coasterwiggs Posted July 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 5, 2015 Our choices for traditional dining times on Ruby (7-night Mexican Riviera) are 5:30 and 6:00. What time do the early shows begin? Can we make the early show with a 6:00 dining time? What time do the later shows begin?
cb at sea Posted July 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2015 (edited) The shows for early/main seating will be AFTER dinner... The "early show" is for late dinner seating. Edited July 5, 2015 by cb at sea
shredie Posted July 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 5, 2015 You'll be fine with either time. The show is usually about 8-ish.
DougH Posted July 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2015 Evening shows are usually between 8-8:30pm start or 10-10:30 for late seating. On an odd night they may skip the late show and have one at about 7pm for a pre dinner show for late seating. On this night there is usually the big deck party at about 10pm. Floflegs Posted July 5, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 5, 2015 We always have 6.00 dinner and always make the early show.
fishywood Posted July 5, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 5, 2015 (edited) There will generally always be a showtime geared for those with early seating dinner starting between 8:15-8:45. For those with late dinner some nights the show will be earlier (7:00) some nights later (10:00 or 10:15). And some nights there will be three shows: 6:45/7:00; 8:30, and 10:15. The schedule will almost always be designed for those with early fixed seating, or those who show up to ATD right when it opens (roughly 50% of passengers) to maximize their entertainment choices; the secondary entertainment for the evening usually starts in Explorer's/Vista/on deck right when the main show ends--which is when those of us who prefer late seating dinner are still having dessert and coffee. coasterwiggs Posted July 6, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Thanks for the responses. We will keep the 6:00 dining time and plan on attending the 8:00-ish show. Then we still have entertainment options after that.
Colo Cruiser Posted July 6, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 6, 2015 If you need to catch something earlier you can ask your waiter to speed things up a little.
coasterwiggs Posted July 6, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Colo Cruiser, thanks for the tip. But if it is a choice between skipping dessert or making the show, dessert will win every time, lol.
Colo Cruiser Posted July 6, 2015 #11 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Colo Cruiser, thanks for the tip. But if it is a choice between skipping dessert or making the show, dessert will win every time, lol. That's why I could very easily get dessert first. :D We have also been known to stop back by the dining room for coffee/dessert after the show. ;)
coasterwiggs Posted July 6, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Colo Cruiser, this vital dessert information was unknown to me. This may solve my nightly sadness at having to choose between 2 desserts that I want.

coasterwiggs Posted July 6, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Of the 5 cruise lines we have tried, I think Princess has the best food. I know that is a subjective opinion, but I still remember individual dishes I enjoyed even though our last Princess cruise was in 2011.
Rare Hlitner Posted July 6, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) When they have a pre dinner show (for the late diners) it is usually at 7. If one wants to dine at 6, rush through their dinner (assuming the waiter cooperates) and then get to the show at the last minute (which means you will usually get the worst seats) then go for it! Personally, DW and I love to dine and seldom eat dinner in less then 1 1/2 hours since we usually manage to find fun tables where everyone is having a great time and is not in a hurry. Trying to rush through dinner is a recipe for heartburn :). If one really wants to eat early and also go to the early show then perhaps they would do better to eat the dinner buffet and pretend they are dining in a fast food restaurant. But if it is a choice between skipping dessert or making the show, dessert will win every time, lol. What Colo Cruiser was saying is that your waitstaff can speed up the service if you request. No need to skip dessert.

Hank This really doesn't make sense to me based on the OP's original comments. If there is a show scheduled at 7:00 for the late diners there will be another show around 8:30 for the early diners. There's no need for the OP to rush through dinner in order to make the 7:00 show.
Opua Kiwi Posted July 6, 2015 #19 Share Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) I once witnessed a family of 8 get their desserts "to go" so they could make it to an 8:00 floor show. Sincerely hope that was to drop off in their cabins; and NOT to turn the theatre into a food hall. Edited July 6, 2015 by Opua Kiwi
