Watches in st.marten and st Thomas

Can you only find the very expensive watches on these islands or can you pick up a decent timex watch.

 

Same with jewelry , are their any reasonable priced costume jewelry or just precious stones?

 

What other items are available besides jewelry.

Not sure about Timex specifically but there is a wide range of watches and jewelry available. Have an idea of how much you want to spend and don't be afraid to walk away if you think the price is too high (sometimes the prices magically drop when you do this:D).

Know your product, style and price point that you can get them online or at home....We have gotten great deals on G-Shock watches for our son....but we knew exactly what we were looking for....easy to bargain for in the caribbean...walk away...you'll then find it elsewhere.

Unless a store has changed its stock, you CANNOT find a Timex watch to save your life.

 

My watch stopped working on a cruise. I SWEAR, I went into every jewelry shop on every island in the Caribbean.............NO Timex.

 

I ended up having to spend more than I wanted on a watch that, in my opinion, is not as good as a Timex.

Seriously, if you want a Timex why not just buy it at home or online? They're cheap enough to begin with, it's not like you'd save a lot buying one on a cruise.;) And at home or online you'd be able to get any one you want, compared to limited selection at an island store.

Not sure if Caribbean prices are any better than what you'd find online but sometimes I'll check the time on a watch purchased in port and the cruise memories linger. :cool:

It depends on what you want. I price checked a Citizen eco drive watch the last time I was in St. Thomas and the best price in the store was the same on ship.

 

It really depends, but good prices on lower end watches ($200 or less) can be found.

 

I've also price checked some mid ranges watches (around $500) and found better prices online in the US.

 

I would prick out a few current models you're interested in and see what they cost before you leave. Then you will know if it's a good price.

I purchased a Citizen eco drive watch in St Maarten. Then I won some money in the casino to cover most of the cost. I was also able to get a little more discount by paying in cash. There are all kinds of high end jewelry stores in both St Thomas and St Maarten.

Snap, but without the casino bit :) The Citizen watch was a bit cheaper than it would have been in Ireland - not sure how that would compare to the US.

Go to Amazon and search Timex. Prices range from $16 and up.

 

Regarding St. Martin, spend your time researching beaches there.

Why would watches be cheaper on the islands? Tax free well so are a lot if sites on the internet as well as states that have no sales tax. The rents on the islands are very expensive . The advertising is a must to survive in the island retail business.

 

Before you buy check internet prices. We used the internet in a St Thomas restaurant to price a watch on line and found it cheaper there then any store or the ship .

I agree that the prices are similar on the ship as well. However, I did not like the selection on the ship. I found one much nicer in my opinion in St Maarten, plus a lot more selection to choose from. My suggestion is to wait before buying on the ship. Check out some stores, get some pricing, and see if you can get a better deal or similar on the ship.

For the most part, I have found that you can find pretty much everything in these stores online for as good a deal, if not better. Between Amazon, newegg, and Overstock, I wouldn't go trying to find a great deal in port or on the ships anymore.

You can get very reasonably priced watches on these islands.

 

Personally, I find that the prices are better at St. Maarten.

Somehow my watch always dies when I am in St. Thomas. ( I am a visitor not a cruiser). I have bought a number of Timex watches at the Kmart for cheap money. They last a few years, are water proof and serviceable. When they break I throw them away.

 

You will not find them at any jewelry stores in town as they sell high end watches.
