Aviator of the Seas Posted April 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2015 The FBI has boarded the Ryndam in San Juan to investigate an apparent murder/suicide. A couple was found dead in their cabin upon arrival in San Juan. So far only Spanish language news from San Juan: http://elvocero.com/encuentran-pareja-sin-vida-en-crucero-de-lujo-en-san-juan/ Google translate: https://translate.google.com/ My prayers for the passengers and their families. geocruiser Posted April 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) Very, very sad. Prayer for PAX who died and their family. I also think of the crew/staff who have to deal with this, it has to be very hard for them. Edited April 2, 2015 by geocruiser
DaveOKC Posted April 2, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Very sad situation. It can happen anywhere however - once in Vegas it happened in a room two floors below us at Harrahs.

Aviator of the Seas Posted April 2, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I wonder if the ship, having become a crime scene, will be held until released by the FBI and how long would that take. We had a similar situation but in Europe. On the first night, between Barcelona and Corsica, a person committed suicide and the French police met the ship at the dock. They let everyone out as usual, and the ship departed Ajaccio on time. We saw the police at the dock but didn't find out exactly what happened until after we had departed. Aviator of the Seas Posted April 2, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted April 2, 2015 More info: Victims are a man a woman, both 57 years old and of U.S. Citizenship. The cabin attendant walked in on the scene.
Dave in NJ Posted April 2, 2015 #8 Share Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) Not unheard of for an elderly couple, one or both with serious medical problems, to end this way though you might think that if that was the case they'd see their cruise through to the end first. It wouldn't surprise me that a reasonable %-age of the "missing overboard" incidents have similar circumstances. Always sad to hear of such events, very tragic indeed regardless of the circumstances. cruisevers Posted April 2, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Hardly consider 57 to be elderly...could have been many reasons.

shrimp56 Posted April 2, 2015 #12 Share Posted April 2, 2015 The FBI are not letting anyone off the ship. Not surprised. Puerto Rico is US territory. On the upside. They called Ryndam a luxury cruise ship.
ger_77 Posted April 2, 2015 #13 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Oh my gosh, my first thoughts go to the cabin steward who found them, then to their families left behind. Unimaginable !!!! Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

Aviator of the Seas Posted April 2, 2015 Author #16 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Translating the news report says "it is a marriage of 60 years" ... how old were they? The correct translation would be a 60-year old couple. This newspaper says 60. The other major newspaper says 57: http://www.elnuevodia.com/noticias/seguridad/nota/investiganmuertedepasajerosencrucero-2028809/

I stuck to the Spanish report and they were indeed married for 60 years. sympathies to their families and to the Crew member(s) who encountered it. thanks for letting us know. sapper1 Posted April 2, 2015 #22 Share Posted April 2, 2015 I seriously doubt that future guests would be made aware of which cabin this occurred in. The crew most likely have been instructed not to speak of it.
Rare Vict0riann Posted April 2, 2015 #23 Share Posted April 2, 2015 Very sad. I also took it as a 60-year-married couple.
