Joann12 Posted February 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2015 I have been checking hotels in Rome for a stay prior to taking a cruise in September. Does anyone know if you have to pay in full or can you just make a one night deposit? We are staying 4 nights and all the hotels seem to require full payment when making a booking. I know that some are cheaper if paid in full and are non-refundable but I not looking at those. We usually stay at Marriotts and just give a cc to hold deposit. Thanks. Rare Keith1010 Posted February 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2015 At most hotels in Rome you just have to provide your Credit Card as you would at any American Hotel. For example, since you mentioned Marriott you just need to provide your CC. No deposit. Keith
CruiserBruce Posted February 3, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2015 Actually we have had credit card holds, and very small- far less than one night's rate- deposits for rooms. But never the full booking fee.
CatlinSTJ Posted February 3, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 3, 2015 That seems strange. Most of the hotels and inns we booked on our previous (land) trip required one night paid as a deposit ahead of time and a few wanted cash for the final payment when we arrived or checked out. (This is typical in Venice.) Rome, actually, was the only hotel in Italy where we paid with credit card either at arrival or checkout. Rare Turtles06 Posted February 3, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 3, 2015 We stayed at the Albergo Cesari in Rome this past October for three nights, and all we had to provide up front was a credit card number to hold the reservation, just as we would in the U.S.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted February 3, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 3, 2015 Unless I was taking advantage of a booking special, I haven't ever paid either a deposit or the full amount in advance for a hotel in Rome (and I've stayed in at least 6 different ones over the years....) agabbymama Posted February 3, 2015 #7 Share Posted February 3, 2015 The only time I was asked for a deposit or payment in Advance for Italy was when I searched for apartments. I finally booked just hotels rather than the apartments for that reason. Check out venere dot com as they offer "pay when you stay" option, then also check the hotel website itself. I'm sure you will find a hotel without having to pay in advance. Have fun planning, then taking your trip!
