Wonderful Copenhagen 2015 edition

Recommended Posts

A cup of coffee will most likely be around 20 to 40 kroner depending on place and style of coffee.

Breakfast is around 100-150 kroner for a buffet style breakfast.

Lunch can be done for 50-100, a sandwich is just 40-50 kroner and a 1/2 liter bottle of cola fanta etc is around 15-20 kroner depending on where you buy it.

I din´t know how it is elsewere but here 7-Eleven is like the most expensive place to buy coca cola etc unless you use they their offers. (pay 2 and get a reduced price)

If you want a decent dinner + something to drink expect around 150-200 kroner and upwards.

Do most restaurants accept credit cards. The hotel takes credit cards so we just need money for a taxi to the hotel and from the Hotel Bethel to the pier. Will they all take credit cards or should we exchange some money at the airport. Thanks.

Yes they do accept most credit cards, both the restaurants and the taxi has a good tourist business so of course they are prepared to service the tourists the best way possible.

But else ask the taxi driver before you leave.

Danish Viking,

Thanks for all your information. A few questions for you? We are purchasing Copenhagen cards. Arriving on a Thursday evening in June and staying at Crowne Plaza near airport. Looking for recommendation for a place for dinner near hotel not high end? On Friday we are planning a full day...What is the best transportation option using card to get to Nyhavn for canal boat tours to start our day? After tour other sites we are interested during the day suggested by you... Nyhavn area, stroll on Stroget, (Ida Davidson or another suggestion for lunch in this area??)tour Rosenburg, Vor Frelser Kirke Church, and Trivoli that night. What would be best itinerary order in terms of location and transportation? And then transportation back to hotel from Trivoli?

I will get back to you with a reply later when I get the time but just a quick info for anyone celebrating 4th of July in Copenhagen.

Paul McCartney performs at this years Roskilde Festival and he will be on the famous Orange Stage on Saturday the 4th of July, its also the last day of the festival.

A day ticket costs around 900 kroner but is valid for all 30 or so concerts from 6 stages.

Roskilde hasn't announced who plays on what day but by detective work I have posted a list on the Roskilde message board and so far the only artists that she know performs that day is American singer Chelsea Wolfe and German pianist Nils Frahm

You have 2 options

The longest trip but with no change of bus.

https://www.google.dk/maps/place/Unicef+F%C3%A6rgehavn+Nord/@55.714071,12.6189748,448m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x465252b9af094e71:0xe18e422bba7ed610

Take bus 26 towards Ålholm Plads and get off at Rådhuspladsen (town hall square)

https://www.google.dk/maps/dir/R%C3%A5dhuspladsen+(K%C3%B8benhavn)/Hotel+SP34,+Sankt+Peders+Str%C3%A6de,+K%C3%B8benhavn/@55.6770925,12.5649564,449m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x4652530dea98a505:0x60f3210cf98b601b!2m2!1d12.566861!2d55.675485!1m5!1m1!1s0x4652530e5a618fbd:0x474ec5d85ab839d6!2m2!1d12.566788!2d55.678765!3e2

This one is quicker but requires a change of bus.

Take bus 26 towards Ålholm Plads and get off at Georg Brandes Plads, Parkmuseerne.

This one is a little bit tricky.

Your bus turns to the left (right when you look on the map) but 6a doesn´t use this bus stop.

You turn straight ahead over the intersection and the bus stop for 6A is just there, the yellow bus is holding on that bus stop.

https://www.google.dk/maps/@55.6875488,12.5789033,112m/data=!3m1!1e3

From here you take bus 6A towards Rødovrehallen and get off at Jarmers Plads. your hotel is located almost next door.

https://www.google.dk/maps/dir/Jarmers+Plads/Hotel+SP34,+Sankt+Peders+Str%C3%A6de,+K%C3%B8benhavn/@55.678527,12.56428,449m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x4652530e5e1b180d:0x700dd4dd2cd37e78!2m2!1d12.566511!2d55.678283!1m5!1m1!1s0x4652530e5a618fbd:0x474ec5d85ab839d6!2m2!1d12.566788!2d55.678765!3e2

Either way here are the departures from Oceankaj.

