Has anyone been on the Constellation when they have had a fan appreciation cruise? I just noticed that the cruise I have booked 30 March to 4 April is now an 'Osmond Brothers Fan Appreciation Cruise' Any information about these sort of cruises would be great THanks

Usually you book through a specific TA which will then entitle you to be involved in the various activities with the group. Prices are usually higher.

If you aren't part of the group, you probably won't know they are there most of the time. Occasionally a group like this will book a venue that otherwise would be open to all, for instance, a cocktail party in the Sky Lounge, or a matinee in the theater. It isn't a full charter, so there will be plenty of people on board who aren't part of the group.

In my experience it really depends on the size of the group. In most cases it was difficult for me to realize that there was a larger group on the ship. Everything appeared quite normal. However, I happened to be on a cruise on another line during an Irish Theme Cruise. The group had almost 1000 people and totally controlled the ship. There were times when dinner was delayed and show times adjusted. Only tolerable because I met the leader of the group who got us into some of the special events. I believe that cruise lines ought to make passengers aware of large groups onboard (perhaps more than 20% of the ship) so that informed choices could be made.

A friend did a cruise that was booked by a local religious radio station and had about 30% of the cruise. He said the first night they tried (unsuccessfully) to shut down the bars, the main public floors were basically taken over and again they tried to shut down the casino. By the 2nd night it was made clear by the ship personnel that the bars and casino would remain open. It got to be a us/them sort of uneasy situation. He did have a good time but would have been better without the group.

I was on a ship that about 500 "bikers" were on, they were older and did drink a good bit but overall fit in nicely, another trip had almost a 1000 people playing bingo, they were a hoot but did take over most of the "private" rooms throughout the day (and night).

I wholeheartedly agree that if a group is over 10-20% of cruisers you should be made aware of it when booking, doubt it will happen though.

Hi AUSSIE JEEP,

This is clearly a Group Bookings (vs an outright Charter). This is when a group with a common interest books a large block of cabins on a particular sailing. It is not uncommon for such groups to have organized activities in what otherwise be public venues (Sky Lounge - Pool Deck Parties etc)

You are right to be concerned by an organized Group Booking on your cruise... And to seek out additional info.

At one end you could have a large Group that could change the whole atmosphere of the ship / cruise (an extreme past example of that being The American Girl Cruise, 500 little girls and their dolls (November 2011)... and at the other end The Cdn Legion Cruise, a small handful of Vets sightseeing (2012, 2013, & 2014). And somewhere in the middle, one set up for enthusiasts of a particular sport or activity (such as the middle aged motorcyclists we saw in The Caribbean back in 2013... Or this Osmond Brothers Fan Club)

The key thing to find out is how large a group are we talking about, and what sort of activities they have planned

This info is usually not hard to find by Googling your ship & date... And then if a theme cruise is scheduled it should come up via Travel Agency with loadded additional info. Plus, there is also a website that maintains a list (when folks submit info)

http://themecruisefinder.com/

Hope this helps,

Cheers!

I found the Osmond Brothers cruise by doing a Google search...they have a Facebook page that is attached to a TA. Only three of the group look to be going, Merrill, Jay and Jimmy and according the stats on FB, 72 ppl have confirmed that they are planning to cruise with them.

I looked because I had an interest...I went to see them back in the 70's and was a huge fan of Donny. He's not to far from me tonight as he will be at the National Theatre in DC. So many things to do, so little time! :)

We were on the Eurodam two years ago and almost half the pax were part of a Christian group. Didn't affect us at all. The only thing that was different was that they had the theatre booked during the early dinner every evening for their events. Nice people. Nice quiet cruise.
