AdamKnows Posted September 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2014 I think that printing your own luggage tags is dumb! I used to love getting luggage tags in the mail. Printing luggage tags that could be easily be ripped off is a bad way to cut costs. Ending rant in 3...2...1...done!

Lilyrosemum Posted September 24, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 24, 2014 Im always afraid they will tear - we reinforce ours with clear packing tape - then staple on - works well THIS!!!! Works better and is more secure than the luggage tags they sent or the tags the porter gives you.
jackaboo Posted September 24, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 24, 2014 Ive never had any paper tags tear. I actually find them more sturdy then the old sticky tags, as they are folded it makes them a lot more thicker.
buckeye rob Posted September 24, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 24, 2014 I bought some of the clear plastic ones from the CC store. Work great, reusable. Just put them on before handing bags over to the porter.
novicetraveller Posted September 24, 2014 #11 Share Posted September 24, 2014 I am glad they luggage tags are not posted any more. No more worrying whether or not they will arrive. Also they send far too many tags, and it's a waste of paper. I put my luggage tags in a Tag holder and attach it to my luggage.

Clarea Posted September 24, 2014 #18 Share Posted September 24, 2014 How does printing them at home save trees? Still using paper. In fact, I'm using 3 full size (8.5x11) sheets of paper now, where it was less paper before. Sort of like when Royal said the reason they stopped sending a single page of tip vouchers to staterooms to save paper, but still send multiple inserts per day of advertisements for art, spa, etc.
Big_G Posted September 24, 2014 #19 Share Posted September 24, 2014 (edited) Just another 'green' effort that cost somebody their job and had little if no effect. :p Edited September 24, 2014 by Big_G
matj2000 Posted September 24, 2014 #20 Share Posted September 24, 2014 It is a maneuver designed to shift the cost/burden on the passenger. They use the "environmental" route to make everyone feels good about it. I guess it works because people fell for it...
TEXASMUNK Posted September 24, 2014 #21 Share Posted September 24, 2014 Yes, as in moeny, no as in trees! Take some time, you will find more of the USA under forest today than back in 1776! Consider the number of ships, the number of departures, the number of passengers.....multiple the final count by 4, then add postage....You could retire on the one week costs of mailing luggage tags. As long as our money is green, yes, they are saving green!!!!!

As long as our money is green, yes, they are saving green!!!!! From the U.S. Forest Service: Land and Forest Area It is estimated that—at the beginning of European settle- ment—in 1630 the area of forest land that would become the United States was 423 million hectares or about 46 percent of the total land area. By 1907, the area of forest land had declined to an estimated 307 million hectares or 34 percent of the total land area. Forest area has been rel- atively stable since 1907. In 1997, 302 million hectares— or 33 percent of the total land area of the United States— was in forest land. Today’s forest land area amounts to about 70 percent of the area that was forested in 1630. Since 1630, about 120 million hectares of forest land have been converted to other uses—mainly agricultural. More than 75 percent of the net conversion to other uses occurred in the 19th century. In addition, the world is more than the U.S.

I am sure you are totally correct, Bob. Assuming that one attaches the tags after a flight and prior to boarding, do you bring a stapler of some sort with you?
