tbmrt Posted December 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2014 Read this and would like clarification please. I can't be near smoke or I end up w/a scratchy throat. Does the whole Port side of Resort Deck 12 and whole side of the Resort Deck 12 open to smokers? Seems like alot of space. Thanks Smoking onboard the Celebrity Equinox Smoking on the Celebrity Equinox is prohibited in all suites and staterooms including balconies. Cigarette smoking is allowed on the Port side of the Sky Observation Lounge, the Port side of the Resort Deck (Deck 12), Starboard side of the Sun Deck (Deck 14), and the port side of the Entertainment Deck (Deck 5) where tables, chairs and ashtrays are provided. The Sunset Bar on the Starboard side also has a designated pipe and cigar smoking area. Signs are posted at the designated smoking areas. If in doubt, ask a staff member about where smoking is permitted.
Queen of Oakville Posted December 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 7, 2014 I'm sensitive to smoke and I never had any issues except along the jogging track (deck 15) - by the bar. It seems an odd place to allow smoking. I probably noticed it more at night when walking to/from the kid's club and taking the wrong elevator to deck 15. The smoke-free casino was such a please experience. It was a handful of times (morning walks) that I noticed it people smoking with their coffee or late at night having a drink. But this was on Reflection. I can't say there were a lot of smokers on this sailing (reflection 11-15) and as you know the number of smokers on any sailing will vary from week-to-week, and time of day. chesapeake_traveler Posted December 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 7, 2014 As long as you do not spend time at the Sunset bar, all the way at the top/back of the ship, you will be fine. This is the only area I've seen smokers.

There are marked areas for smoking on Deck 14 next to the Mast Bar as well as an area next to the Sunset Bar on Deck 15. Along Deck 12 there are marked areas where smoking is allowed. Jazzbo Posted December 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted December 7, 2014 There is also a smoking area on deck 12 (pool deck) portside just outside the aft elevators. Our cabin was on deck 12 not far from that area, but we never smelled smoke from our balcony. We did avoid that area and always used the starboard side to walk through the pool area -- easy enough to do.

michaelbyrns Posted December 7, 2014 #7 Share Posted December 7, 2014 I agree, I also have a real problem with the smoke, it bothers my throat and teeth and try to avoid it. Too much smoking on these ships unfortunately. Last cruise, I even had a person smoking on their balcony in the next cabin, just my luck. I smelled smoke and was wondering how that was possible, so I looked over the side and saw ash tray & ciagtettes on their table. I took a photo of it and went immediately down to the third floor to report them. Some folks are just so inconsiderate.

While I agree the guests in the cabin next to you were clearly violating Celebrity's smoking policy how can you justify violating someone else's privacy by not only looking onto their balcony but then photographing it? Like you say some people are just so inconsiderate. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

There are plenty of balconies in plain view........I have looked aft and foward, up and down......it is very easy to see people's tables and chairs without violating anyone's privacy:eek:.....if someone is sitting out there and smoking and it is plain view?......I would say the "no smoking on any balcony" is what would be in violation. MizDemeanor Posted December 8, 2014 #12 Share Posted December 8, 2014 Often times taking photos of another's balcony would take a good bit of physical gyration to croon over and take a shot. That thought creeps me out yet I know people do look to see what they can see because some people are simply snoopers. That's why I keep the privacy sheers drawn in my cabin. I wonder where the ashtray came from though.

michaelbyrns Posted December 8, 2014 #16 Share Posted December 8, 2014 Just to clarify. I am very allergic to smoke and have a real problem with it. I was not able to keep my cabin door open due to the smell. I complained a bunch of times to the cabin stewart who was not able to do anything. One evening the smell was really bad, and early the next morning when I got up the place still had a strong smell. I just looked around and there on the table was a pack of cigarettes and an ash tray that I guess he had made. I grabbed my camera and took that picture and brought it to the front desk. That was the last time I had a problem. You bet I would do it again! Maybe smoke is not as much of an issue for you, but folks like us with respiratory issues cannot be around it. I am not sorry that I precipitated his smoking cessation. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