Near the hotel you don´t have alot of options

Fields shopping center has some restaurants and they are definitely not high end. :D

http://dk.club-onlyou.com/Fields/Restauranter

The metro from the nearby Ørestad station will bring you directly to Kongens Nytorv, just take M1 towards Vanløse.

Nyhavn and the canal boat tour is just next door.

I highly recommend Ida Davidsen.

Its a short walk from the nyhavn area.

I made a walking route as you can see, I gave you direction for Build A Bear because if I wrote Tivoli it gaves you the wrong entrance :D

https://www.google.dk/maps/dir/Kongens+Nytorv+st+(Metro),+1050+K%C3%B8benhavn/Nyhavn/Ida+Davidsen,+Store+Kongensgade/Rosenborg+Slot,+%C3%98ster+Voldgade,+K%C3%B8benhavn/Rundetaarn,+K%C3%B8bmagergade,+K%C3%B8benhavn/Storkespringvandet,+Amagertorv,+K%C3%B8benhavn/Build-A-Bear+Workshop,+Vesterbrogade/@55.6808009,12.5688945,15z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m42!4m41!1m5!1m1!1s0x46525317956e2adf:0x67a7f566287b63c3!2m2!1d12.585228!2d55.679185!1m3!2m2!1d12.5907716!2d55.6799428!1m5!1m1!1s0x46525318bffe2b0b:0x3f5b002135f8a5ef!2m2!1d12.58809!2d55.684433!1m5!1m1!1s0x4652531b429e531d:0x52359c3345281b3c!2m2!1d12.577269!2d55.685827!1m5!1m1!1s0x4652531083fb9ba1:0xe73a9f6da33ea437!2m2!1d12.57573!2d55.681347!1m5!1m1!1s0x46525310d2ccbc5b:0xc16b315bb9592e9!2m2!1d12.579544!2d55.678809!1m5!1m1!1s0x4652530da4f8a72f:0xaaabcb95c4d3c194!2m2!1d12.565623!2d55.674671!3e2

The airport trains from the central station stops at Ørestad station, usually they departs from track 5 to 8.

About the Vor Frelser kirke, it first opens at 11:00 so you have 2 options.

Delay your trip 2 hours time so you visit Vor Frelser Kirke church before getting to Kongens Nytorv, its just the stop before.

Or get a canal tour and look around Nyhavn before taking the metro one stop back to Christianshavn.

Just take the metro from Kongens Nytorv one stop back so both M1 to Vestamager and M2 to Lufthavnen will do.

https://www.google.dk/maps/dir/Christianshavn+st+(Metro)/Vor+Frelsers+Kirke,+Sankt+Ann%C3%A6+Gade,+K%C3%B8benhavn/@55.6724465,12.5913924,18z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x4652533edabd88cd:0x34c2f0b3c2bf1d88!2m2!1d12.591385!2d55.672054!1m5!1m1!1s0x46525339463aedc9:0xc11801eab74fb42b!2m2!1d12.59421!2d55.672939!3e2

When you are done you just take M1 or M2 towards Vanløse and get off again at Kongens Nytorv.

From there you can walk to Ida Davidsen and restart your walking route.

btw there is a google streetview from the top of the tower.

My husband and I will be visiting Copenhagen for one day, May 14th on our cruise and wanted to take an organized city tour that also includes several of the castles. Any thoughts would be appreciated...Thanks!

Danish Viking ...

We will be staying near the central train station pre-cruise departing on Sat. 6/6. Looking for best use of public transportation from there to cruise pier.

Also, arriving back on Sat. 6/13 and need to get to Crown Plaza. I assume I'd want to take some transportation from the pier to a train station since there's a stop very near Crown Plaza.

I'm a bit confused by Bus 26. Where do you buy tickets for this bus; and where specifically does it depart from the cruise pier?

We will be at Oceankaj pier.

