But why? This like when they set up a pyramid of about 100 champagne glasses and waste about ten bottles of cheap sparkling wine pouring it over it. I always hope for better entertainment than that on my cruises.

It was amazing the time the ship suddenly heeled over and all the glasses went crashing to the floor. I was so mesermized, I didn't get a photo until after they were all down. (no one was hurt)

From what I've read in other posts here this may well be the best use for this particular sparkling beverage. :D

Many people enjoy the balloon drop. If there was a prize in one or two of the balloons it might be better but then you might also end up with a fight over the prize. A number of cheap prizes (maybe a certificate for a free drink or some of that "fabulous" champagne) might be good though.

Frankly, the balloon drop on my recent Alaska cruise (on the Crown Princess) was the liveliest thing I saw while on ship. Two nights I did 11:30pm walk throughs of Skywalkers, and it was dead. Club Fusion wasn't any better. It was lively in the casino late at night, if you didn't mind gagging on the cigarette smoke.:(

After seeing a picture of a balloon drop in a review the other day, I'm looking forward to attending one!

It looked like it was held in the Atrium. But didn't say what time it's held.

Sonoran_cruiser, that's a bummer about Skywalker's, Club Fusion, and smoke in the casino :(:(:(, but I hope you still had an awesome cruise and time in Alaskan ports.

In my opinion, the passing of balloons before the cruise talent shows are much "funnier". More interactive, really gets the crowd going, most everyone is very happy, etc.

Except for the two or three 'grumps' that sit in the middle of the tumult, reading their Kindles.

I saw the same thing once-only the ship didn't heel. One of the workers knocked a glass out of the bottom of the pyramid. There was a "Tinkle" Then slowly, another tinkle...tinkle tinkle tinkle...than when whoosh as the whole thing came down. It was mesmerizing. But afterwords, I never saw so many people move so fast to clean it up and get it rebuilt!
