Legend has Noro!

Recommended Posts

Celebrity Infinity had an outbreak of it also....not much that can be don't to prevent it....if sick people come on board....everyone needs to take responsibility for their own personal care regimen to minimize it from happening and spreading.

Add NCL to the list, since one of its ships had an outbreak last week....it just happens and happens.

Infinity was mentioned in the same news article FYI.

So was NCL, but some people don't open the attachment to read it, and then think it was only about the Legend situation. It happens even in hotels with multi-day conventions, but it doesn't get the same press coverage as when it hits a ship.

Was on March 20 sailing.WOW glad We missed that Bug. Interesting that the CDC points out the four of the five out breaks to occur this year have all been on Royal Caribbean owned ships.

Those cut backs on staffing starting to have an effect on cleaning standards? one has to wounder. OR was it just passengers caught it in mexico and brought it onto the ship.

Do NOT touch your eyes, nose or mouth until you've washed your hands...that's how the virus enters your system! You don't need to stop touching other things....as long as you don't touch your entry points until you've washed your hands!

Good advice, but also remember that menus have been touched by many many people and are probably not cleaned. I usually don't touch them.

Seriously? You're just as likely to get it off the handle of your local grocery cart. You just don't know about all the other cases because it's not in a confined space like a ship. Folks all over your town could have it but no one would ever know or put 2 and 2 together.

Just ignorant to say they got it in Mexico.

Yea....and the wait staff in the restaurants here lay the menus on the clean plates and silverware when we sit down. Ewwww.

After reading some comments here, it often amazes me that the human race has gotten this far.

Don't people read anything before commenting?

(notice I did not point out any one person - it would not be worth the time anyways as they already think they know everything)

LOL!

so I heard on the radio this morning that both this ship and the carnival ship are getting their full cleanings today at the same port?

I would assume then that this was spread around at the port somehow and taken onto both the ships that caused the outbreaks...

random thought....

I would be thankful though that the deep clean is happening right before I board.

I too was on the March 20 sailing and I am still very sick and on my second course of antibiotics. Everything was fine until the last several days when people started coughing around the ship. It was very evident by seeing people and talking to them that something was going around fast. It's been two weeks but of course this will not get any press, which is what I told RCL in the survey- only noro does. I've had to keep away from everyone during this time.

Any point about washing hands is a joke. That is common sense and did nothing to stop the illnesses the week before. How do you stop anything when people are coughing and sneezing? Wear masks now? I'd like to know how people suddenly got sick on my cruise. My doctor says upper respiratory illness, but it is not gong away yet. Could it be that some people developed bronchial irritation from all the smoke on deck and the casino and spread it?

But remember, wash your hands for 20 seconds and all will be good lol.

Well, I am sure the Legend will be super clean and ready for your great cruise.

My DH and I were on the 3/20/2015 Southern Caribbean 10 night sailing. We had a great time and I would go again in a minute. We seemed to have picked up a cold-viral thing on the last day or so. Did not effect our trip at all but cannot seem to shake it.

Sounds like good advise from all of the CC posters. I did wash my hands a lot but I probably made the touching the face mistake!

Have a great cruise.

Someone or multiple people has some bug that was incubating in their bodies and then got spread around to other people on the ship. Common sense strategies are good and probably prevented you from getting sick(er) sooner.

No strategy is foolproof.....other than NOT being around any other people, anywhere.

So your point would be what? Don't wash your hands anymore because it is airborne? What about all of the other diseases that are spread through touch?

Geeze, I hope everyone is washing their hands........that's just gross, and a problematic suggestion on your part to suggest washing hands is a joke.

Sounds like the same thing we have had. I think I am getting better and then it keeps coming back. I might need some of those antibiotics. We were lucky that it did not ruin our vacation. Hope you feel better soon!

We received a call & email notification that boarding will be delayed Tuesday due to "gastrointestinal illness." I'm thinking the ship will be nice & clean so as long as we're careful, we should be fine. DH thinks that sounds too easy.

I'm sure some of you have been through this. I'd appreciate your thoughts & suggestions............

A few years ago we were doing a B2B on the Navigator when there was an outbreak on the sailing before ours. When we boarded the ship was almost squeaky clean. Everything; walls, carpet, door handles, etc was steamed cleaned. You have a great attitude about the ship being nice and clean. Enjoy and happy cruising.

Actually I would be in the top 1% of hand washers as far as how much I wash! Back in the 90s I would have been considered OCD because I washed around 10 times per day!

Hand washing did nothing to stop anyone from getting sick on my cruise or on the subsequent cruise! When people are coughing around you at dinner and the like, you can wash all you want- it will not matter. My point is obviously with all the posts that think hand washing will keep you from getting sick. THe "point" as I stated was NOT that hand washing is a joke, it is that people get a false sense of security thinking they can wash their hands for "20 seconds" per all the signs onboard.

You seriously think over 100 people got noro because they were not hygienic?

I hope you get better too. I am sure you washed your hands too lol.

In fact, all 5 people in my party were sickened. One did not get it as bad.

The good news is that I lost all my post cruise weight.

Interesting that both of these ships departed Fort Lauderdale - certainly should be looking at that port facility and not just the ships themselves.

Timing on incubation looks close to right for contamination at the port?

Does Royal Caribbean seem to have more trouble with Niro virus than other lines or do I just notice it more because I cruise with them? It just seems like it is almost always a Royal Caribbean or Celebrity ship.

Found this info on another site (that I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to post a link to) outlining the 2014 cases reported to the CDC.

Lines / Ships Sail Dates Sick Passengers / All Passengers (%) Ill Crew-Staff / All Crew-Staff (%) Crown Princess 5-12 Apr – 7day California cruise from Los Angeles 122 / 3161 (3,9%) 30 / 1176 (2,6%) CDC report Dawn Princess 18 Oct – 16 Nov – New Zealand cruise from Melbourne 158 / 3009 (5,25%) 14 / 1160 (1,2%) CDC report Royal Caribbean – Grandeur of the Seas 28 Mar – 5 Apr – 8day Baltimore to Bahamas 111 / 2122 (5,2%) 6 / 790 (0,8%) CDC report Holland America – Maasdam 2-28 Mar – 26day Amazon/South America from Rio de Janeiro to Ft Lauderdale 65 / 1096 (5,9%) 8 / 569 (1,4%) CDC report Holland America – Veendam 8-22 Feb – Panama Canal from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale 114 / 1273 (9%) 10 / 575 (1,7%) CDC report Princess Cruises – Caribbean Princess 25 Jan – 1 Feb, 7day Western Caribbean (Belize and Mexico) cruise from Houston TX 181 / 3102 (5,8%) 11 / 1148 (1%) CDC report Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas 21-27 January, 10day Caribbean cruise from Cape Liberty (Bayonne) NJ 577 / 3050 (18,9%) 49 / 1165 (4,2%) CDC report Royal Caribbean Majesty of the Seas 20-24 January, 4day Caribbean cruise from Miami 66 pax 2 crew (no CDC report) NCL Norwegian Star 5-19 January, 7day Mexican Riviera cruise from LA 130 / 2318 (5,61%) 12 / 1039 (1,15%) CDC report

If this compilation of reports is accurate - looks like Royal MAY be running a higher incident rate.

(Well, that didn't cut & paste very well! Hope it makes sense).

I'm in San Diego on business today. . . .checked into my hotel room and was surprised by the view of Legend of the Seas in the background. I have a view at least for the next few hours before she departs, along with the Statendam. At least I know the Midway will be there in the morning. I will be toasting and waving to you at 5pm for your bon voyage pheonix and David!
