get a ticket for running a red light.

Its not that the light was red, its that it wasn't green!

I'm afraid you've blown that one. Running a red light is illegal. People here are talking about why they want to sail on lines that allow smoking on a balcony. The two are therefore not comparable.

Good Morning, I just wanted to say that I appreciate the fact that your cruise line does allow smoking on balconies. With the new change to Royal Caribbean and Carnival it just makes me want to sail with you all the more. There are plenty of places for non smokers to congregate but less and less for smokers. I really hope that this continues to be the case. I have over 100 days (and 5 more cruises booked with you & looking at #'s 6 & 7 at the moment) and would be really disappointed if I was unable to enjoy your outstanding product in the future. I think it will benefit your company to remain as is because the nitch is getting smaller & smaller and I think you will pick up a lot of new business in the future (On cruise critic a lot of people have already cancelled and booked with you)

I wish your company continued success in the future and want to remind you "If it is not broken, don't fix it"

Maybe you've been living the Gieco commercial, can you please show me exactly what word is spelled incorrectly, and since you brought it up how about passing along "your response", not to say I don't believe you but e-I-e-I-don't.
