Ryndam - apparent murder/suicide onboard

Recommended Posts

The FBI has boarded the Ryndam in San Juan to investigate an apparent murder/suicide. A couple was found dead in their cabin upon arrival in San Juan.

So far only Spanish language news from San Juan:

My prayers for the passengers and their families.

I wonder if the ship, having become a crime scene, will be held until released by the FBI and how long would that take.

We had a similar situation but in Europe. On the first night, between Barcelona and Corsica, a person committed suicide and the French police met the ship at the dock. They let everyone out as usual, and the ship departed Ajaccio on time. We saw the police at the dock but didn't find out exactly what happened until after we had departed.

Not unheard of for an elderly couple, one or both with serious medical problems, to end this way though you might think that if that was the case they'd see their cruise through to the end first. It wouldn't surprise me that a reasonable %-age of the "missing overboard" incidents have similar circumstances.

Always sad to hear of such events, very tragic indeed regardless of the circumstances.

More info:

Victims are a man a woman, both 57 years old and of U.S. Citizenship. The cabin attendant walked in on the scene.

Translating the news report says "it is a marriage of 60 years" ... how old were they?

The correct translation would be a 60-year old couple. This newspaper says 60. The other major newspaper says 57:

so sad, very sad.

I don't think they are 57.

I stuck to the Spanish report and they were indeed married for 60 years.

sympathies to their families and to the Crew member(s) who encountered it.

thanks for letting us know.

This is a link to the other major newspaper in Puerto Rico.. The correct translation would be that both of them were US citizens and 57 years old. http://www.elnuevodia.com/noticias/seguridad/nota/investiganmuertedepasajerosencrucero-2028809/

Thoughts and prayers for the crew member who found them and their families.

PS... (reason for editing) I just read the other article and by the way it is written it can be interpreted as a 60 year married couple.
