and another showing that it does not take long for rust marks to come through. I trust the Captain will have crew out with pots of paint to freshen her up

Great to have an overnight in NY. They can just walk up the street to Broadway/Times Square and take in the night life.

I wonder if anyone had time to email ahead and get tickets for any of the shows ?
Then again it would be a whole nights entertainment just standing in Times Square and watching the passing parade.:D:D

You can even sit down on the step seats on the left and be entertained watching the passing parade.

Note all the yellow taxis. It takes forever driving down Broadway, which is now only two lanes, on Friday night, because of the number of people in Times Square. Edited by MMDown Under

Yes, it is under those steps on the left. However, I wonder if they could have gotten off the ship in time for the theatre. You can also buy last minute discount tickets at the actual theatre, if the show hasn't sold out, or full price returns.

Is anything cheap in NY. We would probably be surprised at the cost of even the discounted last minute cheap tickets.:eek:

Due to the amount of time it took to clear customs.. (they zeroed the ship i.e. everyone off and through checkpoints, and did a search with dogs etc it took around 5 hours) and they got up to Times Square it was too late to have caught a show or got tickets. Some may have got some for tonight though. Apparently Times Square was crazy, being Friday night and really nice weather.

Bonus was that the tours got off on time or early. My parents got a bonus inclusion of Ground Zero on theirs, due to the extra time, so they are thrilled. Then got back tonight to find New York is the start of a new sector on the World tour they got another free mini bar as part of their Elite "ness"...so are having a night cap to celebrate.:D:D

They are going to be the only ship in port, which will be nice. Looks like Carnival Fantasy does weekly cruises from there.

Reading the blogs, the immigration clearance at NY sounds a nightmare, 4 to 5 hours, no one is allowed back on until the ship is 'cleared.' Some pax could not get back on board until 0130.

Not looking forward to that bit on 'Aurora' as NY is our first Port after 6 days crossing ye olde Atlantic. Edited by NSWP

The same thing happens when they come into Sydney..... I know when we have people on B2B down at the opt they all have debark and once they have a zero count and immigration clears the ship they can then reboard.

Would make one think twice about planning a cruise which arrives in NY, as a first port of call, on a big ship. Guess it would be a lot quicker if the majority of passengers were Americans.

hmm now this has me thinking.... ok next year we are on the pacific circle cruise... our first port of US call will be Alaska.... with 2000 AUS/NZ what will immigration be like there... and then as we will be visiting Canada before reaching San Francisco, were we will need to do it all over again... Where in Alaska is your first port of call? How long are you due to be in port? You would have to be unlucky to have another ship visiting as a first port of call, so 2,000 Aussie/Kiwi passengers shouldn't be too bad, unlike NY. I think the key to happiness is to expect to have much less time in port than you originally thought!

Immigration took so long at San Juan, Puerto Rico, our first US port of call after a TA, there was a near mutiny, staff lost control, and immigration officers (on theatre stage) threatened to walk off.

I would think there would be no further immigration for San Francisco. Edited by MMDown Under

Anchorage is our first port of call.....

we will be visiting Canada after that which is why I am assuming that we will need to do the immigration thing again is SFO.... when we did the Fort Lauderdale - colon 2000 - Panama - Los Angeles on the world cruise 2011 we had to do immigration again...
