sheezsmith Posted August 16, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2015 Yes, if that is what you want to call it, being from New England, I cannot compare what Royal serves as "lobster" to anything we have here!
Ken at the beach Posted August 16, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2015 Is lobster still on the menu? Second formal night as part of the Fisherman's plate. Only served on sailings of 5 days or longer originating from North America.
Bigtex1622 Posted August 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Can you buy them, at a cost in the MDR ? :D
330searay Posted August 17, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Just returned from 5night bermuda cruise last week. NO lobster. Only available on the "pay" menu.
TYSONBOXER Posted August 17, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Was on FOS in Aug and yes on second formal night, but on menu for extra cost every night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
cb at sea Posted August 17, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 17, 2015 5 nights and below don't have the lobster tail.
AustinCruise Posted August 17, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Navigator had lobster tail on 2nd formal night last week. Full lobster was also on the menu at a significant upcharge ($29 I *think*). My 11 yo lobbied for the full lobster, but settled for 3 lobster tails. Ken at the beach Posted August 17, 2015 #10 Share Posted August 17, 2015 Curious as to which answer is correct. :) Well I guess this now varies as someone reported that the 5 night on Liberty to Bermuda didn't have lobster but I have been on a couple of 5 night cruises that it was served. jes Scott Posted August 18, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 18, 2015 2/2015 Indy showed lobster for second formal night. I was dismayed to find out they changed (no notices at all) to the night before when we ate elsewhere.
Rare John&LaLa Posted August 18, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) Yes, if that is what you want to call it, being from New England, I cannot compare what Royal serves as "lobster" to anything we have here! Gee, I never heard that before. I guess it's a trade off. Live in cold water and get good lobster. Visit the Caribbean and get paradise with really big shrimps. ;) Edited August 18, 2015 by John&LaLa

ryano Posted August 18, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 18, 2015 (edited) Gee, I never heard that before. LOL! Invariably, every time lobster is mentioned on this board, there will be one of our Northern friends telling us how RC lobster tails doesnt stack up to their succulent whole Maine lobsters ;) THe only thing left out in this instance was how cheap they can buy it "fresh off the boat" :D Edited August 18, 2015 by ryano
Clarea Posted August 18, 2015 #15 Share Posted August 18, 2015 How about out of San Juan? We've had "free" lobster on Adventure out of San Juan for the last few years.

But that was 4 years ago :o

But this is true. *shrug* I guess people like RCI lobster because they (we) can't afford or get the really good stuff. It's a "treat" for most of us, I suppose, however right or wrong it may be. :D

Off topic, I just noticed you are in Cocoa Beach; spent many a day tanning and playing in the surf there while growing up. My grandparents had a house in Port St. John, which now belongs to my uncle. Lived in Tallahassee for a year while my Dad taught at FSU. Visited my grandparents and Cocoa beach a few times. :)

Rare Terre Posted August 18, 2015 #22 Share Posted August 18, 2015 The lobster ain't what it used to be on any ship or cruise line. They've all gotten smaller and are paired with shrimp these days. I miss those huge lobster tails.
davekathy Posted August 19, 2015 #23 Share Posted August 19, 2015 Living in Utah we think the lobsters served in the MDR on any Cruise ship are good. One is plenty.
