Anytime Dining

Always wondered if you requested traditional dining and for whatever reason we're not able to make your standard table, could you go to the anytime dining restaurant instead for one evening?

This will get a lot of people upset. TD diners hogging ATD tables is a very touchy subject around here.

A lot of people are going to say it shouldn't be allowed (to go to AT dining room), but here's another idea. Suppose your TD time is early dinner. You could go to late TD. From what I understand, that is never full. Why not head right to your normal table and your waiters may well have an open spot right in their section to take care of you, or perhaps one nearby.

 

You can also ask your head waiter. I bet you can be accommodated if that idea suits you.

 

Where did you get the idea late seating is empty? Have you actually done it? You can't go to your early seating table during late seating and expect it to be empty. The people who have that table at late seasting will not be happy to see you, and the staff will escort you elsewhere.

 

Of course, if you are really really special, and you don't like the rules, then by all means make things more difficult for everyone else. You are special. :rolleyes:

Oh for pete's sake, relax already. What burr got into your saddle this evening?

 

#1 - I pointed out that the poster was likely to get a negative reaction as a TD person heading to AT from people on this board. Quite accurate stmt as you have aptly demonstrated.

#2 - It is true that late TD is the least popular time on most, if not all, cruises. On every cruise we have booked there are waitlists for everything but late TD.

#3 - I never suggested the poster's exact table spot would be open for late TD.

#4 - I suggested they could go the their AREA and ask their waiters or approach a head waiter.

 

There is nothing special about that. It is simply a solution for someone who could not make their assigned time one night. My experience with Princess is that any reasonable request, they try to meet.

 

IDK why I am even writing this as you are someone who just seems angry tonight (but most of your posts are quite good).

I am sorry but the buffet is for breakfast or lunch. For dinner it is going to the dining room.

If you know the previous evening that you will be unable to make your scheduled traditional dining time, ask your headwaiter if he can arrange for you to eat in anything the next evening.

 

If you get approval, then there is no reason not to go there.

traditional late seating was far from full.

 

There were big sections of the dining room that were not set up,

had no waiters, etc. -- not simply that the passengers didn't show

up, not enough passengers had requested late seating.

 

This should satisfy the people here who complain about the

traditional diners coming to the anytime dining room from

time-to-time.

 

Goad them enough, or ban them from anytime completely

and they won't sign up for traditional at all.

 

This will make anytime more crowded.

 

Interesting, unintended consequence.

Don't assume that a late seating in traditional which has many vacant tables is because those who signed up for that seating went to anytime instead.

 

Sometimes not that many want late traditional.

 

And sometimes more want it that the capacity allows. We were once #214 on the waitlist for late traditional as it neared embarkation day. So on that sailing a whole dining room could have been filled by those on the waitlist assuming two people per waitlist number.

We never make reservations..just show up. Done this for years.

In the morning never know where we're going to eat

or what time.

(Unless it's Crown or Sab's then reserve or sometime just walk up there too)

 

That's why it's called..AnyTime Dining. Like others, like it won't go back to

Traditional.

On our last two cruises, late traditional was already booked up. On one of those cruises we never cleared the waitlist and ended up with Anytime (which we disliked). On the last cruise (which we did book just before final payment), we were offered a choice between early/early traditional and anytime, and we chose the first one. Right after boarding, we went to the dining room with the head waiter taking requests and asked if we could switch to late traditional. We were told they'll try to make the change but for the first night, go to our assigned table. The next morning we received a letter with our new assignment for late traditional.

 

If there's a time that we don't make our assigned seating, we're happy to go to the Horizon. We have never crashed anytime.

You don't have to, but if you have a reservation they always appreciate you letting them know that you won't be there so they can give it to someone else. I wouldn't stand in line to tell them you don't want to go in. I think the reservation thing is kind of an approximation anyway.

If you have a reservation in ATD that you will not use, definitely let them know you will not be there that evening. It will mean someone else will get seated quicker.

 

If you go by to let them know, don't wait at the end of a line. Go the front and you can quickly tell them.

Exactly.... by making reservations I believe they change the original concept of anytime dinning, for me the reason I book anytime dinning is so I can go

But, technically, you can make reservations for any time you want rather than having two times to choose from like traditional.
