Oak Hill Cruisers Posted February 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2015 Just wondering how PAX felt about the NCL ship hull paint jobs. They are over the top funky & colorful. Old timers must think that the graphics mar the lines of the ships. I sort of like it, do you?

Old timers must think that the graphics mar the lines of the ships. I sort of like it, do you? I like the paint jobs on some of the ships I've seen, including Breakaway, Getaway, and even Epic, but thought the paint job on the Gem was hideous when I saw it in person. Can't win 'em all I guess. triptolemus Posted February 24, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2015 It's easy to dislike the hull art when you're watching the ship sail by from the parking lot. All I can tell you is that you can't see the hull art from the pool deck bar...
ColinIllinois Posted February 24, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2015 I don't really care one way or the other. When I'm inside the ship it doesn't matter what shape the ship is or paint job the outside has. Edited: I will admit though that I found that Peter Maxx paint job hideous. :D
Rare KeithJenner Posted February 24, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2015 To be honest, I couldn't really care less, and wouldn't be able to tell you what the artwork was on most ships. Except for the Breakaway, which I really thought was a joke when I first saw it. :)
Administrators Rare CC Help Michell Posted February 24, 2015 Administrators #7 Share Posted February 24, 2015 I love the NCL hull art! I think it's distinctive and fun. I also appreciate the classic lines and colors on some other lines (HAL's ships always stand out to me, for instance), but NCL's ships make me smile. :)
bluesea777 Posted February 24, 2015 #8 Share Posted February 24, 2015 I love the paint job on hull of each of the NCL ships - they grow on me (especially the Breakaway). It is fantastic to walk back to the ship looking at the hull art during each port of call. My fave is the SUN. Each of the NCL ship has art to match their name. Another cruise line has the bold hull paint job - it's AIDA, but I only have seen one or 2 - need to see more of them and study them (with the ship name). I get unimpressed when I see plain painted ships, ha ha.

Barb Nahoumi Posted February 24, 2015 #11 Share Posted February 24, 2015 Other cruiselines run nondescript white ships. NCL ships stand out in the crowd. I like most of the hull-art.
DMH15 Posted February 24, 2015 #12 Share Posted February 24, 2015 I love the hull art. In November I was in Belize tendering from the Carnival Magic when Lo and behold I see the NCL Sun! My favorite ship. It made me smile.
DevCruise Posted February 25, 2015 #13 Share Posted February 25, 2015 I love the hull art with the exception of the Away class ships. Simpler was better in my opinion.
Rare kjquilts Posted February 25, 2015 #14 Share Posted February 25, 2015 I love the hull art on Norwegian ships. The Sun might be my favorite - it is so colorful. Norwegian ships made me happy - inside and out :)
aquarianne11 Posted February 25, 2015 #15 Share Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) I know not everyone likes the hull art of the Breakaway, but I think it’s wonderful! It’s FUN and HAPPY! I love looking at NCL ships. They are like floating artwork. :) Edited February 25, 2015 by aquarianne11

MsJ Posted February 25, 2015 #18 Share Posted February 25, 2015 I love the hull art. The first ship we sailed that had the hull art was the Jewel. I loved it. It was fun when walking around the deck to look at. The second is the Breakaway..last February and again this coming Sunday. I am not a big Peter Maxx fan but to me NYC is the most exciting city in the world and I love that the Breakaway displays some of the best parts of it. This will be our 5th time cruising from NY harbor. Its been just as exciting each time. The Jewel and last year's Breakaway was the third week in February. on the Jewel departure it was freezing......but I bundled up in layers..many layers and went out of my balcony for a freezing departure but nothing can beat sailing by the Statue of Liberty to make one appreciate our country. funat55 Posted February 25, 2015 #20 Share Posted February 25, 2015 Count me in as another admirer of the hull art. The designs are so colorful and whimsical and identify the ship immediately as a NCL member. Makes me want to see what the inside of a ship is like that is so distinctive on the outside. Arizona Packer Backer Posted February 25, 2015 #21 Share Posted February 25, 2015 (edited) I mostly like the hull art. My favorite is the Star - it's not overdone, and she looks like she's smiling! :D Of course, I could be biased. I'm sailing on the Star next month... Rare sprint180 Posted February 25, 2015 #22 Share Posted February 25, 2015 I think the Jade, Jewel, Breakaway and Getaway are ugly. I like the Epic the best. I prefer simple. I used to hate the ncl ships but now I think the plain white are boring. Guess my tastes have changed.

pengu1n Posted February 25, 2015 #24 Share Posted February 25, 2015 I too love the distinctive artwork on the NCL ships! It is always easy to tell that it is a NCL ship, even if you don't recognize which one. On our last cruise, we were parked alongside a RCL ship, but couldn't find the name anywhere nor was there anything special about the appearance of the ship. The only reason I knew it was RCL was that I recognized their logo.
