Hmm...I see an opportunity for Princess to monetize the departure process.

For only $100 per cabin, be the first off the ship. This WILL include luggage service and a personal escort, or course! No charge for passengers in a premium suite.

Carnival already has FTTF (first to the fun) which gets guests onboard early.

I have the same issue as the OP on an upcoming CB cruise. How early should I plan on arriving at the assigned lounge for disembarkation? Is there a better place to position myself in order to be one of the first of the group off the ship?

Thanks you in advance for the advice.

Do NOT do that. You have to do the self disembarkation.... .

Even the self-disembarkation passengers are assigned to a lounge to meet.

I would suggest being there about 10 minutes before the assigned time in case things are going faster than expected.

Any recommendations for a shuttle service from Port Everglades to PBI airport? I could change the return flight from FLL to PBI to more favorable/safe time but need to weigh the costs.

Mark

PBI is my closest airport. Figure cost to be $80-90. For $100, I'll come and get you. :)

Wow! Does this include wine? :D

I've had one of the more involved root canals that I've heard of: when dentist was starting in mid-June, he decided that I needed to first undergo a round of antibiotics. Two weeks later, he decided I needed another round. Then finally he did the procedure. But it was determined that the amount of gum left wasn't enough for the crown so I needed to have gum surgery. But the oral surgeon who worked for that office was only there on Thursdays. I did get my consult with him, but the first avail appointment was a few weeks later. The next Wednesday, I had a message when I got home that someone cancelled for the next day. Fortunately the office was still open when I called and I was booked. My daughter and I had just seen "Mamma Mia" in the theater that day, so when the oral surgeon was injecting the Novocaine, I hummed "Dancing Queen" (turns out he's a major ABBA fan, so he guessed it right away).

Then some time for the that to heal before my original dentist can prep the crown. Two weeks after that, the whole thing was finished in September.

So yes, I would rather get to the airport early and not stress out about making a flight.

I have traveled flown a couple of times the day and two days before Thanksgiving. And have flown on December 22. These have involved LAX and I would always recommend travelers to or from LA pad in time around the holidays. Just think of the congestion of travelers and also those who are coming to pick up or drop off travelers.

We cruised as a party of 4 and all of us were off our ship, (Carnival Freedom) through customs and at the curb in Port Everglades waiting for our departure cab at 7:30 a.m. last year so it certainly is possible. (We did express check out where you don't put your bags out for the porter the night before, instead you keep them in your cabin and just take them with you in the morning and walk off the ship first thing.

Go easy on the packing though as in our case the elevators were really backed up so we ended up dragging all of our heavy, big bags down several decks via the stairs! (Not an easy thing to do.)

We disembarked the Royal Princess last November and made a 10AM flight out of FLL with plenty of time to spare.

Next trip is 11 /8 on Ruby - flight out of FLL on the 15th is once again 10AM.

As posted above, see the thread http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2122759 about Ruby disembarkation Monday.

Well, at the risk of possibly missing the 10:30 AM FLL flight, I've decided to take a 3 PM flight back home departing from PBI. That should give us plenty of time to get there without having to rush. FWIW - I kept having the thought of my father-in-law complaining the entire time if we would have missed the early FLL flight !! If it were just me or the wife and I, there would be no doubt in my mind to have booked the early flight. Not worth the headaches with seven of us travelling. Thanks to all for your input.

Thanks for the update. Now, sit back and watch all the craziness of those fighting to get off. On my most recent cruise, I left the room at 7, had breakfast in the MDR, and gathered my stuff up from the stateroom by 8. Then I grabbed a last minute latte from the international cafe and settled in for a 9:30 disembarkation. Visited with some friends. There was still a long line at Immigrations, but was out the door for a 10:00 pick up. Air travel is stressful enough. Glad you didn't add anymore to the morning. 7 is like herding cats.

Well as one of those who offered up an opinion a few pages back, I am pleased to hear that you made the (correct) decision to sit back and take it easy on your last day....just say 'ahhhhh' and enjoy your cruise. :)
