Wonderful Copenhagen 2015 edition

Recommended Posts

Danish Viking,

I've combed through all the thread and I could use some additional info. My family will arrive on July 15th at the airport. What public transport can we take to get to the Best Western Hebron?

We have about 3 days before our cruise and we have a 9 and 12 yr olds. We plan to hit the highlights with Tivoli, Little Mermaid, Copenhagen zoo and a castle or two. We would also like to go to also go Malmo. Do you think getting a Copenhagen Card is better than getting a HOHO?

I could also use directions using public transport getting from Best Western to port.

When we return we will be staying at the Hilton by the airport. Again, I could use directions using public transport.

Thank you so much in advance. There's nothing like getting a local's perspective.

Mei-Lin

Isn´t the Copenhagen Card giving you access to the Ho/ho busses?, it does with the canal tour.

From the airpotrt to the hotel you just take the train to the central station (not the metro) and walk from there.

for transport to and from the pier I need info such as ship name and date.

I´m guessing that its the 18th of July but on that day there is 4 ships on 2 locations.

Hi: We are staying at Hotel Bethel and found out the Serenade of the Seas is leaving from the Oceankaj pier. Do you know how far it is from the hotel, do we tell the taxi driver the name of the pier and do you know how long it will take us from the hotel. Thanks for all your info.

6,6 kilometers or 12 minutes by car.

The taxi driver should know where Oceankaj is but I noticed that there was a sign near Folke Bernadottes Allé or Kalkbrænderihavnsgade streets where the shipname will be posted next to the pier location so if anyone was in doubt it should be posted on that sign.

The sign is here.

Is the bus from Indiakaj a shuttle?

Can we just stay on it to City Hall Square?

Is there a specific name for the stop at City Hall Square? When I type City Hall Square into movia, I'm not getting anything.

So in your opinion should we get the Copenhagen Card for the convenience?...I'm having a difficult time figuring how much we would waste for the 24hr card.

Thanks so much!

More questions to come!

Chris

DV - yes the ship is the Regal Princess and departs July 18.

So, using public transport from BW Hebron to Port Cruise would be greatly appreciated.

Also, any thoughts on Malmo - best way to get there and inputs on highlights to do there?

Lastly, we return on 7/29 and need to get public transportation to the Hilton by the airport.

Also, I do not think I can use the Copenhagen Card for the HOHO. I do see we can use it for the canal tours.

Thank you.

No its the regular 26 bus.

Instead of Town hall/city hall square you have to use the danish name and that is rådhuspladsen.

Have you used the calculator.

http://www.copenhagencard.com/?ld=0&_ga=1.50426670.603410233.1426098801

Or else you can buy the 24 hour city pass for 80 kroner.

The city pass covers transportation in zone 1, 2, 3 and 4.

http://www.moviatrafik.dk/dinrejse/kort/zoneoversigt/Documents/Hovedstadsomraadet/1.pdf

The Copenhagen card and the 24 hour transportation card (130 kroner) covers the entire area.

Sorry I was mistaken, its only the canal tour that is covered by the Copenhagen card.

Regarding the Malmö trip the best option is to take the train

It takes 34 minutes from Copenhagen central to Malmö central and 35 minutes the other way and it departs every 20th minutes.

Øresund familie ticket (family ticket in english) only cost 144 kroner oneway and is valid for 2 adults and 3 childrens under 16 years so 288 kroner in total.

Its very important to buy this ticket because if you buy regular tickets it will cost 446 kroner.

There is also a few busses but they only run 8 times a day and it takes 50 minutes but they will only cost 200 kroner.

For Malmö I will say that the city parks and the downtown area is worth a visit but I´m not and expert on Malmö so try this link.

http://malmo.com/

But back to your transport options.

To the pier you just take any northbound S-train from the central station track 9 an 10 and get off at Østerport.

Directions are Farum, Hillerød or Klampenborg, departure every 3-4 minute.

Or any regionaltog, Intercity or Øresundstog train from track 1 to 4, directions are Østerport, Nivå or Helsingør, departures every 3-8 minute.

The cruise shuttle departs from where it says 26 Holdeplads.

Now I´m smart because if you take the regular trains instead of the S-trains they will arrive at Østerport on track 1 and 2 and that is just next door the the cruise shuttle.

http://www.moviatrafik.dk/Terminalkort/%C3%98sterport.pdf

Transport to the Hilton hotel.

