Do you tip the taxi driver in Grand Cayman?

We got back today from the Carnival Paradise. One of the stops was Grand Cayman, and I noticed something interesting, and would like some other people's take: my DH and I took a taxi from the pier to Royal Palms for $4 each. Another couple was in the taxi with us. When we got out, the couple paid the driver $8. I paid $10, which included a $2 tip. The same thing happened on the way back to the pier.

 

Are you not supposed to tip in GC? Is it built into the fare? A few other people I spoke to on the ship said they paid only what was quoted. I don't regret paying a few extra dollars; I'm just curious what the proper protocol is.

The other couple was cheap. We always tip our driver.

We always tip the driver unless service is inadequate.

We tip cab drivers everywhere....but in GC, we take the bus!!! Much cheaper, and no tipping needed!

unless I have bags or packages to load I never tip a cab driver just for driving me from point a to point b. that's what the fare is for.

We always add on a tip.

Since it is the practice to tip waiters, etc. 15-20% in the Caymans, I would extend that to cab drivers as well, as I would do in the US.

I always tip taxi drivers. The fare goes to the company he works for.
