Your thoughts on a Snow Room on a cruise ship

As part of a spa, this makes sense because snow rooms have been a big trend in high end spas all over the world since 2008. There's already a snow room at Caesar's Palace QUA Spa in Las Vegas for instance and QUA Spa is considered the best Spa in Las Vegas, one of the top 100 best spas in the USA and also one of the top 100 best spas worldwide. The snow room at QUA Spa has been very popular with spa guests. It's a proven concept. So, I can see why, when NCL is trying to build a world class spa experience on their ships, they would choose to include the snow room. For those who don't want to go to the spa or use the snow room, please feel free to avoid it. That just leaves extra room for those of us who do enjoy spas and feel that a great spa is an important part of a relaxing vacation experience.

Am I wrong to think that Escape is going to be a Megaship? Mega ships with their "amusement park" feel and high end spa just don't go together to me. Please tell me that this is going to be a small, elegant ship. I have been waiting for the day that a main stream line went back to that.:)

Well, they already have an "Ice Bar", but I escaped from New Jersey to Florida to get away from the cold and snow (among other things), and hope to never see the stuff again!

Hey, how about a monsoon room? An earth quake room? What will Sheehan and his crew think of next?!! :D

That's how I felt when Universal in Universal City (they call it Hollywood, but it's really located in the San Fernando Valley) was adding an earthquake feature to its tour. How many Californians were flocking to the tour after that? And when I was going there for an event, a friend and I skipped past the entrance (where you get on the next tour bus) so we can go directly to the venue. One of the guards there was puzzled why we didn't want to go on the tour, but we pointed out that we've been through too many quakes (and that was even before the 1994 one) to experience one voluntarily.

I've only lived in the snow through two winters in the Midwest while attending college, but I can see why many would have the same feeling about this room, which to me seems like some unnecessary gimmick.

No interest myself but I hear it is attached to the spa and has some sort of healing properties.

eta:

Just did a random google search and found this information on a Snow Room elsewhere

"After passing through the cool anti-room with experience shower one walks into the circular refreshingly cold Snow Room to enter into arctic freshness. The Snow Room has chilled air and walls and has a heated floor allow one to sit down on the benches surrounding the ice fountain to cool down the body temperature. The ice fountain, where you’ll find ice flakes falling into a sculptured bowl is a perfect after thermal experience. Rub your heated body with the cold ice and enjoy a wonderful stimulating tingling on your skin. This animates your blood circulation and strengthens at the same time your immune system. Rub ice on cellulite prone areas to stimulate circulation and help eliminate cellulite. This unique refreshing experience stimulates circulation."

Still not my thing, but I could see those with cellulite or circulation issues interested if NCL's snow room is similar.

How many acres of land does Caesar's Palace sit on?

How can one compare the amount of space to any cruise ship? :D

It isn't like Steiners runs such out of this world fabulous spas.

Does RCI have Steiners?

Don't hold your breath. Want a real ship instead of amusement park that floats? You need to look at premium and luxury cruise lines or make the switch to crewed yacht charters.

As for "high end" spas, it all boils down to the staffing. I'm no expert but common sense says that the best stylists and masseuses, etc. are not going to be interested in working on a ship. How many women who can go to well established salons at home would trust a stranger on a ship to cut their hair or do anything else that spas or salons offer?

Celebrity and HAL are two premium lines that are nowhere near being floating amusement parks. No water slides, no rock climbing, no pool side jumbo trons, no shopping mall type restaurants. And at competitive prices. You don't need to go to luxury lines to avoid those less-than-elegant features.

How many acres Caesar's Palace sits on has no bearing on having a snow room any more than the size of, say the NCL Escape having a sauna… The room isn't acres big. Other places have the snow room (search online) and they aren't mega-resorts.

As for Steiners, Mandara spas aren't anything to sneeze at. I used the one at the Mauna Kea hotel and the Hilton Hawaiian Village hotel in Hawaii - extremely nice spas. I had excellent treatments, a very relaxing time, and I wasn't given the hard sell for product. Yes, the old image of Steiner on ships is a poor one. But, Mandara started out on it's own as a high-end spa company in some very good hotels around the world. They were acquired by Steiner. Any corporate spa will push product - it's happened at every spa I've visited (Golden Door, Bliss, Remede, Mandara), but it's how they do the push that matters.

I can only guess that you have never been to Las Vegas, otherwise you would recognize that Las Vegas is what NCL is attempting to emulate with their mega ships - not an amusement park - think about it, many Las Vegas hotels even have a water park. (I agree that RCCL is trying to emulate an amusement park with their Boardwalk and various neighborhoods.) Las Vegas is widely known for having some of the best spas in the world. So yes, and elaborate spa and Las Vegas are highly compatible so this makes perfect sense for NCL to have the two together on their mega ships.

NCL's entertainment was better 5 years ago than it is now and the casino's are not that impress us. I don't think that the big hotel/casino's in Vegas would be happy with the comparison.

My last cruise was with celebrity and we were very happy with it. We don't think that we are mature enough just yet for HAL though.

The spa at Caesar's is large, mostly for treatment rooms and the gym, but Quo's snow room is about the size of the average dry sauna. At any rate, the snow room has proven so popular that 2 other Las Vegas hotels are adding a snow room to their spas.

You have to be kidding. Is it April 1 already? This is the dumbest most stupid idea idea for a cruise ship feature every thought of.

What next -a Titanic room where they simulate a sinking ship which ends up with you being dumped into a pool of icy cold water and letting you drown - or have they already thought of that idea?

Agreed, sounds pretty lame to me. I cruise so I can get away from snow. I want Hot, hot, hot. Except my stateroom please.

Just gimme a cabin and get out of my way.

Oh wait, I want the cabin with a private pool. Not a hot tub, I have that at home, I need my own pool. Please. Can't be any more difficult than a snow room.

Why not - it makes as much sense as skating rinks, bumper cars, etc.? I cannot wait to plan to avoid such ships.

I think that on a mega ship it makes less sense than ice skating rinks and water parks. I think that it belongs on a small high end ship if on any ship.

So NCL is going to have a Snow Room on the Escape. Looking out my window I can honestly say....Are you kidding me!!!

Anyone looking forward to this?

Celebrity has them in their Persian Garden (thermal suite) area. It's actually very nice to go from room to room (hot-dry/hot-steam/aromatherapy/cold). Very relaxing.

Are you serious? Good grief, come up here to the "frozen tundra" and you can see snow at least 6 months of the year! I wonder if they will be adding the wind chill factor to it as well - this morning we are at a balmy -39C wind chill, but a few days ago we peaked at -50C. Uh, no, we won't be partaking of the "Snow Room".

Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

OMG...........and I was complaining about how cold it has been in New Jersey.

My jaw clenched and my shoulders tensed just reading the word "cold". I just find nothing relaxing about a snow room. Snow equals shovelling to me!

This snow room as you call it is a great idea, and after reading all the bad reasons not to partake in something that will be in the spa area. 95% of the cruise attendance don't go to the spa, its like the rock climbing wall...what is that for and do you tell them to take it down.

As the above poster says, its a great idea and those of us who have felt the relief of the hot tub cold water plunge

Im sorry, we lived in Alaska for 9 years, -40 is not a joke to "live in" thru winter but -40 be it a drink bar or spa room is another issue.

I have pictures of our son who was born in April and by 8 months old he was hot tubbing and playing with snow with the rest of family... OK truth be told he is 25 years old now and sounds like most of you when its cold here in Va.

another reason the spa area relaxing less people,