Take the cruise shuttle or regular bus 26 to Østerport.

The cruise shuttle departs from the cruise terminals and regular bus 26 from the UNICEF bus stop at 14 and 54 past the hour.

https://www.google.dk/maps/place/Unicef+F%C3%A6rgehavn+Nord/@55.714428,12.617847,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x465252b9af094e71:0xe18e422bba7ed610

From Østerport you just take any airport train from track 3 and 4 and get off at the airport.

Sorry if this has been posted before, but we will be arriving on Celebrity's Eclipse on Monday June 1. I can not seem to find which pier we will be at (http://www.cmport doesn't seem to answer the inquiry).

Secondly, since many attractions are closed on Mondays, any suggestions for late Monday attractions (arriving at 4PM) would be appreciated. We will be staying overnight, but leave on Tuesday at 4. Limited time to see this wonderful city!

Many thanks.

Your ship will be docked at Langeliniekaj

One of my suggestions will be to start at the Zoo or The Blue Planet aquarium and then finish off in Tivoli. Both places opens until late during the summer.

Or take the bus 26 to Kongens Nytorv, take a canal tour from Nyhavn.

Then stroll along strøget and end up at Tivoli.

You can take the bus directly from the pier, its Bus 26 towards Ålholm Plads.

The good thing about ending up at Tivoli is that when its getting dark (and that is very late during this time of the year) you will see all the beautiful lights.

Luckily Tivoli is located below street level so the light almost has the full effect from around 9 pm or so, the sun sets around 10 pm and the park closes around 11 pm.

You can then take bus 26 back to Langelinie (direction Søndre Frihavn) but at that time it will drop you off at Indiakaj just at the bottom of Langelinie pier.

The bus both departs from the central station (Vesterbrogade above the train tracks) or from the town hall square (HC Andersens Boulevard just begin Tivoli)

DAnish Viking,

Wonderful thread. You are helping so many of us travelers. We are staying at the Adina apartments.

What would be best option coming from airport?

What is best option to arrive at Ship, Oceania Marina June 27?

Is town square within walking distance from Adina? We are big walkers.

Thanks for your help.

The best options are.

Take metro line M2 towards Vanløse and get off at Kongens Nytorv.

From here you take bus 26 towards UNICEF, Færgehavn Nord or Færgehavn Nord.

That bus departs at 19, 39 and 59 past the hour.

Or take the Øresundstog train towards Helsingør or Nivå and get off at Østerport.

From here you can take the same bus or walk.

The bus departs at 10, 30 and 50 past the hour.

No matter if you take the bus from Kongens Nytorv or Østerport you just get off at Pakhusvej.

https://www.google.dk/maps/dir/Pakhusvej/Adina+Apartment+Hotel+Copenhagen,+Amerika+Plads,+K%C3%B8benhavn/@55.6982295,12.5919189,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x465252e76d3e208f:0xb1fe563d39c0010d!2m2!1d12.594815!2d55.698488!1m5!1m1!1s0x465252e73d6060df:0x1168daa6c4c24915!2m2!1d12.593647!2d55.697965!3e2

If you scroll a little bit out you can see Østerport station.

The 27th is a Saturday so no

regular bus 26 to Oceankaj where your ship is docked.

So either you take bus 26 towards Ålholm Plads and get off at Østerport station, Sløjfen from where the cruise shuttle departs departs or you just walk.

The bus departs at 02, 12, 22 , 32, 42, 52 past the hour

Both the bus and walking takes 8 minutes because the bus has to stop at Indiakaj first.

The cruise shuttle has no fixed departure so you just take the next available one.

Dear Danish Viking,

First of all, let me thank you on behalf of all who have benefitted from your willingness to share your knowledge on this board. You represent Copenhagen very well indeed.

My question is regarding larger taxis that would accommodate 4 passengers and cruise luggage, (probably 5 suitcases). Are they generally available on the street? Is it better to call and reserve? What would the approximate cost for one be from the Best Western Hebron to Oceankaj? We will be traveling on a Saturday.

Thank you in advance.

Linda

No it burned down last year or something like that.

Luckily there was only structural damage so all the nothing on display was destroyed.

Some funds and the government has allocated alot of money to build a new museum and a architecture competition is underway.

I can't remember when the winner is announced but I think the completion date for the new museum is in 2017.

Thank you. I think we'll take a chance and see if there is any availability when we're there. We'll be lucky if there is but you never know. There's always next time..... [emoji4]
