Cruise to Sydney

I know it's early, but would like to plan a cruise in 2017 to Sydney. I live in Florida and would like to cruise from there, if possible. If not, at least from the U.S. Does anyone know which cruise lines offer something like that? Thanks in advance.

You might look at the World Cruise. You may find one with a segment ending in Sydney.

 

Probably the other choice would be putting together several cruises, possibly with lengthy gaps between them

You could take a Panama Canal cruise from Florida to California, then pick up a cruise that crosses the Pacific. Holland America and Princess may do something like that. The Oceania line has cruises that start somewhere in Australia and end in Florida. Check out world cruises done by several lines, usually smaller ships.

I know HAL and Princess have cruises to/from Sydney, but they depart from the west coast. I'm sure there are others without going the 'World Cruise" route. I'd look to see who sails Australia/NZ and then look to see how they get there if they aren't there year-round.

 

My FIL once booked a r/t from the west coast (San Francisco IIRC) on Cunard but ended up canceling it. It was one Cunard ship to Sydney, about a week in Australia, and then a different Cunard ship back to the US. That may have involved World Cruises but I don't know. It was a group put together by a cruise specialist agency.

Ships sailing from FL transit the Panama Canal in winter and spring, turning around in San Diego, LA, maybe SF. Their last transit of the season is to reposition for Alaska cruises. They don't head south again until the Alaska season is over, and then a few head for OZ for the winter (here) season. They often leave from Vancouver and sail to Hawaii, then on to Tahiti and then Australia.

There are some other odd ducks that transit at diferent times. The Asuka II is transiting today.

Sea Princess is on a World cruise and has a 40 day segment from NYC to Sydney leaving NYC Jul. 25. It looks to be sold out, though. EM

Be sure to plan a lot of time to be on land in Australia. Most of the best places to go are inland enough that you cannot reach them from a cruise ship and would need to drive out and stay over night or over multiple nights. Examples:

There are cruise lines that sail from Los Angeles to Sydney and likely you could find another cruise that goes from Florida to Los Angeles.

Pretty much all lines do something from the West Coast to Australia in about October as they bring ships out for the start of our season, some go from Canada some from USA.

At least one (usually two) of Cunard's ships calls into Port Everglades and continues on to Sydney as part of the World Voyage. 2017 itineraries should be out by the end of August.

 

According to the itinerary posted on Cruise Critic, the 2017 HAL World Voyage is not going to Australia.
