Lizziedrippin Posted July 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Hi all - just a really quick question that I'm hoping someone will be able to definitively answer...... We are looking to book our 2nd cruise - the Anthem of The Seas on 2nd Sept - Italian Mediterranean and want to be sure that the ship does organise some kind of activity/meeting schedule for 18-21 year olds... I feel sure that this was offered on the Independence of the Seas when we last travelled but our youngsters still fit into the lower age range (15 - 17 I think) at that point. They would definitely want some kind of schedule to be able to get together with others their age so I really want to find this out before booking! Can anyone advise? Many thanks in advance :)
SadieN Posted July 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Best to ask this on the Royal board.
gerif Posted July 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 31, 2014 A bit difficult to respond since this ship has not yet sailed ever. However, based on other RCI ships, there should be some sort of "meet and greet" and possibly some other activities scheduled. Young people of that age tend to congregate on the sports deck and meet one another that way.
njmomof2 Posted July 31, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Many people report that while there is notice of a meet and greet, often no one shows up. Most of the 18-20 group tend to find each other on the sports court or other sorts of activities locations. It's a hard age. They can gamble but not drink, they are too old for "kid clubs" but sometimes they are not able to find each other easily.
Life is Good Cruising Posted July 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Yes this is a new ship still being built, there will be lots of things for them to do like: Bumper cars, roller skating, basketball court, circus school and more at Seaplex, the largest indoor active space at sea RipCord by iFLY®, the first skydiving experience at sea North Star observation capsule FlowRider® surf simulator 30-foot high Rock Climbing Wall Music Hall, an edgy venue for live music performances http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/ships/class/ship/home.do?shipClassCode=QN&shipCode=AN&br=R Looking forward to our cruise on Anthem. cb at sea Posted August 1, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 1, 2014 (edited) At 18, young adults are expected to entertain themselves...just like "real" adults! They will find others in their age group, and "hang" together...they will have plenty to do. After age 14-15, kids don't want "organized" activities. They tend to spend their time searching out the opposite sex. Edited August 1, 2014 by cb at sea
Seago2 Posted August 1, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 1, 2014 I know it's easy to think of them as being able to entertain themselves, but the truth is that it can be hard, especially as a single young adult, to meet people. My sons (5 of them) always had each other and the youngest, now 16, loves the kids clubs/teen clubs. He is now the only one who sails with us. I dread when he turns 18 and will either be on his own or glued to me talking about azipods and Call of Duty. He has a ton of friends at home and makes friends very easily in the kids/teen clubs (he has friends from last year and the year before he's still in contact with) but what's he going to do when he turns 18? Lurk at the outskirts of bars? Walk up to random large groups of people? I'm either going to have to have him bring a friend or.... I was thinking of starting to sail RC because I thought they had an 18-21 thing going on. Even if they meet for one hour a day- that's all it would take. dancinman66 Posted August 1, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 1, 2014 It is a tough one but if you cruise during summer break then there will be lots if others his age on the ship and won't be as much of an issue In aus they can drink so that helps But not in us Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Guest maddycat Posted August 2, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 2, 2014 Below are links to the cc RCI board and the sub-board for Quantum/Anthem. Ask your question there. The regular RCI cruisers who have children in the 18-21 year age range will be able to answer your question. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=83 http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
jocap Posted August 4, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 4, 2014 As Anthem is sailing from the UK, the 18yr olds will be able to have a drink in the bars. I'm sure, with a brand new ship, there will be so many activities for every age that yours will find enough to do, and enough people to be with! dancinman66 Posted August 4, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 4, 2014 Anthem is likely to have loads of activities they can do but they don't generally organise anything directly for them They usually get in a group and do their own things Greg Sent from my iPhone using Forums
