So I notice everyone talks about their fav menu items from the MDR!

 

Tell me your fav item from the Horizon court or International Cafe:)

I'm a huge fan of the salad bar! Tons of choices, plus I surf the other stations for add-ons (especially among the prepared salads -- I love the Russian salad.).

 

Among the desserts, I always am on the look-out for the sugar-free cappucino cake.

I'm sure there is a lot that we like but their battered shrimp makes me happy. As does their guacamole

The appetizer size meatballs in the buffet are yummy. Salad bar is good. Watermelon and pineapple in the buffet is usually really good. In the IC, it is about the shrimp salad for me. Oh, and the Cronuts.

The IC (International Café) has many favorites for me. Their chicken cashew salad is really very good. :)

My husband LOVES the hearts of palm salad, but we haven't seen it the last two cruises.

 

We both enjoy the indian curries.

I had an excellent Hungarian-style goulash in the HC on the Golden last fall! It really stood out as most of the other dishes I tried in the HC that cruise were mediocre at best.

I just hope the food on Royal in the HC is as good as most people say it is. I heard about honey stung chicken at the embarkation buffet on RCCL ships, fabulous, don't miss etc., and what a disappointment!!

We find lots of options on the buffet... we make our own salads, sandwiches, sometimes get fish and chips, just go and explore the offerrings. Sometimes we ship the MDR... and just stick with the buffet.

I love the little breaded scallops on embarkation day. When they have chicken wings, they're always good. And who can pass up the giant vat o' bacon in the morning! :p

Salad Bar. It's usually pretty good, but it can be different from ship to ship.

 

Wurst Night. I love German night, too. They actually call it Bavarian Night. I always get the spaetzle with gravy from one of the entrées. I can't recall the name. I also call it "wurst" night because they usually have a selection of sausages like bratwurst, knockwurst, etc.

 

One of my favorite MDR items is sometimes found in the buffet and that is the veal ravioli. It's very good.

Do they announce a theme night for the HC or do you just happen upon it? I have been on lots of cruises and never noticed this!

The split grilled lobster tails that were at the HC on the Regal's inaugural. They'll never be there again, but it was good while it lasted!

 

Another vote for the chicken salad (and cro-nuts, to which we're now addicted) at the IC.

Look on the back page of the Patter under the restaurant listing. Next to HC and Café Caribe will be the theme for lunch or evening meal for that day. Makers it nice to know what to expect. The two surprises we had on the Emerald last month is the HC had Island Seafood Night and the only seafood was a couple salads and they carved Salmon. However, watch the Café Caribe for American Buffet as it has the shrimp.

I love Bavarian Night at the buffet. Pork schnitzel, spaetzle, red cabbage and the big soft pretzels. :D
