DaveEasternPenn Posted March 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2015 Does anyone know if the GC Public beach has chair and umbrella rentals? I can't bake in the sun anymore for 4-5 hours. Also, does this Public beach get really crowded?
cb at sea Posted March 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2015 All of the access points to all of 7 Mile Beach (which is the entire stretch that all of the other "named" beaches are along!) will have chair/umbrella rentals. There are also restrooms nearby and food/drink..and watersport rentals are at several spots on the beach, as well! 7 Mile beach is pretty narrow...you can see the road from the beach quite easily, so it may feel more crowded than it actually is.... the entire stretch of beach is "public", so you can go anywhere! Also, does this Public beach get really crowded? If you are asking about a section of 7 Mile Beach called Public Beach then yes you can rent chairs. There is also rest rooms, outside showers and limited food options. Just 300' up the beach is a area called SeaGrape Beach which has a beach bar, food, restrooms, etc. SeaGrape will get crowded but not Pubic Beach.:)
karena1 Posted March 8, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 8, 2015 Hubby has been disappointed with Seagrape the last 2 times there. Beach is very steep into the water, way different than it used to be. Feel like you are sliding down your beach lounger all day. Is there another area on 7 mile that might have a nicer, flatter section of beach? We will be there again in Dec and looking for a new option instead of Seagrape this time Don't like the area by Calico Jacks either, so thinking maybe a beach closer to the port? We have always gone to Seagrape, so just not sure which one to try this time.
gambler Posted March 9, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2015 Go to Royal Palms. It is the first beach on Seven Mile. Nice beach, full service. Adult pool. Prices about the same as any where else in Cayman. For lunch get the fish and chips or fish sandwich, so fresh, tastes like they just caught it. Drinks are good http://www.royalpalmscayman.com

Feelin' Nauti' Posted March 23, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 23, 2015 Can non-guests rent chairs at the Marriott? No, they stopped it as of last year. Now they only want paying guest.
karena1 Posted March 25, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 25, 2015 we still want a "public" beach vs a resort beach. Don't want to pay the crazy price for drinks they charge. I know all beaches are public but want something where we can take a cooler with us w/o issue. So if Seagrape is it, then we will just have to go back there again. The word public is confusing for 7 Mile Beach. :D Tell driver you want to go to SeaGrape Beach, walk toward the water staying a little to your left of Calico Jacks. This area is called Public Beach. You will see a small playground and a few covered shelters that have picnic tables. There is a restroom with outdoor showers, a food and drink wagon and chairs to rent. No hassles here, have fun.:) Edited March 25, 2015 by runner15km
bookbabe Posted March 25, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 25, 2015 Things have changed quite a bit since that video. The road doesn't follow the waterline in that section anymore, but detours around a huge parking lot and a new playground. If you say you want to go to Calico Jacks at Public Beach, you're likely better off since the entrance to Public Beach is on the side of the detour closer to the port. Sea Grape will have you going around the whole detour and then backtracking.

But the last couple times hubby did not like how slanted the beach was if you want to be close to the water. He did love the chicken plate the vendor had in her little white van! So guessing we will end up there again.
