StuLaurie Posted July 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Could someone please explain to me how the Cash Account works. I would like to start purchasing Visa Gift Cards each month to help pay for my on board expenses. I figure a little each month will be much better than having the whole amount put on my credit card once I get off the cruise. I will be on the Allure. Do I set up a cash account? Give them my credit card but go to Guest Services and have the Gift Cards added? Any way to use the Gift Cards for the Casino or do I have to bring Cash for that. I don't want to be charged the 5% for the Casino by taking money against my on board account. Thanks in advance.

If you have a cash account, they don't charge you the 5% fee.
cb at sea Posted July 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Don't buy those cards...just put the money in an envelope, or the bank....whatever! Gift cards are silly, and can actually COST you....fees and such. You are allowed to charge up to $500 or so before they ask for a payment....if you have a bunch of cash, put it on your account on boarding day.... Do NOT buy those ridiculous cards! I don't think the cards are ridiculous. I don't like carrying a lot of cash either and would get them if that is what is necessary. I am prebuying obc so I don't have to carry the cash. Maybe you could look into that.

ryano Posted July 24, 2015 #7 Share Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) RC will not accept Visa "gift cards" on board the ship anyway. Just call Gifts and Gear and buy some OBC if you are gonna do anything. I wouldn't mess with the RC gift certificates either Edited July 24, 2015 by ryano

Clarea Posted July 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 24, 2015 I have not cruised on RCI since 2011. Please explain this 5% charged at the casino? You can go to the casino and get cash against your onboard account. If your onboard account is secured by a credit card, they charge you 5% for the cash. Yes, I remember, why they started charging the 5% everyone was going to the casino to get cash and many were getting the points on their RCI credit card. Memories of the way things were.....:) Thanks again..... Edited July 24, 2015 by land lover

On Royal, you need cash to play in the casino. They don't let you play directly from the SeaPass card.

You can remain anonymous. I guess you can accumulate "points" if you insert the SeaPass, but I forget what you get for the points. StuLaurie Posted July 24, 2015 Author #17 Share Posted July 24, 2015 Thanks everyone I am going to look into buying the OBC. Any idea what happens to it if I don't use it all? Will they credit the Credit Card used to buy it or do you loose it?

Will they credit the Credit Card used to buy it or do you loose it? They will credit the CC that you used securing your account. Or you can get a cash refund on the last evening.
