Questions about lanyards & dining rooms.

We always get a lanyard from the casino and get our card punched in the casino. Have done this on every cruise. I wear a lanyard because I don’t always have pockets and don’t like to carry a purse around the ship.

It's a coil and it's free.

My cruise history includes just 2 DCL cruises. I have a question about lanyards and MDR.

On the DCL magic this May people more or less wore their KT TS cards on lanyards all the time. Can the same be said for the Princess cruises?

Also' date=' on DCL we had rotational dining. Will we be assigned a single MDR if we have selected traditional dining at 6 PM? If so, Will we know before embarking what dining room that is? We will be on the CB if that matters. All of the MDR's serve the same food, correct?[/quote']

Landyards: We don't wear them ... but many on Princess do so you can if you wish.

Dining: Seems you have picked Traditional Dining Early Seating. You will be assigned to the same dining room and table every night. Yes, the food in all of the MDRs is the same.

Have a wonderful time on your Caribbean Princess cruise! :)

Ugh - i just started wearing reading glasses this year. :S

May I ask what you find yourself using the iPhone for on board? As a camera?

I take photos and videos, write a travel blog and upload it to the internet, all from my iPhone.

I pay bills and check accounts, adjust the thermostat and monitor heat usage, and check security webcams at home (we cruise for longer periods of time).

I play games and read books and magazines and research ports. And make phone calls using Vonage and the ship's internet and text friends.

I couldn't travel without it. :)

Like you, I do everything on my iPhone when I travel, from texting to reading CC to checking email to checking my checking account and investments to playing games if I'm bored. Plus, I post to Facebook. I've got weird eyesight and even though I wear glasses, I am very nearsighted in one eye, very farsighted in the other so I usually take my glasses off to use my iPhone.

Wow!

I'd assume it costs a fortune to use internet at sea. Am I wrong' date=' or do you just budget that as a cost in cruising?[/quote']

Once you've reached Platinum status in the past-passenger program (after 5 cruises or 50 days at sea, whichever comes first), you get a certain amount of free internet minutes, depending upon the length of the cruise. So that's why you'll see some veteran cruisers talking about using internet time or why so many of us do Live reviews from the ship.

Internet pricing can be very high when you're looking at just the basic per-minute rate, but Princess offers packages and they're not too extortionate. Have to say that I never used the internet until I reached my free-minute status, though. Rather spend my monies on martinis!

Yes' date=' BFF preferred early dining. I'd prefer later. But not enough to argue. ;)

[b']Is it still easy to see shows around the early dining time? [/b]

Yes! Princess has show times for both. Don't worry! You'll be fine! :)

A little late to the party. I have lots of lanyards as I display badges and similar for conventions and shows I've been to on a wall in my house. For Princess, I prefer to wear a lanyard that is a stretchy cord, it is more comfortable. The card itself goes in a plastic holder with my coffee card (I turn in my minibar setup for same). When I am in my cabin, the lanyard goes on the inside door handle.

The poster who said it's not like Disney with the pins may have spoken too soon. The Australian group I played trivia with a couple of cruises back wore all the pins they got from the Future Cruise consultant up to whatever Captain's Circle status they were on their lanyard. Additionally, Princess was selling lanyards in the gift shop (on the Ocean) with the design being the various Baltic itineraries including the one we were on. It came with a sea witch pin.

I tend to carry my iPhone with me even at sea although I keep it on airplane mode when not in a port where T-mobile's international plan works. If you use the Opera browser, you can save pages for later review, and there are also some games I have that I play.

As for the Princess lanyards, I have never seen the one they give as prizes for sale in the gift shop. I was lucky enough to have a good run of talented teammates on my recent B2B2B and on the last night, gave all the prizes away by leaving them in people's mailboxes (I looked for blue cards, figuring they would value them more). Hopefully they got good homes.

When I was on the Sapphire last year, the menus were different in the 3 dining rooms. We had anytime dining and rotated between the 3. The new offerings each night were the same between the dining rooms but the "get it any night" type of offerings were different. I'm not familiar with the CB dining but will be on her later this month. I also don't do fixed dining for that very reason- to get variety in menus and people.

I use a lanyard when on a cruise because I don't want to carry a purse and if I put the card in my pocket it gets demagnetized. The one I use is a narrow strap with our minor league baseball logo on it.

I don't wear it to dinner in the dining room because I usually have a small bag with me then.

I always wear a lanyard because I don't want to carry a purse onboard. Though I do need to be more careful because at least once or twice a cruise I end up demagnetizing my cabin card on my ipad by accidentally brushing them against each other.

Perhaps I need to get one of those laminated sleeves (rather than just punching a hold in the card) to keep the card safe from being deactivated.

The Diamond and the Sapphire (and only those two ships) have one extra and different menu item in each of the anytime dining rooms. This extra item is the same every night of the cruise.

You can eat in any of the dining rooms (including the traditional dining room) and order the special item that is on any of the four anytime menus.

Like my favorite Canadian' date=' [i']Red [/i]Green always says: Duct Tape it to you arm and you will always have it with you! :D

Unless they come up with a new more exclusive level & color almost half the ship had the same thing so why bother. :p

That's what worried me, so as I generally carry the card and my coffee card in the same holder, I try to arrange it so the black doesn't show.

I wonder what would happen if I made up a fake card in PURPLE with sparkles embedded in it? I could have it say I'm Plutonium level or something. Naturally it wouldn't work for anything but I could wear it on a lanyard and make sure it showed to everybody.

"What? Oh, this? It's um... nothing special. Really..."

I've cruised both Princess and DCL (I did a cruise on the Wonder last year). I found the ships both laid out nicely. Obviously, Princess won't have Disney music piped into the elevators/hallways/etc. Plus, I thought the whistle before announcements on DCL got old very quickly.

Food, to me, was the same quality.

Ooh, you just gave me another reason (besides the higher cost) for not going on a Disney cruise. I would truly start screaming if I had to endure several days of listening to Disney music.
