MikeyM Posted August 22, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2015 Hello All, Can you still purchase cigarettes onboard? Or should I come loaded up with my own? Thanks in advance!
dplusd Posted August 22, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2015 Those you buy in duty-free will be held and delivered the last night of the cruise. Single packs are available but may be expensive. I would bring onboard with you what you plan to consume on the cruise.
iuki Posted August 22, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 22, 2015 We were recently on the Brilliance of the Seas. Both my daughter and SIL smoke. After my SIL checked in, he realized he left his cigarettes in the car. Security would not allow him to return to the car to retrieve his cigarettes. He was not able to purchase cigarettes on board and had to wait until we got to Key West in order for him to purchase cigarettes.
Brigbound Posted August 22, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 22, 2015 I'm not sure of all ship's SOP but my friend purchased a single pack at the casino bar on Adventure appx. one month ago. I want to say they were about $6.20 per pack.

PeterPan Posted August 22, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2015 We have purchase cigs at general store every cruise for the past 10 years and never had them held until the last night. Most recently in May on Freedom OTS.
cruzinlady1947 Posted August 22, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2015 My husband purchases cigarettes for a friend on board. They never held them until the last night. Although, they do hold the alcohol until the last night. I believe you can only purchase 2 cartons of cigarettes without paying a duty on them. cb at sea Posted August 22, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 22, 2015 You may take cigarettes with you...however, the selection isn't great. Whether they have them by the pack depends on their stock.....you might have to buy a full carton. You are allowed to bring back 200 cigs (1 carton) duty free. gerif Posted August 22, 2015 #10 Share Posted August 22, 2015 I don't smoke but have seen people buy cartons of cigarettes and carry them out of the store with them.
schwpaul Posted August 22, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 22, 2015 My girlfriend smokes and she only takes enough on board to cover her needs until the general store opens. Usually we buy a 5 carton pack, but on our last cruise in May the 4 carton deal had a lower per carton cost. Think under $3 for Marlboro products. You will be able to take your purchase with you. We have also found, that when customs asks, if we answer honestly they don't care that we are leaving the ship with an extra carton per person. RadioRob Posted August 22, 2015 #13 Share Posted August 22, 2015 A friend on my Grandeur cruise last June ran out of cigarettes and was able to buy a pack at the casino bar and at the Cafe Lattitudes. They did not have his normal brand (Newports) so he had to settle for Malborow. It was like 7 per pack there. I did see people buying cartons in the shopping area and carrying them after purchase. Langley Cruisers Posted August 22, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 22, 2015 Security would not allow him to return to the car to retrieve his cigarettes. He was not able to purchase cigarettes on board and had to wait until we got to Key West in order for him to purchase cigarettes. I admit that I am totally confused by this statement. Why would he not be able to purchase cigarettes onboard?
Flamingo33 Posted August 29, 2015 #15 Share Posted August 29, 2015 We have never had a problem with my husband buying a carton day 1 in the gift shop and bringing it back to the room. Has this policy changed since January 2015?
readyk Posted August 29, 2015 #16 Share Posted August 29, 2015 If you are going to caymen island or st martin it's a lot cheaper than the ship.
