Rare Essiesmom Posted February 25, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2015 Pan Pacific is the closest. The pier is right beside it. EM
sfaaa Posted February 25, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2015 Very nice hotel but expensive. It all depends on your budget and amount of luggages. Any hotel close to a skytrain station should work since the Waterfront skytrain station is only half a block from cruise terminal.
borasue Posted February 26, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 26, 2015 We heard good things about Best Western Plus Downtown, so that's who we've booked with. Plus, they offer a free shuttle to the ship. :p
Rare martincath Posted February 26, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 26, 2015 We heard good things about Best Western Plus Downtown, so that's who we've booked with. Plus, they offer a free shuttle to the ship. :p Interesting - is that a cruise-specific package? A lot of folks tend to ask about hotels with shuttles and they're generally very few and far-between... and just to clarify, when you say BW+ Downtown, do you mean the one on Drake (as opposed to the BW+ Chateau Granville or BW+ Sands)? OP - there are a lot of threads about Vancouver hotels on both West Coast Departures and Canada boards. A super-quick summary is that ANY downtown hotel is convenient for the port and virtually all tourist attractions - it's almost impossible to be more than 2 miles away from the pier and the vast bulk of hotels are within a mile of it. Cost tends to be the biggest issue locally - it's easy to see even modest hotels (Hampton Inn level) going well north of $200 a night in peak cruise season. If you're comfortable with bidding sites, any 4* or better Downtown of West End hotel is guaranteed to be outside our entertainment district - which is well-policed and not dangerous, but definitely loud and the partying goes pretty late, so if you want a nice quiet hotel it's best to avoid Granville Street. The hotel referenced above does border on it, but is a little further south than the party zone - I'd definitely prefer it to the BW+ Chateau Granville. This is the BW+ on Drake, and isn't part of a cruise pkg, although I see that one is available that includes transportation from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the cruise terminal for $259 May - Sep :)
Cruisen Elf Posted February 26, 2015 #8 Share Posted February 26, 2015 We stayed at the Delta Vancouver Suites. It's a very nice hotel, within walking distance of many of the sites. It is close enough to the port to walk but we chose to take a cab because it was raining. It is a participating AAA hotel and we received a nice discount through that program. Since people pay extra for the Cruise Package it seems obvious they'll get priority on the shuttle; even if there isn't a fellow hotel guest booked on that package the shuttle has to drop people all over downtown - so the time it gets back for the next run will be dependent on two unknown variables, traffic and the destination(s) other guests wanted. A taxi from the BW on Drake to Canada Place will run under $10, or you could even walk up there in under 25 minutes (probably faster than waiting for the shuttle to return if you miss one) - 1 block up Drake, right onto Howe, follow all the way to Canada Place. It is good to know that we now have a hotel that finally meets the oft-requested criteria of 'included transfers from the airport and to the pier' - I'm guessing that a few others might follow suit now that cabs are on a fixed-price-YVR-to-Downtown model, so the hotels know exactly how much they'll have to reimburse their guests by. RunnerGirl26.2 Posted February 27, 2015 #14 Share Posted February 27, 2015 We spent a couple of days in Vancouver pre-cruise. We rented a condo near the light rail and on the HoHo shuttle route. Was actually less expensive than a hotel for the nights and more space. Free parking for the rental car too. Saved a bit on food by eating in for breakfast and dinner. Rode the light rail to within a couple of blocks of the pier.
