pattymo Posted March 30, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2015 I feel the same way. I booked my first NCL cruise in November , cruising in early June and all these extra fees and increases. I guess NCL doesn't want my repeat business or a favorable word of mouth ..shame on you NCL
JohnIreland Posted March 30, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2015 I was going to book one of the early trips on the Escape. Now I will be waiting for a while to see what other changes are coming.
don't-use-real-name Posted March 30, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 30, 2015 Did NCL add any more ways to get OBC ??? I didn't think so - go figure - the money flows ONLY one-way !!!
shealea Posted March 30, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 30, 2015 It's even more shocking when you put it all in one post!!! We are looking at a different cruise line to try this Fall. We've been loyal to NCL, but I think it's time to try a different line and see how it goes.

curtconcruiser Posted March 30, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 30, 2015 This is my first Norweign cruise we have done all Carnival cruises before. I am not too happy about this and will probably go back to Carnival again at least there I know what I am paying for and there is not much extra to pay for. It is alittle hard to get excited for first cruise on getway with all these extra charges that are coming about.
dna529 Posted March 30, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 30, 2015 I'm pretty sure I won't be buying a future cruise certificate on my cruise next week. :( Sent from my SCH-I535 using Forums mobile app
gatime Posted March 30, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 30, 2015 Bad Business, if you ask me. It was very shady how they have made all these increases and charges over night. A better way would have been a disclaimer, stating what changes were coming and giving people the option of keeping their booking or going elsewhere. To expect customers to be forced to pay extra after the "pay in full" date is crazy and I will not do business with such anymore.
chicaguapa Posted March 30, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 30, 2015 I booked our cruise in July 2014 and it's now costing way more than I budgeted for. We didn't get the UBP or UDP or OBC promo that so many people seemed to get. Our DCS for 4 has gone up by nearly $40 and add on the other increases in specialist restaurant gratuity and the room service charge. Plus the $/£ exchange rate is not in our favour at all (not NCL's fault that though!) But I'll make sure it doesn't cost us any more than we were expecting when we booked it and will adjust the DSC accordingly. We booked on specific terms and will pay what was in place at the time of booking. If NCL say we're stuck with the non-promo fares we paid when we booked, that should stand for the charges too. They can't have it both ways.
glittergal1 Posted March 30, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 30, 2015 well I for one will be booking with NCL for the last time . I booked my cruise last August and since then my cabin price has reduced by £200!!!!!!!!!! from what I paid so that alone made me angry . When I booked the DSC was $12 it has now gone up to $12.95 ........ yes I could pre pay at the old price but I disagree with paying a service charge before ive even had the service . The added bar gratuity has increased from 15% upto 18% this is annoying enough but then I find that the drinks menus had considerably decreased in choice .................. where have all the cocktails gone ??????? If they start charging for room service well that will be the straw that breaks the camels back . :(
Norwegian Cruise Line Posted March 30, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 30, 2015 Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced a new enhanced room service menu that is debuting on board Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway. The new menu offers an expanded selection for breakfast in addition to a wider variety of options available on the 24 hour menu. Individual items on the menu remain available on a complimentary basis and a convenience charge of up to $7.95 will be added to each order placed. Room service is one of up to 29 dining options offered across the fleet, and guests continue to be able to enjoy a wide array of complimentary choices onboard 24 hours a day. roger001 Posted March 31, 2015 #16 Share Posted March 31, 2015 In the two months between cruises, as already mentioned.......service charge up to $12.95, bar gratuity up to 18%, drink prices up about .75c to $1.00 each. No big deal considering the overall cruise package price. However, for us, 10 day cruise, that adds about $60 total to the cruise price. From a public relations stand point, it just looks bad though. That it all happened at once, is psychologically offensive to a very loyal NCL customer. However, I'll just continue to watch prices, and when I see a bargain, will jump on it. It's the bottom line, however it is collected, that I compute. It still looks bad though....NCL.
Project-College Posted March 31, 2015 #17 Share Posted March 31, 2015 I'm new to NCL, my 1st is in July, but in my opinion.... ...the lack of notice from NCL for these changes and more importantly, the lack of "Grandfathering" existing contracts for the prices that were agreed to... that just doesn't equate to good business. Not to be sarcastic but are they going to charge rental fees for the Life Preservers during the drills?
princess di44 Posted March 31, 2015 #18 Share Posted March 31, 2015 Just looked at the excursions I booked last week for a cruise in a few weeks. The current price of those excursions through norwegian are all between 6-20 buks extra now per person. We booked 3. This is getting ridiculous... It does not matter if there is no actual cost for the food, the convenience charge makes it not free.
Rare conandrob240 Posted March 31, 2015 #20 Share Posted March 31, 2015 (edited) I am going to add these three to this list: The Kids Sail "free" promo that isn't. NCL directly increased the prices for the 3rd/4th guest by 100% of more in the hours prior to the KSF promo being added. The 3rd/4th guest fee is now, in many cases, HIGHER than for guests 1 and 2. The price increases that pretty much directly map to the "free" UBP/UDP. Wide scale implementation of roughly 20% on most cruises since prior to the free promo. "Dumbing down" of the drink menu to steer guests towards basic drinks and not the fancy, fun cocktails they have promoted in the past. Sotermarler Posted March 31, 2015 #21 Share Posted March 31, 2015 They will get the increased gratuity from us, but that's about it. We cruise on a budget or we can't cruise at all. We won't pay for specialty restaurants since we've already paid for food, we won't order room service ( my legs aren't broken) , we won't order drinks not on the UBP (I will be armed with my drink list though), we wont pay2$ for a bottle of water, we won't do ship excursions nor will we pay for shows. Keep trying NCL. ;)

NCL certainly no how to upset there customers j I agree with all you are saying and yes, all these increases are going to upset or have upset many. I guess the only thing I can say is: have any of us checked to see what changes other lines have made? Of all the new added costs, I am still not convinced we are paying more than other lines: As a rule, NCL base prices are lower, they will continue to make it up some way. The only positive thing: we do have choices in most of these cases. We have no choice on what the base price is. To me, the biggest negative with all this is: NCL decides to hit us with all this almost at once. Why not, one increase at a time over a long period of time and give some notice or throw in a grandfathers clause with some of the increases. I know some you couldn't do that with, but some you can. The only new charge that I do not understand people being upset about is the increase in the bar tips. 18% is so normal for tipping today, why is this bothering anyone? All the rest make sense. backsbanny Posted March 31, 2015 #24 Share Posted March 31, 2015 you must uderstand that 18% might be appropriate for you but for europeans or asians australians thats way too much!!in europe nobody tips anywhere like this...if you go to a very nice restaurant max appropriate tip would be 5% or 10% max... sundercruiser Posted March 31, 2015 #25 Share Posted March 31, 2015 For me, the title of the thread is a little off, as it's more like "What's gone up or changed since you made final payment?" As some have noted, while NCL is (apparently?) legally entitled to make these changes, even for those folks who have already booked or made final payment, the extra revenue they'll gather by not postponing these changes for those in my position (or just announcing the changes but putting off implementation [for everybody] by a mere 3 months) VERSUS the obviously bad will such a move engenders seems like incredibly poor business sense. I note that while yesterday the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up by 1.5 percent, a healthy gain, NCLH was down by just over 1 percent, a healthy loss. Perhaps Wall Street doesn't like these changes either.