ShadowzBtlr Posted December 8, 2014 #18 Share Posted December 8, 2014 To the OP, the info you are quoting is, at least, 2 years out of date. As other posters have stated, there is No Smoking anywhere indoors and smoking in cabins and on verandas is prohibited. The following identifies the smoking areas on S-class ships (except Reflection) as of May 2014. Smoking areas on S-class ships (Solstice, Equinox, Eclipse & Silhouette) include the following locations: Deck 12 (Pool Deck) – Port (left)-side only – outside just forward of the mid-ship elevators Deck 14 (Sun Deck forward/mid-ship) – Starboard (right)-side only – outside at the Mast Bar Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck aft) – Port- (left) side only – outside at the Sunset Bar – This is the area where Cigar & Pipe smoking is permitted. Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck mid-ship) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the mid-ship elevators Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck forward) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the forward elevators/Theatre

MizDemeanor Posted December 8, 2014 #20 Share Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) Good for you! Ignore those who think you are violating privacy. It is not like you are jumping on their balcony and peering into their room....Their balcony is open for viewing.... If adjacent balconies were not intended to be private they would all be wide open and with ability to see through the privacy partitions. This is not the case. I don't disagree with the final step the person took, but only to to the extent that they went to guest relations directly. I disagree with an invasive sort of self-policing and evidence gathering that occurred, particularly after asking the stewards to intervene. I think a simple and final guest relations discussion would have sufficed, particularly noting that the stewards had been informed and asked to handle. This is an ongoing issue for Celebrity, they need to develop a more effective internal protocol to address these issues once an incident is brought to their attention, assuming of course they did address it with the adjacent guest and perhaps that guest simply refused to cooperate. It shouldn't matter if a person has allergies or not, smoking on the balcony is simply not allowed. Just like in the casino, in the restaurants, and elsewhere. And the balconies are intended to be private. Edited December 8, 2014 by MizDemeanor

Wine-O Posted December 8, 2014 #23 Share Posted December 8, 2014 Am I correct in something that I read that the Reflection has a different smoking policy than the other ships of its class? It allows smoking in more locations? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk That is not correct. Reflection has basically the same smoking areas as the other S-Class ships. The Pool Deck on Reflection is Deck 14 whereas the other ships Deck 12. My only complaint about Reflection is the smoking section aft on the Pool Deck, 14. With it located back aft, when there is a lot of wind, the smoke goes into the Buffet Area when people enter/exit the sliding glass doors back aft. The only fix for that is on windy days close off those sliders and make folks enter/exit on the starboard side.

If the balcony were private it would be covered on all four sides. Celebrity had the authority to do something about the issue privately with the smoker. I don't follow what happened in your example but if sex was visible and the ship was in port and the authorities have a rule about sex in public, I guess when in another country one better be careful. If you think another guest took pictures of the sexy guys and ran to the authorities about what they saw, then we'd be basically on the same page with the idea of what's a bit extreme. Sloop-JohnB Posted December 8, 2014 #25 Share Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) Lol, I LOVE how some believe that the balconies on a ship are private space. They are not. They are outdoors. Your privacy expectations END at the door to your cabin... Be it the hallway door or the balcony door. Between the location of other Cabins... And their occupants range of view, Celebrity Crew (ie the Cameras on The Bridge), other Ships or Landbased spots, ALL the balconies on a Celebrity Ship are at some point on a cruise visible !!! You want true privacy ? Stay in your cabin... With the lights off and the blinds drawn You smoke on your Balcony, chances are EXTREMELY HIGH that not only is someone going to be able to smell it, that someone is going to be able to see / film your violation (be that a Fellow Pax or the Ship's own CCTv Cameras) And by extension, someone is going to report it, and the Smoker is going to get caught. There are lots of Designated Smoking areas outside on various Decks... So as to be convenient to all those that Smoke. Those that CHOOSE to smoke on their Balconies do so knowing full well they are breaking The Rules... And solely because they are too lazy (self important) to make their way to a Designated Smoking Area. Pax who have REAL HEALTH ISSUES need to have their rights to a smoke free environment upheld. They can easily avoid the Port Side Smoking Areas... They cannot avoid something they may not be 100% sure of where it is coming from. Sorry, but I have little compassion for those that get caught breaking The Rules... No matter how they were caught doing so. Cheers!
