Canadian cruisers!!

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the response. I will call RCCL tomorrow to book in Canadian dollars instead of booking online in U.S. dollars. Boy do I miss when our dollar was at par!

You can book on line in CDN$ as well.

Just scroll down to the bottom of the home page and there is a spot to the left to change country.

You can book in Canadian dollars online.

While on the Royal Caribbean main webpage, scroll down to the very bottom of the page . In the left corner, there is a drop down bar that allows you to change the website to CANADIAN -

Is the booking rate for the cruise at a lower exchange rate or just the OBC

Just the OBC is at 10%.

Cruise fare in Canadian is about 30% higher than US rates. Who knows where our dollar is going to be going forward. I'm just happy that we have 5 booked up to March of 2017, before our dollar dropped.

So does this mean with a credit card account and pre-purchased OBC, you can still withdraw the remaining OBC at Guest Services? I sure hope that's right! Would save me from having to do a cash account and dealing with that hassle!

It has worked for me on three cruises and no questions asked. I went to guest services the afternoon of the day before we were to depart and withdrew all cash on the obc (US funds) and my credit card was still on file to cover a couple of drinks that night.

Has anyone had any success being able to take advantage of the reduced (50%) deposit while booking in Canadian funds via the website? I always have to call in to get the reduced deposit.

Royal has never programmed thw website to take less than full deposits.

I booked our march break 2017 on Anthem last November 30th Online in CDN funds and was only charged $530 deposit for 2 balcony rooms. I believe that was only 50% deposit since today, our friends that are joining us were told that the deposit for 2 rooms was going to be $1060.

But on he other hand, I would not be suprised at all if Bob was right.

I was told by RCI that I had to call if I wanted to take advantage of the 50% deposit when booking in CAD. In the past, when I have booked online during a sale which advertises reduced deposit, I have just paid the regular deposit amount. For me, I find it easier doing it myself online than calling Royal. ;)

I always call RCI to place a deposit, and to make final payment. Not sure why, I just do....

As Clarea stated, the RC website is not set up to recognize when there is a reduced deposit offer. In fact, the RC website since it's "update" has become annoying to use, especially to search available cruises/staterooms. JMHO.

Was told that my sailing on harmony (May 22 2016 [?!]) was too far out and the system wont allow him to add OBC. Told to try again in 2 weeks.

Seems strange as I was able to buy OBC for our March Allure cruise 6 months ago. Like e erythronium with Royals customer service department....call back...you'll get a different answer.

Which number did you call....Gifts and Gear or C&A?

I agree. I've bought OBC in August for my cruise this March.

I bought 2 blocks of $500 each for our cruise of March 2017, and that was a month ago. Maybe the folks working the New years weekend are the "Substitutes" :p

Thanks to all of you for helping me with this! I just called, got the email confirmation! $499 (that's the max they allowed me to add to obc) and it cost $548!!! That's just insane!!!! Wow!

I wonder if I could add more than the $499 if I call again another time before my cruise or if the $499 is the absolute limit?

Thank you all so much!!!

Barb :)

You can call an add another $499 or $500 depending on the agent you get helping you. You can do this many times.

Call back as often as you wish. It may depend on who you get answering the phone but many of us have bought much motors than $500.

Forgive me if this has been asked/answered; the thread is too long to go searching. We are booked in CAD, have purchased OBC at the 10% great exchange rate, and intend to use some of it onboard, either through onboard purchases, or cash from casino. For any OBC that is left, I understand that if there is a credit card on the account, it can be refunded to the card. We have a US dollar credit card that we normally use for onboard expenses. If we choose to not set up our account as cash, would they refund the remaining OBC in US funds to that card, or would they process the refund in CAD to the US card? Any Canadians out there have experience using a US funds card and using it for refund of the OBC? Thanks.

Any refunds to a credit card will be processed to that credit card in US$ as long as you set it up that way. You have the option to select which method during your on line check in.

I always check in on line with a CDN credit card and also elect to have them post in US$ to my account. Once at the pier I change credit cards and give them my US $ card.

Yes, a US dollar credit card is what we use.

Just make sure that you DO NOT check the box that allows Royal to do conversions. Just check the the box that allows your credit card company to take care of conversion fees. Royal adds addition fees .
