bluegirlum Posted January 9, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2015 What events (open to everyone) on board have free drinks? I know the Captain's reception does, but is there anything else? I can't remember.
bighairtexan Posted January 9, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2015 There are several options, especially if you're Diamond or above or in a suite. An officer's reception. The Diamond and/or Concierge lounge. OH and there is usually champagne at the art auctions (or at least I guess so... haven't even walked by one in years). A liquor tasting/sampling at the sale tables by the shops.
Clarea Posted January 9, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2015 Repeater's party.

Ah, yes, the art auction. Never been to one of those. I'm just an Emerald in a balcony cabin, so Diamond/Concierge lounge aren't an option. Just wondering what's available because a friend who's never been on a cruise asked me--and I can't remember which are C&A events and which are "regular" ones. Langley Cruisers Posted January 9, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2015 --and I can't remember which are C&A events and which are "regular" ones. Any Past Guest party will offer the free drinks but since your friend is a first time cruiser, it looks like the Captain's Reception is his/her event. Ken at the beach Posted January 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 9, 2015 The liquor tasting on the Freedom over Christmas was great. They had probably about 15 different bottles that you could sample from and they we're encouraging you to try them all. Been on some ships and they have only had 2 or 3 bottles available to sample. hamrag Posted January 9, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 9, 2015 Repeater's party. Is this also held on short cruises, or is it only 7 day + cruises? Thanks.
Clarea Posted January 9, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 9, 2015 Is this also held on short cruises, or is it only 7 day + cruises? Thanks. Depends on the ship. Sometimes they hold one for Platinum and above, sometimes it's for all levels.

I'm Emerald, and there was one for us on our 3 night Majesty cruise last year.
Rare BillOh Posted January 9, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 9, 2015 Repeater's party. The official ones and some ships do one sailaway on the bow for the upper tier level C&A (We got invited on Jewel as Emerald)

CntPAcruiser Posted January 9, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 9, 2015 On all the previous cruises I recall, the art auctions or other art-related receptions that served champagne did so without restriction (on Adventure they even had chocolate-dipped strawberries, too!). Most recently, on Explorer in November 2014, you had to sign up with the art company and get a bid packet that included a ticket for champagne. No thanks! Definitely not worth it for the cheap sparkling wine (and suspect "art").
derbygirl520 Posted January 10, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 10, 2015 The officer's reception (open to all), the C&A (which your friend can join you at if you are C&A), and I think there is a Plat and above reception as well are put on by the ship. I believe on 7 day+ sailings they are considered separate events. (Can someone that's cruised more recently verify this?) Of course, the shop tastings and the art auctions! Weeee! DG Can vary with ship, but there are usually two repeater's parties on cruises of 7 days or longer, one of which is for Platinum and above.
