Cuervosar Posted March 6, 2017 #826 Share Posted March 6, 2017 Thanks for that, just went through the deck plans and it is interesting how that is laid out. To be honest, I haven't looked at the deck plans in ages. Never would have noticed that level of detail anyway. Now; Where is the floorplan of those aft cabins???? Driving me to drink. (More) Cuervosar ... The deck plans on the UK site have changed slightly, Deck 7 as I said previous shows access to the Aft lifts/ elevators, Deck 8,9 and 10 show a solid line across the back of them and on Deck 11 to 15 there is no solid line ie no wall! Deck 16 shows access to the lifts/ elevators. If you look at the deck plans, close to the aft cabins on 15 down to 6 or 5 there is a set of stairs and two openings which appear to be crew lifts/ elevators. These I believe will be the emergency route for cabins in and around the aft area of the ship.
ERLEC Posted March 7, 2017 #827 Share Posted March 7, 2017 Where do I go to create my own MSC key card signature? I've seen many people with this in their signature, showing the upcoming MSC cruise... I like that..
renysmom Posted March 7, 2017 #828 Share Posted March 7, 2017 perhaps the aft suite guests will enter the elevator from their rooms. Nope don't think that anymore after looking at the deck plans. Dave How awesome would that be? Improbable but awesome :)

I hate the Disney Magic Bands and also resorts that require you to wear a band. Just give me a key, please. Maybe they will let you opt for a button or something you can pin on. Rare eroller Posted March 10, 2017 #833 Share Posted March 10, 2017 With the Carnival Corp. version, called Ocean Medallion you can completely opt out if you choose and stick with an old fashioned cruise card. I'm guessing you will be able to do the same with the MSC version. Personally I can't wait to try it. I do prefer having a medallion over a bracelet like the Carnival Corp. Ocean Medallion. Of course that is a sales opportunity as well, because if you want to wear the medallion you have to purchase either the bracelet or necklace to attach it. jchipgcs Posted March 10, 2017 #834 Share Posted March 10, 2017 It's a little "big brother" to me. I don't want to be GPS tracked everywhere I go. I'd feel like a microchipped dog. But I do see benefits for it. If I had kids, I'd glue that sucker on so I knew where they were at all times. I KNOW the shenanigans I used to get into as a kid on a cruise ship. LOL Personally I wear an oversized watch and really wouldn't want to replace or add to that or look goofy with stuff on both arms like Wonder Woman. And how do ladies feel about a big blue wristband on dressy nights?
sidari Posted March 10, 2017 #835 Share Posted March 10, 2017 With the amount of info that can be stored on an I.D card these days you would think that they would be able to adapt the sea pass card to do the same thing, or is it just a vanity project by the cruise lines to once again try to out do each other. Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted March 10, 2017 #836 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Well, the weird thing is that several cruise lines have had these bands for years already and they are phasing them out because of customer complaints (although some people love them). Maybe MSC just wants the data? These things track your every movement. They can figure out traffic patterns, how to get us funneled to the casino more, etc... I'm ok with it as long as it isn't the only option.
Rare eroller Posted March 10, 2017 #837 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Well, the weird thing is that several cruise lines have had these bands for years already and they are phasing them out because of customer complaints (although some people love them). Really several cruise lines? I sail most and to my knowledge Carnival Corps. Ocean Medallion and MSC's MSC for Me technology platform are industry firsts. No cruise line currently has the capability that these two programs will have. Royal Caribbean introduced "Wow Bands" when the Quantum Class was introduced, but it's completely different than what is proposed now. They basically had the exact same capability as a normal cruise card, meaning they were/are limited to opening the cabin door and charging items to your shipboard account. They do not have GPS or RFID tracking capabilities and are quite limited in what they can do. Royal Caribbean is developing its own technology platform that will replace the Wow Bands and have far more capability like what Carnival Corp and MSC are introducing. The only other cruise line I know of with anything similar is Disney. They issue limited "Magic Bands" onboard but only for the children enrolled in one of their kid's programs. Magic Bands are widely used in Walt Disney World and that is essentially where this all stated, but it's limited to only the kids on the Disney ships. I use the term 'several' when referring to more than two but less than many, which appears to be the case here? I also thought that the RCL WOW bands have RDIF technology, but we all know that cruise line web pages aren't always accurate. Per the RCL web page regarding WOW bands : "Combined with our wearable RFID technology". With that being said, I defer to your expertise in that MSC's tech is completely different. At 110 cruises, I bow respectfully to your experience. I can only hope to get into a 3 digit ticker one day :). Maybe once I get used to my fitbit, I'll like the bands better. LOL Royal's Wow Bands may have RFID to open cabin doors (just like a cruise card on some ships - those where you hold the card to the door lock but don't have to insert or swipe anything), but there is no tracking. The Wow band is really just a substitute for a key card and nothing else. That will be changing though as Royal develops its own new technology platform. What MSC and Carnival Corp. are proposing with their new technology platform goes way beyond that. It will have tracking (which you can deactivate at least with the Ocean Medallion) so you can order drinks/food anywhere on the ship and have them delivered directly to you, but it's also all about personalizing your experience. Yes it will know where you are and push personalized experiences it thinks you're interested in right to you. You will also personalize preferences before you leave home via the app and website that goes hand and hand with the device. I agree it's a little like big brother watching, but in the end you will likely have ultimate control regarding just how much you want the cruise line to know. It should make some things much easier, like checking in at the beginning of the cruise and the boarding process. Of course it all sounds great on paper, but in reality much will depend on proper staffing to support the capabilities, and a crew that is well trained on its functions and how to respond to requests. Keep in mind this is all about increasing onboard spend. It will make spending your $$ onboard even easier. That is the primary objective. Cruise lines never spend this kind of money developing something unless they expect a nice return on the investment. Hopefully it will also make your cruise experience more enjoyable to some degree. Time will tell but I think this is here to stay. It's the next evolution of the onboard cruise experience.

I'm ok with it as long as it isn't the only option. The RFID cards used by Disney have a much shorter range, and cannot process video, whereas the Magic Bands have a much longer range, and can process video. I'm guessing the bands are more powerful and complex. I'd think a cruise key card used in lieu of the new MSC technology would likely also have its limitations. sidari Posted March 11, 2017 #846 Share Posted March 11, 2017 SD ... That upgrade has been going on since our first cruise with them in 2012 ! yes it has improved from what it was but they still have you going round in circles which appears to be the Italian way for some reason. Travel websites surely see frequent changes and updates. I first logged on in December 2015, and have seen much improvement since then. It's still a moving target and goes down for maintenance or repair more than I would like to see. If I am on the phone with MSC, I tend to ask a lot of questions so I can understand things easier. I am still in a learning curve. :)