Your option for the trip to the cruise terminal is like this.

Take any northbound train from the central station to Østerport.

Any S-train from track 9 and 10 and most trains from track 1 to 4 will do.

Where it says 26 Holdeplads thats the bus stop for the cruise shuttle

http://www.moviatrafik.dk/Terminalkort/%C3%98sterport.pdf

You just pay a 2 zone ticket and is both valid for the train and the bus.

But remember that day will be busy so make yourself plenty of time.

There are 4 turn around calls so look here were your ship is docked.

Oceankaj

Disney Magic

Serenade of the Seas

Costa Favolosa

Levantkaj

MSC Sinfonia

When you go back to crowne plaza its very simple.

Take the cruise shuttle to Østerport and take any airport and Sweden bound trains from track 3 and 4, there is a departure every 10th minute.

As you already said Ørestad station is located just next to Crowne Plaza.

Buy your ticket at the bus with coins or 50 and 100 kroner bills, its still a 24 kroner 2 zone ticket.

Or you can buy them on your phone.

Danish Viking, your help is much appreciated. Very helpful.

I hope you don't mind if I ask some follow-up questions, as this is all new to me.

1. Are the trains well marked at the central station in English so I will know which train goes to Osterport?

2. When I get off at Osterport, where will I find the bus? And again, it's well marked?

3. Returning after cruise, I buy bus ticket from the driver? Or are there machines or an attended station? Do I need exact change?

4. When I debark at Oceankaj, is it well marked where to find the bus?

Again, thank you so much for your help.

1) If you take the S-train it will only be from track 9 and 10.

Directions on a Saturday is line A for Hillerød, C for Klampenborg and B for Farum.

Every line departs every 10th minute so there should be one every 3-4 minute.

http://www.dsb.dk/Global/Trafikinformation/Kort/Linjef%C3%B8ringskort%20for%20S-tog%202015.pdf

2) I don´t think I can´t make it more clear than the map I posted of Østerport.

But you turn right when exiting the train, walk up to the pedestrian bridge at the end of the platform and turn right and you will find the bus at the end of the pedestrian bridge.

The S-train you are taking arrives at track 5.

http://www.moviatrafik.dk/Terminalkort/%C3%98sterport.pdf

3) You buy by the driver or by your mobile phone.

The driver accept coins and 50 and 100 kroner , I´m sorre that I said bills before, I thought it was the term for banknotes.

4) If you turn on the street view on this map you can to the left of Terminal 1 and 3 see a yellow bus, that is the public bus.

I assume that they also will be parked there this year.

https://www.google.dk/maps/place/Oceankaj,+K%C3%B8benhavn/@55.714307,12.620743,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x465252b848542021:0x5125d6ae3b01baee

The cruise shuttle has no fixed schedule.

Ekstrakørsel på linje 26 / Extra shuttle buses to and from the cruise ship terminal (bus 26)

Bus 26 - When cruise ships dock at Oceankaj (cruise ship terminal) shuttle buses will run between Østerport station (at Folke Bernadottes Allé) and Oceankaj (cruise ship terminal) from 8 AM until 4 PM.

Hi Danish Viking....

I am sure this has been asked before. We are thinking of buying the Copenhagen card. My understanding is that I will need to purchase it online and have it mailed to me in order to take transportation near the port as the cards are only available near the main train station and not available on the buses etc.

Is this correct?

Hello,

We are so looking forward to our first visit to Copenhagen this June, and have found the information in this thread very helpful!

It seems there are a few different ports/piers the cruise lines can use in Copenhagen.

We are on the NCL STAR this Summer and cannot seem to find info about which port/pier NCL uses?

As there seems to be some distance between available ports, we' want to be sure to plan our transport from the hotel to the ship properly.

Can anyone please tell us which port to choose?

THANK YOU!!

Yes that is correct unless you arrive at the airport before your cruise, then you can get it there.

Hello DV,

My first time asking you questions, Thank you in advance!!

We will be arriving on Brilliance of the Seas on Sat June 13th. So it will be shuttle bus to Osterport.

