Added stop on itenarary in August

Recommended Posts

A person in our roll call had posted that their itinerary showed an added stop in Grand Bahamas instead of a sea day for the August 18 cruise on Enchantment so, I went in to look for myself and sure enough it shows it on mine also. Has anyone ever had this happen?

No, haven't seen this before. We're on Enchantment in Octiber, and our itinerary still shows the sea day.

I've had a couple of cruises where they changed the itinerary by swapping to different ports, both for Med and Caribbean. RCI never notified us, we also found out on our roll call. In Royal's defense, both these cruises were booked well in advance. I believe both changes took place about three months out just prior to final payment. I do think we should be notified.

I hope this happens to us, we are booked on voyager of the seas. She goes into dry dock, then a 4 nighter singapore to singapore, then our cruise 13 nights singapore to sydney. When she arrives in sydney she is in port for a day and night and there are only 3 stops between singapore and sydney so we hope that maybe one of the sea days will become a stop or they will add a stop plus 1 night. Although some people have been speculating that the free day after she arrives in sydney will be a day for the media and TAs to inspect her following her month long dry dock in singapore.

This may be something to watch, thanks for reporting it. I've had a couple of opportunities to choose between Majesty and Sovereign, Monarch, or Enchantment and chosen Majesty each time because of Key West vs a Sea day. I've never been on a vision class ship, so I would consider this one with another port.

If you booked directly with RCI they should have notified you. If you booked with a travel agent, they should let you know.

This happened on our recent NCL cruise. We had an active roll call and everyone (including me) who booked with a TA wasn't notified by NCL. However, those booking directly with NCL did receive notification.

I'm sure there are exceptions, but I think the norm is that once you book with a TA the cruise line directs the notices to them to relay to you.

We spent a week at a resort on Grand Bahama Island once on a deal we saw advertised on TV where you you cruised over on a Ship out of Fort Lauderdale (Company no longer in business) and you stayed for the week then you cruised back to Fort Lauderdale at the end of the week. People are always taklking about Nassau, but I would take a port stop in Nassau over a port stop on Grand Bahama Island any day. We didn't like Grand Bahama Island at all and were so glad when that week was over.

On July 9th I booked the 4 day cruise on Aug. 11 on Enchantment with the last day at sea.

1 week later I checked (okay maybe 8 days :D) and the sea day had been replaced with the port stop and I started trying to find new cruise compasses (finally posted a thread on July 18th).

I did not receive an email about the itinerary change. (Checked the junk filters too!)

Common thinking in other threads I've seen is that it gives them an extra port stop during the heavy tropical season when seas can be high due to activity. Personal (my family) whining says we want a sea day. We'll just, as my Dad always says, "Go with the flush."

We get back and school starts right away. I'll try to post about the stop, but it may be a while because of those pesky job and family responsibilities.

We did the 4 day on Monarch a couple of times and I must admit - I would have appreciated a port stop or something. The sea day was so blinking hot and the ship barely moving (I think we were coasting) so no breeze! Too hot for the balcony, too hot for the pool deck. Just spent our time looking for a cool place and cold drink!

We were on EN last week and were told that the 2 Grand Bahamas port calls are for needed cleaning of EN's hull and a few minor repairs. As most of you know, RCCL's dry dock is close by and the needed materials and labor are available.

If you don't want a port day...don't get off the ship! You can have a "sea day" even if you're docked...but with fewer fellow passengers!

Except, there will be fewer activities, most if not all on board venues will be closed (shops, casino, etc), dining room will be closed for lunch, ship will be very hot because of no movement. Not an ideal "sea day" for many.

I booked this cruise specifically for the Grand Bahama stop. For the unhappy folks please read #6 In your cruise ticket contract.http://media.royalcaribbean.com/content/en_US/pdf/RoyalCaribbean_Cruise_Ticket_Contract_013114.pdf

I'm glad you were able to get a stop that you wanted. I like the itineraries with stops in Key West, but they are hard to find so I understand.

That being said, if you were referring to me as one of the "unhappy folks" who needs to read my cruise contract, I think you are being a bit unfair. I was only answering the OP's question and stating that they didn't let me know about the change, not complaining about it. It never even crossed my mind to complain to the company (and not just because I DO know what it says in my contract, it really is a minor thing). It would have been nice for them to notify passengers because one might not have discovered it until significantly later, potentially reducing the ability to research and/or reserve options for the day on Grand Bahama. Fortunately, we noticed it and it really is not that big a deal. Just gives us a new and unexpected place to explore. As I said, while we like the day at sea we are going to make the most of it.

I have been to both, and I prefer Freeport. The tourist attractions are more limited and the infrastructure is less developed, but those are exactly some of the reasons why I prefer it. It's more laid back. When you go to Freeport, chances are that your ship will be the only one there, or maybe one of two, NOT like in Nassau where your ship could be one of 6 or 7. Walking around the Lucaya Marketplace seems so much more laid back and un crowded than downtown Nassau and the Straw Market. Also, the beach is much more accessible to day trippers than in Nassau. You can walk right over to Lucaya Beach from the Marketplace.

I remember the promotions that you mention. Discovery Cruise Line? I would price them out when I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, but I didn't like the hotels. Most of them looked dumpy. It seems like Freeport doesn't have as many hotels, and besides 2 or 3 nicer ones, most are small and tired. Also, the cruise portion was nothing more than a 4 hour ferry over to Freeport. Not my idea of a real cruise.

I was not referring to anyone in particular. However if you are unhappy about the change I guess it applies to you. Maybe you will get a sea day anyway as it is possible to be unable to tender to CoCo Cay. By the way as far as i know RCI has never notified anyone about minor changes to their itineraries.

If you want a stop in KW you should think about taking a cruise from Miami as both Majesty & Vision have KW in their itinerary, in fact Vision is there today(8/10/14).
