rockster Posted September 17, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2005 and would you recommend them? I just read Da Vinci Code and Tales from the Vinyl Cafe and they were both great reads.
PTarbay Posted September 17, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2005 I wish I could help but I've read lots of books about cruises but none on a cruise
steve20832 Posted September 17, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2005 I can read a book at home, why do people go to the library on a cruise ship when there are hundreds of activities to do that I can't do at home? Just wondering...
redhead621 Posted September 17, 2005 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2005 It has been recommended that I read SKINNY DIP on my cruise. It is about a cruise. My friends said that I would love it.
Nliedel Posted September 17, 2005 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2005 I am a voracious reader (or I was before the kids came along) but I never manage to read anything more in depth on a cruise than a magazine. I just do not have the temperment to lay in the sun and bake while reading. It gives me ants in my pants.

Bette And Bill Posted September 17, 2005 #7 Share Posted September 17, 2005 RedHead, I have the CD version of Skinny Dip and listened to it while driving back and forth to work. Actually I have heard it twice. It is easy light reading. I normally take a couple of books with me and if I get the chance to read I can. If I don't thats fine also. I like to read but the time doesn't always present itself.
BlakeWW Posted September 17, 2005 #8 Share Posted September 17, 2005 I usually take a book just in case I want to read on the plane...but I usually fall asleep before we leave the runway...anyway a great book is by Harlan Coben and it's called Gone For Good and another one by him is Tell No One. boatbunny Posted September 17, 2005 #9 Share Posted September 17, 2005 Depends on what you are looking for, but I read a chick book called "Can You Keep a Secret" by Sophia Kinsella (same author as Shop A Holic -which is also a great series of 3 books). Funny thing was that the family we shared a table with at dinner (and became good friends) the mom was also reading this book, and I saw it on a fair amount of chairs by the pool. Ocean Boy Posted September 17, 2005 #10 Share Posted September 17, 2005 The only thing I can sit still long enough to read on a cruise is the "Compass" and I usually have to break that into several sessions.
ahoys Posted September 17, 2005 #11 Share Posted September 17, 2005 Each cruise I take a "Florida" book. Anything by Randy Wayne White, Lawrence Sanders (the McNally series) or Tom Corcoran. Easy reads, mystery novels, very interesting characters, and well-written. I highly recommend all...

teddie Posted September 17, 2005 #13 Share Posted September 17, 2005 Any of Jane Austen's six novels. (Pride and Prejudice is an excellent start) After 200 years, they are still awesome!
Rala Posted September 17, 2005 #14 Share Posted September 17, 2005 I love anything by Janet Evanovich (myteries, but very funny), James Patterson (Alex Cross mysteries), Kathy Reichs (main char. is a forensic anthropologist--again mysteries and sometimes a bit grisly but still a good read). Patricia Cornwell is another good author. To the OP--if you liked the DaVinci Code, try Angels and Demons also by Dan Brown. One of my very favorite things to do on a cruise is to find a comfy spot near the pool ,but in the shade usually and read my book, enjoy my foo-foo drink, and people watch. Soooo relaxing!! Enjoy your cruise!

pcur Posted September 17, 2005 #20 Share Posted September 17, 2005 I love to read Barbara Parker books while on a Caribbean cruise. They take place in Miami beach, and the last one took place in Cuba. Very good mysteries, and very Caribbean "flavored".
barbyma Posted September 17, 2005 #21 Share Posted September 17, 2005 Skinny Dip isn't actually about a cruise, but it starts on one & is light, fun reading for vacation. I, unfortunately, don't have much time to read at home (I rely on audiobooks in the car for entertainment), so I have to do some reading on my forced down-time. Last month on the Serenade I read "Inside the Mind of Scott Peterson". Barb

bubbie617 Posted September 18, 2005 #23 Share Posted September 18, 2005 I love light reading while on a cruise. I would never try to read a really involved story because my attention span is quite short. I'm too busy looking around. I usually read anything from the Archie McNally series (Sanders), Grisham or Mary Higgins Clark.

hstrybuf Posted September 18, 2005 #25 Share Posted September 18, 2005 While my intentions are there, I've never read an entire book on a cruise. At the most, just a few pages. ;)
