IndyDenise Posted January 31, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2015 There are threads on the Carnival Cruise Forums that say if you reach your 15 drinks a day with the drink package you are done. You can't even buy anymore, your sail card won't even work to purchase a drink. No more. Cut Off. Begone with your butt. Keep cruising on past the bars, we don't want your money type cut off. Has anyone experienced the same with HAL ?

Krazy Kruizers Posted January 31, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 31, 2015 As far as I know, no one here on the HAL board has drunk 15 drinks with the Drink card and then tried to buy another drink with their regular ID card. I know that neither of us could drink that much.
take us away Posted January 31, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2015 OMG - 15 drinks in one day and then trying to get more - another reason why we stay will HAL as fewer 'frequent imbibers' and will not even consider Carnival
cruiseing marly Posted January 31, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Of course you will be allowed to buy beverages if you would be served normally . Do you not think they would want your money! If you were to intoxicated you will be cut off with or with out the card .You need to remember there are a lot of beverages you can order that do not have alcohol . KevInPitt Posted January 31, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 31, 2015 I believe, based on the Signature Beverage Package terms and conditions, there is a similar 15 drink maximum imposed. Although I have no direct experience, I suspect it would be a similar hard cut-off as with Carnival's package as HAL is owned by CCL.
Alberta Quilter Posted January 31, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 31, 2015 IIRC, POA1, in his thread about the SBP, spoke about this situation. I believe that someone in his group did max out the SBP, and used his regular room key to get additional beverages. Remember, the 15 drink limit includes ALL beverages, alcoholic or not. I didn't say I was going to drink 15 ALCOHOLIC drinks. Between Diet Cokes, Bottled water, specialty coffees and adult beverages I could easily do 15 a day. My Coke Zero daily allowance alone would freak people out more than their thoughts of someone drinking 15 alcoholic drinks a day. IndyDenise Posted January 31, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted January 31, 2015 My guess is that on the carnival board they weren't talking about having 15 soft drinks a day. Well someone there mentioned that they could not get any paid drinks past the 15. I don't know how the system would let someone know if 12 cokes were purchased and 3 beers. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Well, it is called a computer and its attached to all the card terminals on a ship. So every time you get a drink (whether on a package or paid) your cruise card (or cabin number) is entered into the onboard central computer system. So yes, they not only know how many cokes you drink, they can tell you where you got that coke, who served it, what time it was dispensed, etc. "Bit Brother" is indeed watching and tracking all your habits :). Sent from my iPhone using Forums I'm having a very hard time believing any cruise line would cut anyone off from buying drinks unless they demonstrated that they were drunk. I'm willing to bet hal won't unless a person is drunk. I would think they could easily see what you've purchased.

You recall correctly. My brother and SIL had an issue with their SDP card and were out of drinks early one night and just switched to their room cards. And you are correct it's easier then you think to go thru 15 drinks especially if you count sodas, water, coffees and cocktails. Sent from my iPhone using Forums My comment about the alcoholic/non alcoholic drinks was more directed at the posters who were horrified at the thought of 15 drinks in a day, but I recognize that it came across as being directed to you. For that, I apologize. Just a thought about your Coke Zero daily allowance, perhaps you might consider a soda or beverage card for those purchases. Or just put some or all of them on your room card anyway. Then you'd be using the SBP for the more expensive beverages and your other card for your less expensive beverages. Or was that what you were planning to do, anyway, which prompted the question?

Rare Vict0riann Posted January 31, 2015 #17 Share Posted January 31, 2015 We "heard" that someone on our cruise exceeded his 15-drink limit, and was warned that additional drinks would be charged to his on-board account.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums I think some of the confusion came with your statement above about "keep cruising on past the bars" I really don't think hal would "cut you off " especially if your total drinks of 15 included non- alcoholic and alcoholic. Now if were 15 alcoholic and you were showing signs of being overly intoxicated security may offer to escort you to your cabin just so they know you got there safely. I really don't think HAl or anyone else cares if you wish to consume 15 or 150 non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks a day. (especially hal who will benefit by the purchases)

Rare POA1 Posted January 31, 2015 #21 Share Posted January 31, 2015 We "heard" that someone on our cruise exceeded his 15-drink limit, and was warned that additional drinks would be charged to his on-board account. Since it's a separate card, it simply runs out for the day, and your server will ask for your room key instead. We had some accounting problems when we used the SBP. In trying to fix them, drinks from a prior day, that should have been counted against the prior days total, wound up getting charged to the current day. This caused at least one member of our party to run out at the pool in the afternoon. Apparently, he was working with a maximum of 6 beverages for that day. I would imagine that they might cut you off for being drunk and obnoxious, but definitely not because of a certain number of drinks. We usually had two or three bottles of water a day. Throw in a coffee from the Explorations Cafe, and a cappuccino or espresso at dinner, and you've already gone through one third of your allotment without a drop of alcohol. KirkNC Posted January 31, 2015 #25 Share Posted January 31, 2015 The cut off limit is about money, what a shock. As to whether you can keeping drinking whatever you want with your regular account it would depend on your behavior.
