aberdare_chick Posted October 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 15, 2015 I am going away with other family members who all have different rooms. From time to time we will want to get hold of each other. is there a way we can do this reasonably cheap?
EGG Posted October 15, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 15, 2015 Room to room phone calls are usually free and generally have voice mail. Post it notes on the door. We usually choose a section by the pool, in the theatre in the buffet, so that we can find each other. roger001 Posted October 15, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 15, 2015 Some of the ships have a smart phone app that permits texting between phones while on the ship. I believe it is $7.95 per phone to use it.

DiamondGirl83 Posted October 15, 2015 #6 Share Posted October 15, 2015 From what I can remember the app is free to use although I never used it for messaging
Rare mking8288 Posted October 15, 2015 #7 Share Posted October 15, 2015 Depending on what ship, the iConcierge App (iOS and Androids) is free to download (and, install prior to sailing first - or else ... sideload for those who know how) and use - if system is up & running. Some of the free functionality within the Apps (accounts management) are free to use while others, including the texting among registered devices/users incur a one-time activation charge of $7.95 (most recent pricing, AFAIK) per device. You will be logged into ship's InTRAnet to communicate, using WiFi signal at no additional charge - which most users reported as being usable & reliable. Depending on the smartphone settings & recommended standby setup, batteries can & have been known to run low and not last all day long, especially those oversized phablets with 6"+ screen, even on Airplane mode w. WiFi enabled. Mega-ships are big but they aren't necessary that "huge" for folks to get lost - most friends & families are easily found to be in places like the pool, outdoor decks, buffet, MDR, 24 hour cafe, bars, gift shops, lobby/reception area, casino or main theater, etc. Pre-arrange a daily meeting/catch-up time and location, and leave Voice Mail free using the in-room telephone messaging system (sorry, no "remote" access by codes on those room phones) - supplement them w. sticky notes on the door or slip them underneath. Those staying in full suite, generally have access to one (single) candy-bar Nokia style in-house cordless phone that they can call/page their RS and/or butler/concierge (someone else can comment on it)

cb at sea Posted October 15, 2015 #9 Share Posted October 15, 2015 Room phones are ALWAYS free....leave a message! Or, make tentative plans and share them with the rest of your group, so everyone knows where the others are likely to be! It's not as hard as you might imagine to find each other! jillinmn Posted October 15, 2015 #10 Share Posted October 15, 2015 Walkie Talkies work well.
M0rrie Posted October 15, 2015 #11 Share Posted October 15, 2015 We use Wilkie talkies often on ship.. Hubby can get hold of me to arrange to meet up when I am sunbathing without leaving whatever else he is doing... They also work well off ship (limited range) at GSC
luddite Posted October 15, 2015 #12 Share Posted October 15, 2015 Call'em up on the room phone. Or knock on their door and talk with them. Leave the walkie-talkies at the walkie-talkie store.
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 16, 2015 #13 Share Posted October 16, 2015 You've been given good advice. Use the room phone and post it notes and have agreed times to get together. Keith