I checked the website & it looks like we will dock at LangelinieKAJ, is that correct?

It looks like Osterport is pretty close. We are able bodied..should we just walk to Osterport?

We are thinking of starting at City Hall Square & making our way down the Stroget.

We want to do an inside visit to Rosenborg, Christianborg (mainly to see the Tapestries),& see Amalienborg Palace & do a canal tour. Oh & we want to see Nyhavn.

Do you have any advice about this itinerary?

I have read about bus 11A, should we use this at some point?

Considering what we want to see would the Red Hop-on Hop-off be advisable?

I'm afraid we will waste to much time stopping at various stops & waiting for the bus.

Can you tell me how often the bus leaves Osterport for City Hall Square?

Chris

Yes Østerports isn´t a long walk but you can take bus 26 from Indiakaj, its only Oceankaj that hasn´t regular bus service in the weekends.

Danish Viking,

I've combed through all the thread and I could use some additional info. My family will arrive on July 15th at the airport. What public transport can we take to get to the Best Western Hebron?

We have about 3 days before our cruise and we have a 9 and 12 yr olds. We plan to hit the highlights with Tivoli, Little Mermaid, Copenhagen zoo and a castle or two. We would also like to go to also go Malmo. Do you think getting a Copenhagen Card is better than getting a HOHO?

I could also use directions using public transport getting from Best Western to port.

When we return we will be staying at the Hilton by the airport. Again, I could use directions using public transport.

Thank you so much in advance. There's nothing like getting a local's perspective.

From Georg Brandes Plads, Parkmuseerne you just take the bus back to Indiakaj, the direction should be Færgeterminal Søndre Frihavn.

Again Lørdag is Saturday.

If you are short of time and can´t reach Rosenborg palace you can cath the bus 26 from Kongens Nytorv instead.

Looks perfect! And great news that we can take the bus from Indiakaj! Could you double check for me that we do dock at Langeliniekaj?

I haven't completely mapped out what we want to do. Considering the distances do you think we would be better off using the Hop-on? Like I mentioned, I'm a little afraid we will waste too much time waiting for the next Hop-on.

The distances don't look far between each other but the total for the day looks like a lot! ha ha.

Are cabs readily available? Is there a point at which you think it might be advisable to jump in a cab?

We hope to be up and on our way early. Is there anything at City Hall Square we should go inside? If I remember correctly there is a cathedral off the Stroget we might want to see?

We may be better off trying to get the first canal tour, doing Rosenborg & Christianborg and then seeing if we have time to wander Stroget and see other sites. Are Christianborg & Rosenborg busiest first thing or later? Or does that matter?

Unfortunately our ship sails at 4pm, so Thank you mentioning the bus stop if we don't have time for Rosenberg!

Considering that we only plan on going on bus 26 and going inside Christianborg & Rosenborg, & doing a canal tour. I'm not sure the Copenhagen card would make sense. I don't care if we lose a little. The convenience might be worth it. Can you purchase tickets for Christianborg, Rosenborg, & the canal tour in advance?

I did test the cc calculator...it did say I won't save anything, but I'm not sure how much I'll be wasting!

Also is there a good map showing the exact stops for bus 26? And a friend mentioned that she got on the DFDS Canal Tour at Homens Kirke, but when I go on their website that does not look possible. Is it?

Thank you so much!

Chris

wow many topics, I will take them one by one. :D

Yes, its Langeliniekaj :-)

Personally I would not use the hop on/hop off bus but that is just my opinion.

I have been in many of Europes large cities and never used these busses, walking and public transportation is way easier.

Gammel Strand is the locations for Strömmas canal tours (the old DFDS canal tour)

Netto Bådene is however using Holmens Kirke, but both locations are very close.

For a route map you just type in 26 here.

To prepay the canal tours, look here.

I´m not sure if you can prepay your ticket to Christiansborg but look here.

A single ticket to central Copenhagen cost 24 kroner oneway so its only 48 kroner for transportation.

Was that all? :D
