maggie3 Posted July 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Our ship will dock in Ajaccio, Corsica for one day. We are torn between exploring the town of Ajaccio on our own for the day, or taking a tour into the Corsican countryside. Is the countryside not to be missed? Which parts of Corsica would be most beautiful or enjoyable for the day? We will be very grateful for all advice.
bubblesqueaker Posted August 10, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2015 Hey, can't answer the countryside question. We did a day in Corsica in July. The ship docks in the centre and it's a nice place to walk around. There isn't much other than a little market and a street of shops. I was back on the ship in an hour [emoji51] but the place was lovely.
stipmom Posted August 10, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2015 We went to Napoleon 's house and walked around. We were back on the ship for lunch.
aquilegia Posted August 10, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2015 We went on a tour into the countryside to see the Calanches rock formations. It was a nice trip mostly along the coast and made a change from the city.
Apple37 Posted August 10, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2015 We walked to the beach. About a 15 minute stroll from the ship. The sea was glorious.
Mim Lloyd Posted August 11, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 11, 2015 Just a 5 minute walk from the ship is a little open air 'Noddy' road train. It's only 7 Euros for a 45 min trip around town seeing the main sites with a piped commentary. It's well worth it. When you get off it you can then have a stroll around the market. aquilegia Posted December 31, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 31, 2015 Did you book the tour beforehand or just pick up a taxi on the pier? We had a lot of on board credit to use up, so booked a ship's tour, which is something we don't usually do.
keesu89 Posted January 12, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 12, 2016 We were there last September and had a lovely day. We did a hoho bus tour, walked the market, then returned to the ship, got our beach gear and walked back to the nearby beach. It was a great day, very low key and low cost. This was a new port for us, and it was a very pleasant surprise, we loved it.
Wayfairers Posted January 13, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 13, 2016 So there is a beach within walking distance of the port? Awesome.
keesu89 Posted January 14, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 14, 2016 Beach was a ten minute walk for us. It is very easy to find, and there is a sidewalk all the way. There are serveral access points along the beach, but all have relatively steep steps. The beach itself is fairly long and narrow, water was lovely in September, clear and had a long gradual entry. Enjoy.
mandylennon Posted February 19, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 19, 2016 When we were there we walked around the town, the market and walked on past the beach, all very near. In the afternoon we took a countryside tour on the ship tour, sorry nothing spectacular, lots of windy roads with trees either side.
Rare Hlitner Posted February 19, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 19, 2016 We have a few ways to spend a day in this port. Sometimes we use it as just a nice beach day where we can walk from the pier to the local beach and later enjoy a nice lunch at one of the nearby restaurants/cafes. But Corsica is also an interesting hilly island that offers many nice views and natural beauty. One tour (usually offered by cruises) is a long bus ride to the so-called Calanches which is simply an area of fascinating geological rock formations. But the bus ride itself is also a great way to see part of the island and landscape. Hank

midwestchick Posted April 12, 2016 #17 Share Posted April 12, 2016 We'll be there on a Sunday. Are the shops closed? We're also trying to decide what to do in this port.
