Lost the edge ????

Recommended Posts

I feel so disappointed that I honestly think that RCCI has really lost the edge on the quantum calls ships. it feels like they've given up the whole ice rink, royal promenade thing for more pay restaurants and extremely expensive shops. I'm gutted ......

Lost our beautiful MDR for allegedly better dining options, and they're not :(

slow lifts, hardly any pool deck, and the sea plex arena that isn't that great. ..... gutted :(

Lost its edge…absolutely not. The Quantum is new and different, exciting and different, bold and different >>>> that is what cutting edge is all about.

If you want ice rinks, promenades, one main dining room then the "older" Oasis, Freedom, and Voyager classes are for you.

Just because the Quantum class isn't what you want it doesn't mean that it is not new and different…….. Royal Caribbean continues to develop, change, innovate, etc. That is the reason some folks don't like the design.

Well they say variety is the spice of life Stitchman. I'd bet for every naysayer, there's at least one that loves the Quantum Class so I doubt the company has lost their edge. :)

Well to me, it didn't feel special anymore.

You're pinnacle beach native, so you wouldn't hear a bad word said against them. For such a large ship, a really poor pool area. even the casino tables area was very cramped.

I'm not the only person feeling this way.

I haven't contradicted my original review, it's an okay ship, that's all. But no Wow factor. that's what I wanted. It didn't happen.

Very well said. I for one don't think I would be a huge fan of Q class, but I completely understand why so many people are! It's new, modern, and exciting, but it's definitely not for everyone. And those that don't like it, have PLENTY of other ships to choose from in the RCI fleet.

But I definitely don't think that Royal had lost their "edge". They've just changed it up a bit with this new class of ship.

And yet it was the hundreds of PNs and Diamonds that were complaining the loudest on these boards on many of the sailings, talking negatively of Q and RCL as a whole.

Sorry you feel gutted. I loved Quantum with the exception of Dynamic Dining and a static menu. As a vegetarian, it was very lacking.

Loved, IFly, Northstar, 270, Mamma Mia, the Sea Plex, Flowrider, the gorgeous aft pool.

Fortunately, food is not my driving force to cruise so I can make do.

I think it's great that Royal changed things up a bit. It was almost like sailing a different cruise line except I kept my perks. 😃

Why not just sail on one of the freedom or voyager class ships, instead?

I know the Quantum class may not be everyone's cup of tea and if anything they seem similar to the larger NCL boats, however nobody is forcing you to go on them :p

I particularly recommend Indy and Liberty, two of the finest vessels imho :)

Better cancel your Anthem Cruise in October then.

Honestly this post it pathetic. It's a totally different class of ship. Before you even went on the Canary Island's cruise you weren't looking forward to it which would sway your opinion from the start. Dynamic Dining is totally different from the Main Dining Room, yes. They haven't made any secret of that. They're planning on introducing DD on the Oasis Class Ships, will you avoid them too? As far as I'm concerned, the food in the DD restaurants was far tastier and varied than the normal Main Dining Room, and the Menu changed half way through the cruise. How is that bad? If you had booked different restaurants, you would not have had the same food twice.

I presume you went Ice Skating every day on the Freedom Class Ships, going on how much it's affected you?

Also, what did the promenade give you over the Esplanade? I suppose you camped out in the Promenade, just to say how much better it was over the Esplanade?

I found the Anthem excellent. I loved every minute of it. And I've also been on the Liberty twice (which is the same as the Independence!). SeaPlex is a fun venue, I loved the bumper cars there, and playing Quest. in there. It was also fun to see the Trapeze that people were swinging on. There was also Xbox's there for the kids, and table tennis tables. How is this bad? The "lack of pool area" is total BS too. The ship is not designed for warmer weather. And even then, there is an outside pool area, inside pool area, and the Solarium. Did you not notice we had 5 days of cold and wind? The interior pool and solarium were warm the entire time.

Honestly think you were going to hate the Anthem before even getting on it going by your posts pre-cruise

Hardly any pool deck. There's in outdoor pool deck and there's an indoor pool deck, not to mention the Solarium multi-level infinity pools.

:)

I like how he didn't know if there was a Coke Machine either ...

There were 2 in the Windjammer which everyone had to walk past, and 2 in Sorrento's as a minimum!! (as well as the Puzzle Break Room, and Seaplex)

Obviously he never went in the Windjammer then... obviously ...

My wife and I are booked on one of the Quantum class in February. Looking forward to seeing what it's like. But, honestly, I don't usually cruise for the ship. I cruise: a) to get away from everyday working life and BE on a ship, and b) to go places. For me it's itinerary first, ship second. The only place I break this rule is in the Caribbean because we've already been there so often; for that, I wouldn't want a small ship, as I'll be spending more time onboard, so I prefer the Voyager, Freedom, or Oasis class... and, as luck would have it, the big ships is what they seem to use, so for that and that only it's more about the ship than the destination. I doubt we'll hate the Quantum class but, if we do, we simply won't do that class any more.

As for RCCL "losing the edge", I definitely can see in the past 10 years that they've gone downhill. When we started cruising in 2005, we got mints on the pillows, a chocolate midnight buffet, lobster in the MDR. Now we get no mints, no chocolate buffet, no lobster. Do I like the cost-cutting measures? Not particularly. Do I understand why it happens? Yes. It definitely makes me more inclined to try other cruise lines, but I'm not abandoning RCCL just yet (especially since they now give Diamond members three free drinks from 5pm-8:30pm daily, which makes up for no mint on the pillow, LOL).

For a ship of this size, it seems miniscule. I'm talking about the main outdoor pool area ...... not all the covered places. Compare that to the likes of oceana, britannia etc. Just saying.

We really liked the Anthem but I do have to agree about all the real estate they gave those expensive shops. That was amazing to us. The dining rooms sure could have used that space. It was very cramped in the dining rooms except for Devinly Decadence.

Incidentally ....... this post is an opinion ......

And mainly architectural points.

For instance. They used to cover the ice rink to perform the "quest" show where everyone sat in a comfortable tiered arena. It didn't work properly in the sea plex as no one at the back could see properly.

And they've decided not to do dynamic dining on the other ships now ...... can't think why !!

(I actually enjoyed my dynamic classic).

But surely the most advanced ship on the fleet should have had cordless mics on karaoke !!!

I thought I was in Ronnie Scotts club in the 70's lol

I would suggest you never go on the Norwegian Escape then. (Or any of the breakaway class ships.)

While I do enjoy a big pool area...you have to go back to the Freedom/Voyager classes for that. Since Oasis breaks them up and so does Quantum.

You have to remember, these Quantum class ships are not designed for 24/7 Caribbean sun, so there is no need to make a huge and impressive pool area. What they have presumably works for the purposes of the ship/weather.

Well no ..... I actually didn't realise they weren't meant to be sunny cruise ships.

What were they designed for then ? Just curious .......

The NCL ships have water flumes all over the place, please tell me that's designed for pants weather then .....

Maybe the Quantum class ships were designed for a more classier "slum it" type cruiser then.
