We will probably not be doing any excursions on our cruise and we will be stopping at St Thomas and St Maarten, is there a website that we might look up and see what can be done right at the ports. Never have been to these ports and wasn't sure what was at the ports. Is there shopping right at the ports? Thanks for any and all replys;)

St. Thomas: Forty minute walk from port to the shopping area in Charlotte Amalie. You'd probably want to take a taxi.

 

St. Maarten: A 20 minute walk to the Philipsburg shopping area or a short ride on a water taxi. Another shopping option is in Marigot on the French side side of the island, a half-hour taxi ride away.

Decent shopping area right where the non Oasis ships dock in St Thomas. As mentioned above take water taxi into St Maarten

The Oasis docks at Crown Bay in St. Thomas and there is some limited shopping there but it is not as extensive as at the Havensight cruise dock and mall, where most ships dock or in downtown Charlotte Amalie.

The Dr. A. C. Wathey Cruise Facility where the ships dock in St. Maarten also has limited shopping but it's better to go into Philipsburg, either walking or by water or land taxi.

There is a bit of shopping at each of the port terminals on St Thomas and St Maarten.

 

St Thomas has two cruise port areas, Crown Bay and Havensight. There is a fair bit of shopping at the later as well as a cable car to a nice overlook of the bay. Allure and Oasis dock at Crown Bay, if memory serves. I believe other RCL ships dock at Havensight.

 

My recollection is that St Thomas taxi fares between the docks and downtown shopping area are around $3.50-$6.

 

Water taxi is the most convenient way to get from the St Maarten cruise terminal to the downtown shopping area. Not sure what the current cost is. Several years ago an all day wrist band was around $7.

Both St. Thomas and St. Maarten are good for those who enjoy shopping! :)

 

St. Thomas: Since you are on Oasis, you will be docked at Crown Bay. Take a taxi to town (not expensive) and have your fun shopping.

 

St. Maarten: The Water Taxi (not expensive and sort of fun) will get you to town where you can enjoy shopping.

We don't do many excursions there anymore. Unless you are a hard core shopper, it is fun to just shop around at the port at both places and then get back on board and have ship almost to ourselves.

Crown Bay in St Thomas has very few shops -- mostly vendors. You need to take one of one of the Safari taxi's to get into town.

St Maarten -- there are just a few shops where the ships dock. Since I am partially handicapped, I found the water taxi was not for me so we took a small van into town.

Two suggestions: 1. go to your local library and check out some guide books. You can either take notes or if you want, go buy the latest edition of a book you like (Amazon, any local book stores).

 

2. Google each port. There will be tourism websites for each one.
